Bucky Covington Smoothes Out Nickelback Hit
Bucky Covington's latest single is actually a cover of Nickelback's "Gotta Be Somebody," but judging by the crowd's reaction in this video for the song, his fans like the idea just fine. I guess it shows how certain songs have a sentiment that crosses musical boundaries, because to me it sounds strikingly similar to the original (which was a top 10 pop hit), just a little smoother. The rasp in his voice is even a lot like Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger's, but Covington takes a bit of the edge off and replaces it with his trademark smile.

I think Bucky does a great job with this song and I actually think he has less of a raspy voice than usual. I think his voice is crystal clear on this and he does the song justice.

Lets face it, a few subtle tweeks in the studio and a Pop Rock song suddenly becomes a Pop Country song. This is no stretch by any means. Cut the drum mix back just a little( and I mean just a little) and Nickleback could easily be another Pop Country act. Hey why not? It seem to be the dump all genre anyway.

I am loving this video and that “trademark” smile!. Your title is very fitting: Bucky smooths out NB hit! His voice translates beautifully for this song. So good to see Bucky on video. It has been way too long without one. Thanks for the post.
