Watch Keith Urban Cab It Out of NYC

Posted: October 22nd, 2009 at 3:47 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Keith UrbanKeith Urban left his Madison Square Garden show in a New York City taxi cab the other night. That was very cool, but all I can think of when I watch this video is, "That poor camera man." Most of the video is shot in the caverns of the Garden after he sang the last bits of "Better Life." Urban is literally running while he hands off his guitar to someone and puts his coat on and then hails himself his own cab. But the whole time, the camera man is running BACKWARDS, so the whole thing has that unintentional shaky camera vibe. (If you get motion sickness easily, this is probably not the video for you.) "The yellow taxi is synonymous with New York City, and I was trying to figure out how I could incorporate it into the show. ... I think I did it ... not to mention that I beat the rush for cabs after the concert let out," Urban said.

That’s amazing. This very well could be the first cameraman who has EVER run backwards! And for you to bring it to our attention is so selfless of you. Alison you really have outdone yourself on this one. This may be your best blog ever

I thought the video was a great exit! One of those~Keith has left the building~ moments (like Elvis used to do). And despite the ribbing you get Alison, I always appreciate your blogs–keep up the great work!

I thought it was a terrific way to leave. What a showman and thoughtful performer. Surprises and the way he treats his fans is almost as important as his unbelievable talent.I can’t wait for next year, although I haven’t heard anything about next years tour just bits and pieces about specific engagements. I have been to lots of concerts and never seen anyone who understood his audience better and was more in the moment with all of us at his shows than Keith is. Too many shows are just pat, no surprises and little real excitement, and there are quite a few out there now who seem to be trying to ape Mr Urban. The problem is he is so natural and they seem forced. There is only one Keith Urban, and everyone else need to find their own path to being really good entertainers. Of course if they don’t have his talent and charisma, they are working uphill!

You couldn’t have said it better Memaw!! He soooo deserves Entertainer of the Year. He is so genuine, generous and humble. He is the real deal! His entire band is awesome!

This is why Keith is the Entertainer of the Year! People ask why I go to so many shows and this is it. You never know if your show one night will be the one when he does something completely off the wall (like my show where he brought out the tennis balls and racquets for the first time).

A true entertainer, and a fantastic performer, EVERY TIME. Whatever entrances/exits Keith wants to do is fine with me. He is truly under-appreciated and under-estimated. I have had the pleasure and honor of meeting him, and he is absolutely one of the most genuine, nice, accomodating, humble people I have ever met. Thank God for Keith Urban! He makes this world a better place for me.

My husband is a news photographer. He has run backwards many times; courthouses, airports, city hall. He has also TRIPPED a few times, so that was a pretty smooth exit. Keith is cool as always……
