Carrie Underwood Greets Wal-Mart Browsers
Carrie Underwood's upcoming album, Play On, is all anyone can talk about these days. There is speculation that the music is very, very good judging from the coverage in USA Today, Billboard and Entertainment Weekly. And this is one good way to hear for yourself what Underwood herself has to say: Wal-Mart's Soundcheck. It's like a mini-concert right there on your computer screen. You can watch her perform "Cowboy Casanova" and older stuff like "So Small," "All American Girl," "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and "Before He Cheats." And while she's not actually performing any unreleased songs yet, the seven-minute interview at least hints at what's to come. "This is my most versatile record to date. I got to spend a lot more time on it. And a lot of really wonderful stuff came out of that process," she said. And as for the title, she explains that it means "whatever's going on in your world, everything will be OK. You have to just play on." And as for the lead single, she describes "Casanova" as a tune that grew out of some dirty, chunky rhythm and a sassy sound.

marti says:
Carrie - the Walmart soundcheck is totally awesome - will certainly buy the new album (can’t wait) - you are a beautiful singer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sami says:
I loved the soundcheck. Can’t wait to buy the album–will probably wear it out in a weeks time. So happy to get new music from her. I saw an interview of Carrie today in Singapore where she is doing a concert Saturday. Was a good interview. NOTHING has been mentioned on CMT or GAC about her doing a concert in Singapore. Wonder Why? If I can find that information–I know that others can also. She is the BEST in country today–or other genres for that matter.
Sami says:
Thanks Alison for the article–very nice!!
Ivan says:
Alison!!! thanks for always updating us with anything Carrie!!! your the best!!

billflow says:
Speechlees … Words cannot exprees talent!!!!!
jmang61 says:
she is fantastic I cannot wait for 19 days I feel this album will a grand slam home run. I have seen her several times live and she does sound better live . Not too many artists can do what Carrie does, a flawless artist all around nobody (artist) can sing as well or better than their cd.
Tek says:
I’m gonna have to pass on the album for now, sorry. I’m not impressed at all with the first single. If I like the second single, I might bu the cd, but the first one just hasn’t quite convinced me.
Lee says:
same here tek i didn’t like the first one at all and the sneak peak that I heard of mamas song didn’t impress me either. She’s already dropped from #9 on hot 100 to #20 in just a few days.. her country spins have dropped to the 190’s.. I hear she’s paying off that girl she supposedly riped the song off of..tryin’ to keep things quiet… I don’t like that, and i don’t suppose others will either when words spread like they do around the music community
marge says:
I really love Cowboy Casanova and Mama’s Song. We gonna hear the 3rd. song from Play On, “Temporary Home” on 20 October, some people that have heard this song said it’s the best song from the album. Definitely I’ll buy Play On, cannot wait until 3rd. November to get the album.
ps60c says:
Cowboy Casanova and Mama’s Song are both great. They’ll both be huge hits. Lee might want to get his or her facts straight. There was no rip off so therefore there’s no payoff. Stop posting trash that you can’t back up. Go Carrie, you’re awesome!!!
greg says:
Lee can you please provide a source of this info? It is a really serious thing to say without providing a source. It can affect her success and that is a low blow. Once again if it is true I will not be in denial and trek i respect your opinion even though i disagree.
greg says:
when i say “this info” i am referring to the paying off the girl.
greg says:
P.S. Carrie I love Mama’s Song!
ally says:
perez admitted recently on et that his associate posting something false and apologized. I will try to find the link.
I am not the biggest fan of CC but Mama’s Song won me over
booyaa says:
Hey Marge!
DO you know what type of song TH? If its a ballad or a midtempo song like Get Out of this Town? i know we will here from it soon but i can hardly wait!
Kate says:
Lee & Tek
are probably the same person…As for LEE: wonder if people who make such slanderous comments can be prosecuted for defamation of character…
I’m sure Carrie has lawyers who are watching out for this type of stuff..
Big Bully says:
This is the beginning of the end for Ms. Underwood.
booyaa says:
thats a little bit harsh big bully.
Please remember Carrie Underwood is a person, just like the rest of us. We all need to treat all artists with respect
Tek says:
How do you come to the conclusion that Lee and myself are the same person? That makes no sense whatsoever. I simply don’t care for her latest single, I like most of her music, just not this one. Am I allowed to share that opinion without receiving false accusations?
Big Bully says:
I disagree booya. I don’t need to treat all artists with respect. Whatever gave you that idea? Greed is an evil thing, and can turn even the nicest person into something very ugly.
SickOf it says:
i wish people can just respect the artists because for every artists there are fans..and fans hate the the haters and by haters i dont mean the people who dont like her music or have their respectable reasons, i mean the “haters” that say rude things and go on with personal attacks or they start silly stupid rumors..”no” fan likes these people because they are immature, ignorant, rude and they are drama queens, who have no sense of respect in their bones whatsoever…i dont mind reading intelligent comments whether your for team carrie or anti carrie just keep it respectable especially if you are claiming “false” accusations..where are your sources??
Robin says:
Carrie’s music is great. “Cowboy Casanova” is awesome, “Mamma’s Song” is awesome. Will buy this album for myself and for others for Christmas.
Great job Carrie!
Artists play for their fans not their haters. I don’t care for some artists and don’t mind discussing that or those artists, but for personal attacks (talking about the liar above), that has nothing to do with “not liking their music”, that’s just being a hater.
jossaline says:
i dont care what anyone thinks of carrie i really dont mind negative remarks because it will never change my mind about her and i think i speak for the majority of her fans..when i say we will never stop loving miss carrie…she is an inspiration to a lot of us her music blesses us and we enjoy her 1000%..not only is she super talented but she is a great role model she reaches out to charities she strongly believes in she is proud of her hometown and has given back to her community..she is a strong, educated, hardworking, respectable and classy young woman values her morals and her family and im very proud of her she makes us women proud because she is representing what women should be like all around the world…”go out and follow your dream even if you think it’s out of your reach”… i love miss carrie and her fans will carry her to very far places in her career we DONT STOP and we WONT STOP!!…love all my carebears everywhere!!…:)
Tenn says:
The Soundcheck is really great - I love the live studio recordings - all the songs were incredible. Carrie just did a concert in Singapore today and there are vids up on youtube - her Asians fans loved her - she’s so amazing live it’s hard to believe sometimes.
TY says:
Tenn–I saw the vids and she is incredible—Amazing how good she sounds singing live. Nothing was nemtioned about her Singapore concert so I doubt if very many know about it. I know she has many Asian fans and they love her as we do. the soundcheck was great also. Can’t wait for her album to get here.
Scott says:
Swilly, it’s a public blog. Anything posted is fair game for a response. If you don’t like it, don’t post.
Robin is right. Country music tells stories. It doesn’t mean that the artist shares the same values being “discussed” in the stories (songs or videos). Why shouldn’t Robin use other artists as examples?
Your response to Robin tells me that you know Robin had a good point and you can’t argue it.
And FYI, Cowboy Casanova is not about prostitution.
Scott
jossaline says:
swilly - she doesnt support vandalism, promiscuity or prostitution…that is NOT carrie, you are confused. it was just a video its called acting carrie doesnt do this in real life..actors/actresses when they get into their character should their “real life” persona be based on the character they played in the movie? thats nonsense ..carrie has said many times that she would never encourage anyone to use violence and the best way to seek revenge is to allow karma to take care of that person also she didnt want to be the one acting out in the video because she didnt want to scare any children..judging someone by a video is obviously not who they are..i think that a video is just a video and you are judging her based on that.. she likes to be sassy and have fun in her videos but you forgot to mention her other videos that are positive uplifting and have a great message such as “jesus take the wheel”, “so small”,”dont forget to remember me”, “just a dream”…why didnt you mention these songs, you should check them out??..she likes to mix it up shes very versatile..and YES i still stick to what i said, carrie is a great ROLE MODEL FOR WOMEN everywhere..she’s hardworking, she’s educated, respectable and classy and she stands up for what she believes in she makes her voice heard,if your going to judge someone you should know your facts and move past the videos, BECAUSE A VIDEO IS JUST A VIDEO IT DOES NOT DEFINE CARRIE!..her character in “real life” is very admirable..and i dont think judging someone’s character on a role they play is who they are…
jossaline says:
just so your in the know “swilly”…cowboy casanova is about a woman who fell for this sexy mysterious goodlooking man who played her with his charm and now she is angry and warning the innocent women out there to becareful for he will break their hearts just like he broke hers!… it’s a good song for woman looking out for each other!!
prostitution really swilly ??? its so not avout that…
lulu33 says:
i like carrie, but her fans are such a turnoff, it’s hard for me to root for her for anything. i think she has an amazing voice, like most of her songs, but i do not like cowboy casanova at all!! hopefully the rest of the album will be better.
TexasVet says:
Yeah Big Bully, this quote from today’s Billboard cover story really makes it sound like it’s the beginning of the end alright! LOL!!
“Though plans are still in the works, Fuller wants to expose Underwood’s music internationally. “We’ve got a shot at actually breaking out of America and having a run at a couple of other countries around the world,” he says, adding that he plans to first focus on Australia, the United Kingdom and Germany. “The world needs to discover Carrie Underwood, so that’s something exciting to come. Carrie always said that she’d love to take country music to the world and that would make her very proud.”
For the immediate future, Underwood is just looking forward to co-hosting the CMA Awards and embarking on her new tour in 2010. “We’ll go into rehearsals early next year, but it’s going to be bigger. It’s going to be awesome. We’re pulling out all the stops,” says Underwood, who was the top-ranked female country touring artist of 2008, according to Billboard Boxscore, grossing $27.1 million from 90 shows.”
quincyeyes says:
lulu,
I’m a Carrie Underwood fan but don’t belong to any fansites and only just joined her board here two weeks ago so I haven’t interacted with other fans. Why are her fans such a turn-off? Why blame Carrie for her fans?
quincyeyes says:
BTW, that’s a serious question b/c I really don’t know what’s wrong with them. On her board here all I see is support for Carrie or different news people have about Carrie.
barb b says:
ty this is for you go to you tube
and type in carrie underwood in
singapore you will enjoy it
quincyeyes says:
I take back my questions. Let’s leave that can of worms closed.
isabella says:
TexasVet - thanks for the info..shes an amazing woman!! that is wonderful news!!..
lulu33- i dont know why were a turn off when we only defend her when she is attacked based on rumors not facts we love her and support her..”were fans”…i didnt know that was a turn off… “oh well who cares”…cant please everyone…and were certainly not trying too…carrie loves her fans and her fans love her…thats why she does what she does and thats why we do what we do!! im not coming down on you i just didnt understand that comment :)
marge says:
Hi booyaa, I think Temporary Home is a ballad song, although I’ve not heard the song myself, but I read the review from some Carrie fans who attended CMT Invitation only last month and review from US Today about TH.
Here’s also the quote from Billboard cover story about this song :
“Several of the songs on “Play On” are standouts: “Temporary Home” is a poignant ballad in which Underwood, a Christian, speaks of her belief that “life on this Earth is just passing through” and heaven is the final destination; and “Mama’s Song” is a loving tribute to her mother. “I really am in a good place in my life and I think that does show,” Underwood says.”
I guess Billboard gonna give a snippet of TH on Sunday and available for itunes on Tues, 20 Oct
Lenny says:
Is it true people are calling her Lady GooGoo?
barb b says:
people say cruel things
do you honestly believe
that garbage carrie is
one beautiful girl what a joke
Haley says:
I heard they are calling her lady googoo, but i dont know what it means. country lady gaga or something? so stupid it’s funny
Heather T says:
I think they call Carrie Lady Googoo because she kinda screams like Lady GaGa. It hurts my ears
marge says:
Just heard the snippet of Temporary Home on Billboard, and it made me tears….another amazing song frm Carrie, I believe it gonna be a gospel song like JTTW, even greater. Love TH so much
barb b says:
i also cried when i heard th it
made me cry now that is what
country music is all about carrie
you rock
makenzie says:
i love the songs how cute her colthes are shes beautiful
