Jewel

I suppose I've always felt connected to Jewel's music because of her ability to say the things I often think but don't know how to verbalize. Not only can she compile these messages into beautiful lyrics, but each word seems to flow effortlessly and aligns perfectly with the next. I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered she's been writing new songs and posted a few on her Web site. "What You Are" describes the inner strength and beauty we all possess if we only knew how to recognize it. She describes a star's ability to shine, a bird's gift of flight and an individual's inner beauty and strength. Another new one, "Where We Started From," describes two lovers putting aside their pride to remember why they love one another. She was inspired to write "Winter of Love" after a walk with her husband and rodeo champion, Ty Murray. After reading the lyrics, the song I look forward to hearing the most is "Love You Forever," about remaining close to those you hold dearest even if they may be far away.

Why isn’t Jewel nominated for best female vocalist?

As good a vocalist as anyone, maybe better. Terrific musician, songwriter and person too. Good to see at work again. I’ll buy anything she does.
