All I Ask for Anymore Is More Trace Adkins Videos Like This
You have to wait three minutes. That's when the people in the new Trace Adkins video start smiling, and I start crying.
I don't know if it's his rich baritone or the lyrics coming to life but almost every video Adkins makes has a way of bringing me to tears. Not just eyes-well-up-with-tears tears. But rolling-down-my-face-gasping-for-breath tears. "All I Ask for Anymore" is no exception.
The suspense the video creates doesn't help. Because for the first few minutes, all you see are anxious people. Women, men, children. All getting out of their cars and heading for a chain link fence. It's not until you see what they see -- soldiers finally coming home from war -- that the song takes on a whole new meaning. The guy in the song is not just some ordinary father bowing his head and thinking selfless thoughts. This is a soldier who is far, far from home who is begging the Lord to watch his wife and kids and to "let 'em outlive me by a hundred years, let their laughter dry up all their tears, let 'em love and be loved back like I have been."
It's human nature to pray for yourself when you're young. Home runs, pickup trucks, good grades, money. And Adkins touches on all that. It's when the realities of the grown-up world sink in that your prayers shift to be less about me, myself and I to being more about the ones you love. Like he sings, what mattered then kept changing every day. And the reveal toward the end of this video makes that point loud and clear. That what matters now, and all we ask for anymore, is for God to watch over everyone else.

Holly says:
I love how Trace got his whole family to be in the video! (smiles)
God bless you and him and all of his family always!!!

MiaT says:
Oh how I LOVE this song/video. It just hits home that that will be me next year looking through a chain link fence at Fort Benning.
Illinois countrygirl says:
I LOVE our soldiers and their families and thank them for the sacrifices they make for us everyday. MiaT, please give your loved one a BIG hug for me and offer my thanks! Hope this video goes #1!!!!!!!
Twangtown7. says:
Good video, especially the ending when you realize why everybody is waiting at the fence.
Courtney says:
Wow, this video is incredible. I have loved this song since the first time I heard it, but I was not expecting this ending. I was blown away when I saw it. Watching the troops come home reminded me of my brother and how lucky I am that he was able to come home. God bless all the men and women out their risking it all for us.
Kate says:
This video literally had me crying at the end. One of my daughters served in the Navy and one in the Air Force and I remember crying when they had to go overseas and cried even more (with gratitude) when they returned. My son-in-law is still active Air Force and will be going overseas again next year. I am so proud of our military personnel. They protect the freedoms that we all take for granted!!!
(oh, and trufan, the video is not boring, it is amazing!!)
Bullride says:
So what’s up with the controversy between Trace Adkins, Bleve records and Ronnie Milsap? Sounds like it’s getting to be a heated topic.
Conyay Vest says:
All Adkins’ ask for is more Badonkadonk! Yo T.A, more T&A.
Kevin says:
Capitol Records should be ashamed of itself for trying to stop radio stations from playing “My First Ride,” the excellent new duet from Trace and Ronnie Milsap. Proceeds from the song go to benefit relief funds for America’s police officers and firefighters. Capitol’s legal actions are ridiculous. I say, “Let Trace Sing!” Everyone, call your local country radio station and request “My First Ride” today!
Uncle Leo says:
It would’ve been better without Adkins. He ruined it.
Stacy says:
I just watched the video for the first time. It means a lot to me because I’ve been there and I’ll probably be there again soon. My husband has been in the military for 16 years. I’m proud to be a military wife and I know when my daughter grows up, she’ll be proud of her daddy.
MilsapFan says:
I salute all those people who serve their country proudly in the military having served in the Navy many years ago. The song “My First Ride” is a great driving song sung by two talented singers. Hopefully the families who desperately need the funds from the proceeds of this song will be able to obtain them. Capitol Records do the right thing and allow country stations around the nation to play the song My First Ride.
LaQuieta says:
capitol needs to back off this song is for a good cause.
Amy says:
This song is definitely a great driving song. I have liked it from the very first time I heard it.
LET Trace and Ronnie’s song play on national radio. My fathers life was saved by a firefighter. I would hate to think that if their family needed help and couldn’t get it.
Mary Ann says:
It amazes me that radio stations are afraid to play the song I suppose for fear that they will suffer some backlash and not be sent any more Capitol recordings ?? - as Ronnie would say, ha, ha, ha! Is this “a-kin” to Payola? If someone could explain to me why radio stations are afraid to play the song because I really do not understand that. Ronnie has an excellent bass singer in his band - I would simply recut the record using him and hit the airwaves with that - it is a good song and people do want to hear it. All that being said, helping our police officers and firefighters should be the concern of ALL of us and not just a select few. Ronnie will find a way to get this great song to the public- I just know it.
