If You Like Taylor Swift, Try Jer Coons

Posted: September 29th, 2009 at 9:41 am  |  By: Craig Shelburne

Here's a nifty, low-budget video from Jer Coons, a young singer-songwriter from Vermont. I like the tune and I have a feeling that Taylor Swift's legion of fans will embrace it, too. Coons says his favorite country artists are Brooks & Dunn, Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift, Chet Atkins and Nickel Creek -- which makes for a fun mix. He's about to launch a tour behind his brand new album, Speak, with many of the shows open to all ages. With a smile like that, I have a feeling he'll be especially popular with the college coeds.

Nothing like trying to use a country superstars name to try and make a name for yourself…She never needed to do that!

WHAT??? Taylor Swift didnt use a country superstars name to make a name for herself???????? You have got to be kidding! Tim McGraw ring a bell? Good grief… that was the name of her first single. You cant use a persons name much more obviously than that!

Yep, Taylor’s management knew exactly how to over expose her right from the beginning. Use a superstar’s name as the first single. Unfortunately, it worked…

I don’t think Jer used anyone’s name here.

Amazing how some people engage their mouth before it is connected to their brains! Jer didnt use taylor swifts name; it was first included by the author of this post, then whoever did the headline trumpeted it!! Im glad they did, Jer is an amazing talent and his album SPEAK is worthy of the promotion!

I watched the video and have to say that Taylor’s fans will probably like him. It’s not my thing though, just like Taylor’s not my thing.

more kiddie-country. They both need to grow up and learn some real life experience and heartbreak, so they can write REAL country songs.

Yep, more kiddie country, don’t care for it.

She wrote a song about Tim Mcgraw, didn’t compare herself to him..there is a difference.

riley - The song Tim McGraw is not about Tim McGraw at all. The song is about a summer romance.
An unmentioned song sung by Tim McGraw is mentioned in the lyrics of Taylor’s version of this song titled “Tim McGraw”. read below (from wiki)

The song tells of Taylor’s remembrance of a summer love, and how an un-named song by country music artist Tim McGraw (identified later on as “Can’t Tell Me Nothin’” from his Live Like You Were Dying album[2]) brings back memories of that love.

And Kevin - What has you so riled (sorry) up? Tim was flattered that Taylor used his name in a song! It has helped him sell more records.
Using someone’s name in a song like this was never done before Taylor did it. Give her credit for her genius. Yes, I said genius, isn’t that what you call artists that sell more than anybody else? Taylor Swift rocks!

i dont like it…sorry jer but im not feeling your music.
i’m not a taylor fan so maybe this is why you are not appealing to me since “if you like taylor swift, try jer coon”..doesnt apply to the non taylor fans. i think he’s okay but he doesnt “wow” me just like taylor doesnt “wow” me…good luck though maybe you can bless others thru music the way taylor does for her fans…taylor is a decent singer just like you but this isnt my cup of tea…and theres nothing special to her just the fact that she writes her own music, plays a guitar, i think thats pretty awesome and i respect her for doing that but her voice is bland….now a days you dont have to be a great singer anymore you just have to be marketed well so if taylor had a shot i dont see why jer doesnt…anyway thats just my opinion best wishes to you!

Liz Rose wrote the song called Tim McGraw, she won a seasac award for it. Rose is where these songs are coming from, not Swift and this little kid in the video above is playing a cheap Taylor guitar.. See how that all fits together? Pay attention to detail.

Taylor Swift is garbage, Jer Coons is gold. Jer plays some countryish crossover stuff, but his live shows are really where it’s at. The energy rocks, and man, can this dude play!

I don’t know I didn’t like the Jer Coons song and after checking out his website, the only thing I can come to a conclusion on is that he is an arrogant asshole. Awesome. That will get you really far, man.

i’ve been a jer coons fan since i first met him years ago in college, and it still surprises me that i could be as big a fan as i am. if you like this you’ll love the album. he is one of those artists you can brag to your friends about that you ‘discovered’ before everyone else because he’s going to be famous soon, there’s no doubt.

After reading Kelsey’s comment the only thing I can come to a conclusion on is that she has no sense of humor.
