Meet Carrie Underwood's "Cowboy Casanova" on Oct. 2

Posted: September 23rd, 2009 at 5:27 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Carrie UnderwoodWe already kind of know who he is. This snake with blue eyes who is kind of like a drug but is really candy-coated misery. He's the one Carrie Underwood's singing about in her latest hit, "Cowboy Casanova." And the video is going to premiere on CMT on Oct. 2.

Since I haven't seen it or even heard much about it, I can only theorize what the video will be like. Since the song has a bit more of a dance club beat than past songs from Underwood, maybe the video will end up looking kind of edgy and sexy. Then again, with the imagery of this Casanova leaning up against the record machine, it very well could have been shot in any one of the honky-tonks around Nashville. Remember Shania Twain's "I Ain't No Quitter"? That was about a similar kind of guy ("He drinks, he smokes, he's a schemer, a dreamer/He calls me up when he's had too much"), and that video turned out very, very country. With cut-offs, cowboy hats, dancing and the whole nine yards.

And while we're at it, let's take some guesses as to who this Casanova might be. It's too late for us to cast the video, but I could see Brad Pitt, Jake Gyllenhaal, Leonardo DiCaprio or Christian Bale playing the bad guy. Guys like Taylor Lautner and Chace Crawford are much too young to be cast in a role where we're supposed to believe he's had a lifetime of breaking hearts. And nice guys like Matt Damon just don't look the part of a good-timin' devil in disguise.

When we finally get to see Underwood's "Cowboy Casanova," then we can all report back here with our feedback.

why don’t they just take it to no 1? don’t fool around with us on this one, we already knew what was going to happen with her first song off of the cd.

Carrie is quite a beauty…but then that’s nothing new. I think this video might hold a lot of surprises. Can’t wait.
This song is burning the charts and sits at #3 on the all genre itunes chart and #1 on the country charts…go Carrie.

There a several other videos debuting that day as well, why not mention all of them?!?!?!?!?!? They all deserve the same amount of attention as this one. Personally, I think the song sounds like a bad Brittney Spears song, another trun off the radio and tv song for me. Lots of bias here is you ask me. I’m surprised that CMT is not doing a 24 hour loop of the video premier this time.

I love this song and can’t wait to see the video. He’s a good time cowboy casanova leaning up against the record machine, he looks like a cool drink of water but he’s candy coated misery…OMG I know this guy! Great song, great lyrics!

    Allison,

This was a great article about the video for Cowboy Casanova. As to the person that said why not discuss all nine videos how about this for an answer. Carrie is the 3 time reigning female vocalist of the year at the ACM and CMA awards, the reigning female vocalist of the year, and has nine straight consecutive #1 songs, and ten million album sales in four years! I think that is kind of a good enough reason for Allison to focus on this video!

Cowboy Casanova is a great song!

The best female vocalist not only in country music but in all genre today! Carrie will go down as one of the all time greats!

This song has an amazing beat and is a great country song. I love the violin, drums, and guitar work in this song!

Doc . . . you are wrong . . . I am in no way a Taylor fan. I turn away from both Swift and Underwood all the time. I will not allow either one of them played in my house, car or office. They are both overrated, self centered divas!

Can’t wait for the Reba and Miranda videos on the same date, I’ll watch any of the others just not CU.

    Hey Alison,

I definately see Matthew Mcconaughey playing the role….. Remember I think Carrie wrote this after the ACM awards after his story regarding the “Cowboy Boots” and saying he would definately say/do anything for a night with a girl….. anyways I just see him playing the role.

my my Marie - the title here says Meet Carrie Underwood - you just couldn’t stay away I guess- maybe the video will be set at a Cowboys football game - no jus kidding - I think it will be city gals being charmed by the cowboy casanova and Carrie tells them like it is - he’s a snake with blue eyes - anyway it will be fun to see what they came up with, looking forward to it

@IMO! Totally agree! Love Carrie, and love all her songs, but just not this one. It’s too… IDK… Can’t wait for it to finish its airplay so we can move on to the next one!

No thank you, the song is 100% pop music.

  • Doc Monroe says:

    Posted: September 24th, 2009 at 10:47 am

you don’t like it bacuare you call it pop? that makes no sense at all since everything on the radio is pop.

    To Marie:
I’ll agree with the Taylor Swift comment, but putting Carrie into the same boat is crazy. How is she self-centered? A small-town farm girl who worked as hard as she did to win American Idol. Now she is involved with countless charities. And how is she even close to being overrated? All ten of her singles from her first 2 CD’s have hit number 1. No other artist in country music has ever done that. Reba McEntire? NO. Miranda Lambert? NO. Kenny Chesney? NO. Tim McGraw? NO. Faith Hill? NO. Shania Twain? NO. Carrie is the only one to ever do that. It’s her time in the spotlight, and she has done more than enough to deserve it. Play On Carrie!

By the way, you did get the part right about her being a diva, though.

I’m sorry, I like Carrie but I just don’t like this song at all. I tried really hard to like it, but I just can’t. The only reason I even gave it a second listen it because it is Carrie and I really wanted to like this song. If it were anyone else, I probably wouldn’t have given it a second listen.

  • Patrick says:

    Posted: September 24th, 2009 at 10:54 am

More defensive Carrie fans. The Carrie fans that can bash other artists all day long, but as soon as someone doesn’t like a song by Carrie, then they jump on the “You must be a Taylor fan!!” comments, and throw out how many awards Carrie has won, like that has anything to do with someone personally liking their song or not. Grow up, Carrie fans.

    marie-

because she has a new album out and a new song that is quickly going to be #1 on the charts and a new video so of course she will be getting a lot of publicity for this carrie is pretty huge in country music so that makes sense, that she is always the focus,so even though others are coming out around the sametime, carrie’s is more anticipated at least by her fans and she has aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllooooooooottttttt of fans!!…i personally dont care about anyone’s album in november but carrie’s so any news about carrie is great news i never get tired…

but not everyone is like me and you may not be a fan of hers which is okay i can respect your preferences as well…but for us we are excited

    Patrick,
We`re very defensive and protective of Carrie. So, it`s our choice. We love her and just can`t help it. She`s just great. Maybe you should join us and start playing on when November comes ; something you should think about.lol. We`re grown up and nice people but nobody mess up with our idol. Join us watching Play ON and Carrie makes history once again. You gotta love her.

Carrie is the best singer ever

marie. she is NOT self centered. She created a charity and gave 117,000 of musical instruments to her high school. She has also taken multiple trips to Africa to help the little kids.
