Kate Gosselin and Taylor Swift Connect on The View
Am I the only one who read between the lines on Tuesday morning's (Sept. 15) broadcast of The View? Kate Gosselin of Jon & Kate Plus 8 was there as a guest co-host. And Taylor Swift was there as a guest. All very well and good. But for me, it went beyond just background noise while I was having my 11th cup of coffee.
These two ladies make me proud to be a woman. Why? Because they have both taken the high road even when the bastards who have done them wrong do not.
Gosselin, who I've already blogged about before for being strong in the face of adversity (that adversity being the infidelity of her soon-to-be ex Jon), asked Swift one of the most important questions on the show: "Where did you find the strength to perform after that?" (She was, of course, referring to Kanye West interrupting Swift's acceptance speech on the MTV Video Music Awards.)
Swift answered that it was knowing people had her back that kept her going. But through it all, she never once criticized West. Then when Swift took the stage to sing her newest single, "Fifteen," I know what Gosselin may have been thinking. That "don't forget to look before you fall" and "wish you could go back and tell yourself what you know now" are two pieces of really good advice for a girl who is 15 or more like, say, any age EVER.
Could the two of them have sat around that little couch commiserating and rambling on about how much men suck? Absolutely. For hours, probably. And they would've been right. But that would've been wrong. So they both took the high road. And, for that, they will be classy ladies forever and always.

Kate has not taken the high road, she says she does but she takes every opportunity she can to slam Jon. She does not fool anyone. Kate is not a classy lady IMO, anyone who earns their paycheck by making their children work to get it is in no way classy. That goes for Jon & Kate but Jon wanted the show to stop. Kate did not. Kate tried to make it sound like Jon is never there, he is from what he says. Why must she always talk the talk but never walk the walk. The show is staged. Kate did Jon wrong for many years before Jon could not take it anymore. Then he left, why because he said KATE was abusive to him. Yes, women can be abusive to men. It was filmed and many saw it on the show. Kate is just mad probably because she can not control him anymore as far as getting the truth out about her. Guess the truth does hurt! Now that is classy. Kate Gosselin is a poor excuse for a mom and a woman, she is not a role model, she is mean and selfish-IMOO.

Great points Tina. I haven’t been following the whole Jon and Kate thing look some people have, but the fact is, this woman continually abused Jon. Now, Jon is definitely acting badly by dating all these women at the same time. So at best, you have two troubled people. But please don’t tell me Kate is the victim in all this. She’s not. She in no way compares to Taylor Swift. A funny thing is, they actually come from the same town in Pennsylvania - Wyomissing.

Thanks Brad, yes I agree both are at fault. I just think it goes both ways, men should not do that to women and women should not do that to men period. I don’t think it should matter if one is fat and one is slim etc., the point is no one should be abused. Any ho, I did not know they was from the same town. Hopefully the children will be ok, that is what matters.

Seeing the band all playing acoustic guitars in an intimate setting, changing the sons a little bit. I put on the external speaker system and it was just like being there.
Taylor’s singing was awesome, so heartfelt. Oh, wait! I get the sense you don’t really appreciate Taylor’s unique style, you were actually being sarcastic. Oh, well, sorry you don’t get it, but like Jamie Johnson just noted, nobody’s forcing you to listen.

As for Jon&Kate&8, I’m not really a reality show fan, but I do know a recent college grad who got a job on it; sometimes she’d be on camera, herding the kids. So I heard a bit about it. The general consensus was that Kate was a little rude in the beginning but jon became the nasty one at the end; the former probably didn’t justify the latter.
Trivia note: Taylor’s childhood Christmas Tree farm in Pennsylvania was only about a 5 or 6 minute drive up and down a mountain to reach the Jon&Kate&8 home in Wernersville.

Where were the kids when Kate was out co-hosting these shows, and making her rounds doing multiple interviews on different shows? She is NOT putting her kids first at all, like any decent parent would do. She needs to end her show and stop trying to be a big celebrity, and stay at home and be with her kids.

If I had known all I had to do to make a living in these rough economic times was to spit out 8 children and get on TV because of it, I’d have signed right on up. Instead I work like a mad woman and am just able to keep my little head above water. whoever called Kate narcissistic was 100% right. I caught that show one night and was addicted to it, and it had absolutely nothing to do with the kids. I couldn’t wait to see how Kate was going to browbeat Jon and wonder to myself “when is he going to ditch that b. If she said those kinds of things to him on TV, what in the world was she saying to him in private. well her gravy train will be coming to a halt. she really SERIOUSLY thinks people watch that show because “they love her kids.” welcome to reality. I ONLY watched to see how bad she would abuse her poor husband on national TV once again. Then she will be stuck with those 8 kids and no husband to help, and she will have no one to blame but herself. She was raised in a trailer park. we have a saying here in the south “you can take the girl out of the trailer park, but you can’t take the trailer park out of the girl.” I can’t wait until her children have to wear clothes that don’t all match and OMG she will have a meltdown. and that wacky hair. her 15 minutes have lasted way too long and when they finally come to an end and that money stops rolling in, she can raise those kids just like she was raised, in a great big double-wide.

Yes, Kate was obnoxiously rude to Jon on national TV, and I’m sure she has many regrets. Yes, she is a control freak (as she admits), but I applaud her organizational skills. Raising her family without scheduling, planning and order would just be chaos. I also applaud her for being a successful business woman — she is articulate and smart and has created a multi-million dollar brand. Yes, she works VERY hard (besides managing her household), she preps for the show, deals with publicists, publicity, speaking engagements, etc. This is not easy — she has a lot of drive. I also applaud her for looking great — women can have a career, look good and be a great Mom. Even Jon says she is a good Mother. Jon always seemed like a loving father to me — but let’s face it, he has acted like a spoiled child. he has blown it, in my opinion and will live to regret his actions. Kudos to Kate — I think she has a future in television or PR and we will continue to see her after this season of J&K.

Swiftfan, Kate did not grow up in a trailer park. Her parents owned a campground near their home. She attended private schools, is college-educated, was an RN — I would not call that trailer trash. Jon is the son of a doctor, but he did not go to College. He’s the one running around spending money like a fool — he will have nothing left soon. Kate is the one who is worrying about the kids financial future. Spit out 8 kids and you will see what it’s like to live and function with no sleep for those early years.
I agree with Alison that both Kate and Taylor are classy women. Though, I don’t think you can compare the way they have been wronged by men. Taylor was a one-time victim of someone she doesn’t even know (very wrong). But, Kate is struggling with a much bigger blow emotionally (to her and her 8 children).

Kate has in no way taken the high road. She’s verbally abused & demeaned her husband on TV for YEARS, and is continuing to do so. Just recently she’s made many derogatory comments about Jon and the divorce in various print articles. (For example, calling him an alien in People). That aside, if you’re really taking the high road, you don’t SAY that you are. If you have to say it, you aren’t. If she was really going to take the high road, she would simply say something like “I’m not going to comment on that” and leave it be.
No way do I want Kate representing me as a woman. If I were a true single mom (divorced/widowed with NO help and the spouse is entirely absent from raising the kids) or if I was a military mom that was really raising the kids without the benefit of a current or former spouse, I would be offended by her assertion that she’s a SINGLE MOM because she’s NOT!
If I were facing REAL adversity - widowed, dealing with life threatening illness, etc. - I would be offended by her assertion that SHE is going through adversity right now. Um yeah Kate - you were horrible to your husband for years and now you’re reaping what you sowed. Even at that you have millions of dollars in the bank, that you earned by sacraficing your own children. You have plenty of people to help you raising the kids. Of course they’re paid help, not family, but then you ran them all off, didn’t you!

Both women are impressive, I am certain that many married women have made snide comments to their significant others, Kate just happened to be filmed when she said them. We are also only privy to what footage is aired. Jon seems to be the kind of person that shows no initiative. He acted like a child and she treated him like one. He is accountable for his behaviour too. If he were so put out by Kate then he should have left sooner. Kate is not gallavanting about with much younger men , buying sports cars and hanging out at parties. She also does not complain about spending 5 days alone with the children as if it were some big feat. I think his actions now say a lot about his true character and she is far better off without him.
