Nobody Doesn't Like Taylor Swift

Posted: September 14th, 2009 at 9:55 am  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

By now, we've all heard plenty about what Kanye West did Sunday night (Sept. 13). But what hasn't really been talked about enough is the audience response to Taylor Swift. It was beyond awesome. After West's little stunt, when Swift was trying gracefully to handle the situation, the crowd at the MTV Video Music Awards gave her a 20-second standing ovation (which looked like it may have started with Swift's fiddle player). It might have gone on even longer had the show not cut to a promotional video. With every clap, that audience seemed to be saying, "You go, girl. We have your back." And when that sweetheart Beyoncé brought Swift back out to the stage at the end of the night to try giving her acceptance speech again, the crowd gave her even more love. And it's important to note that Swift was not in Nashville, not at a country music awards show and not among her Music City peers. From what I could tell, she was one of the only country stars there. So she was out of her element at New York's Radio City Music Hall, and she was still embraced by the entire audience. I think that's very telling.

Out of her element? Swift is a Pop Culture celebrity. This is right where she fits in. “out of her element” would be the AMA Honors and Awards or the IBMA awards.

Taylor handled it great…but Alison Taylor was definitely in her ‘music’ element…this is where she and her music belong.

I agree with you Alison. It was beyond awesome to see the overwhelming support for Taylor last night.

The standing ovation which the entire audience gave Taylor was very moving. With the support given to her by Beyonce and others, I have no doubt that Taylor will leave this situation with happy memories.

Taylor is a lot tougher than she looks, and Kanye’s impulsive actions were not well thought out before he jumped on stage - so let us not over react!

These award shows are not about music.
Otherwise, all the awards would go to jazz, classical, bluegrass, and fusion players. These are the real musicians of the world.
This is a celebrity suck off…and Kanye is a rude little boy.

I thought it was a most awesome gesture on Beyonce’s part to recall how SHE felt when she was younger and receiving her first award. She’s a lady in my book and all I have to say about the other guy - is “Kanye who?”

both taylor and beyonce are class acts. kanye was the jerk, and everybody knows that.

also, i don’t think taylor was ‘out of her element’. she’s one of the biggest female musicians on the circuit right now.

TBh i love taylor swift and i have yet to watch the show (UK) and i used to like Kanye west, but it just shows how deluded he is, last night wasnt a kanye west opinion show it was an awards show for poeple who vote for their favourite, the sooner he wakes up and realizes hes not the centre of the earth the better. Well Done Taylor you really deserved that award the video is brilliant.

I don’t really like Taylor Swift’s music but i can’t condone Kanye West’s rant because of that fact. Kanye was totally out of line and showed that he’s just a miserable little boy who wants everything to go his way. Taylor didn’t deserve the way she was treated by Kanye and it was doubly sad because she’s still a teenager and sweet person overall - everyone can see that. Very humiliating for Taylor but she handled it like an adult.

Taylor was right where she ought to have been: a pop awards show with other pop artists. And no, I don’t like her. Kanye may have been a pig but not everyone has to like this “country” artist.

I don’t understand half of you people.

First off Justin, not all musicians have to have illegal drug addictions to be popular. In fact, thats why I like her in the first place. Taylor writes music simply for the joy of singing/performing and wants to share her music with the world. I, for one, am glad she chose to do that.

We already hate Kanye West, which leads to people to love to hate him.

Major props to Beyonce for letting Taylor get her moment. I amy not like her music, but what she did was classy.

@ Rich…Kanye West sooooooo loves fishsticks!

I’m no Swift fan, but she earned her moment. Swift’s video is better than Beyonce’s…there’s a concept, costume changes, co-star, etc.–the song is better, too! Bey’s just dancing in a black leotard in front of a white screen.

Plently of props to Beyonce for giving Swift her due shine. I’m not a Swift fan, but now I’m definitely a supporter because she reamined so composed and classy.

From last week’s outburst in the Congress to this award show outburst…people, let’s get back to a society of Morals & RESPECT. Whatever your opinion is and we all have a RIGHT to our opiion…let’s remember R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Cudos to Beyonce…her Mama raised her well. I hope Kanye can redeem himself and make this a teaching moment…But for now he needs to go get get a big, fat Time out!

Like Taylor? Like Beyonce? Like Kanye? It doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. Kanye was out of his element with all those classy people there. Beyonce showed just how classy she can be. And the audience out classed everyone by making Taylor welcome when she returned to the stage.

I am not a big fan of Taylor’s music, however everyone is entitled to basic human respect. I even believe that Kanye West is entitled to basic respect for the body of work he has produced, even though I do not listen to that particular genre. We are slowly losing respect for others and with that we also lose self respect and credibility. Bravo to Beyonce for acknowledging Taylor’s “Moment”.

I pray Kanye is able to find out why he he is such an angry person and get on the road to recovery before he ends up another hip hop statistic. Not too many people are feeling the love for him today!

He doesn’t deserve an award at all! And sure, Beyonce is a great singer, and a great video artist, but Taylor won the award, and she earned it, and obviously Kanye will NEVER understand that.

And I second everything Squirmey said when (s)he said that Taylor isn’t country and that it’s not fair to others who are.

So having said that, even though I’m no fan of Taylor’s, at the same time, I believe what Kanye did to her at the VMAs last night was way out of line and totally uncalled for!!! I’ve never particularly cared for Kanye anyways, so you won’t see me buying his music anytime soon, either!!!

I cannot believe Kanye would even try something like that. If the only thing he is capable of is trying to steal the spotlight from a 19 year old girl, that says something about him. Beyonce was cool about the whole thing and letting Taylor go out and have her chance was HUGE! Taylor is the classiest and she handled it wonderfully. She deserves to be there at the VMAs for sure. She is one of the rare few that her music can reaches all area and genres of music. She is so talented and beautiful. This girl was meant for stardom. Kanye was so rude and ignorant with his actions and everyone has made it clear that nobody agreed with what he did. Keep it to yourself next time, poser.

Have any of you listened to “country music” lately? It doesn’t have to be the twangy old steel guitar stuff you’re thinking of. It’s not just about the sound of the music but also the soul of it. Any true country music fan knows that the roots and the soul are what matters and the majority of country doesn’t sound like it used to. The most rockin’ shows I’ve seen are “country”.

Taylor Swift is a great performer. She writes her songs from her heart and she exhibited an enormous amount of class in the way she handled Kanye’s retarded outburst. Beyonce was also wonderful by allowing Taylor that moment and Taylor DID thank her both then and also talked about what a wonderful person she was in an interview afterward.

It doesn’t matter WHAT they sing, it’s THAT they sing and without it, it would be a sad world.

Very nice observations, Alison, although maybe you should have called your piece, “Nobody Doesn’t Like Taylor Swift, Except Kanye West and the Usual Suspects on CMT Blogs”.

Taylor wasn’t hurt by this show at all. Already the biggest crossover artist since Shania and Garth, her popularity is bound to climb even higher. Beyonce’s as well. Wouldn’t want to be Kanye’s PR guy today though.

Let’s review. In her pre-show comments, Taylor says she has “no chance” of winning, because she’s a “country singer” and the competition is very strong. Typically, for Taylor … she wins! MTV Female Video of the Year. Ought to worth a sale or two.

Then Kanye gives her the sympathy vote. Alison’s right about what happened last night, and that outpouring of support for TS continued into today, with millions of tweets and posts, almost universally supporting Taylor and vilifying Kanje. Taylor’s image? She is the 19 year-old country princess who handled unexpected mortification with real grace and maturity. Bet Faith Hill is proud of her!

Next she shakes off a humiliation (that reportedly had her in tears) to give an,exciting, high-energy performance, while running through NYC subways and standing on the roof of Taxis — as opposed to booty-shaking, disemboweling, or dangling on a high wire while wearing pasties (the trapeze act WAS cool though!). Mothers vote now: Who was the preferred role model for your daughter last night?

She also receives fashion raves for a red carpet ensemble — some bloggers called it the night’s best — that emphasized class and style over bareness.

Then comes the warmest moment of the night, even eclipsing Madonna’s MJ tribute, as Taylor and Beyonce, two outstanding but very different artists, bond like sisters.

Yep, I think”Fearless” might have had a chance to go back up to #1 on the Billboard 200 except for the concurrent announcement that a deluxe version is coming out in Taylor n October.

Oh, and in her interrupted acceptance speech, Taylor once again proudly refers to herself as a “Country” singer. (Take that Redmaz!)

Kanye, expressed the M.O. of most rap entertainers. A foolish jerk who needs his butt kicked and is not representing the music industry at all. I am not a huge fan of Ms. Swift but i do admire he not acting out in a rude manner like Kanye. Kanye, will never amount to much in records sells compared to Beyonce, Pink or Taylor Swift. He caters to that weird thug like attitude. Ice-T has more class than Kanye and so does other artist in that genre. He has that mad at the world vision because very few people take him and the likes of Jamie Foxx seriously! Kanye, couldn’t even be as great as Nelly even, let alone sale as many records at pace with coutry stars like Tim McGraw. He could never sell out a huge arena in 1 hour like Garth Brooks, George Strait and Kenny Chesney!! Enough with this didi about a loser named Kanye and that is probably not even his real name.

I have two points: You can’t call Kanye an N in one sentence and praise Beyonce in the next. If you’re going to make racist comments, you might as well be completely racist and in case you hadn’t realize it yet BEYONCE IS BLACK. Please don’t use one bad incident as a reason to generalize about all black people. Second, please don’t make generalizations about people in the hip-hop/r&b genre. There are some kind, intelligent, and talented artists in all generes. If you don’t want people to say that country singers and people who listen to country music are ignorant, backwoods, klan members who sleep with their sisters then don’t make nasty comments about others. Thanks! :-)

  • Jeff says:

you guys are all correct - Kanya has a right to his opinion and should have voted like the rest of us if he wanted to air it - Not to barge up on stage and be a complete jerk! I am not a Taylor Swift fan, but I became a huge Beyonce fan last night with her class. I will never listen or buy anything that K. West is associated with.

Some of you people crack me up. Were you there? Did you see every single moment. I doubt it! How do you know Taylor didn’t thank Beyonce for sharing the stage. Maybe you didn’t see it on camera but you don’t know what happened later. I don’t care who you are or what your take is on who won. Being disrepectful to anyone at any time is not right. Everyone deserves respect you would only want the same if you were up there. So stop being haters and admit he was wrong and even if you don’t like her, her music or what ever show some respect. You don’t have to like the outcome you just have to show some respect.

  • Redmaz says:

    Posted: September 14th, 2009 at 9:50 pm

..”Take that Redmaz”? What’s that supposed to mean? I’ve always accepted her as a “country” singer. She happens to be a Pop Country singer. She represents what Pop Country has become. However, she’s never been recognized in Americana/Roots Country. I’ve heard she’s considering an Alt.Country project. I for one believe in basic music fundamentals and genre description. My opinion is much different than the facts though…

To Jeff, to say you will never listen or buy anything that K. West is associated with. That now includes Swift and Beyonce. The new generation of Country Music is called Americana/Red Dirt, and to the person who thinks Pop Country started with Shania Twain helping out this generation…you might want to take some music history lessons….,

  • drdjwu says:

    Posted: September 14th, 2009 at 9:59 pm

Taylor certainly did express her appreciation to Beyonce… with hugs, and with post show comments (some of which is being shown by CMT right now on their video coverage of last night.) She was quoted, in the press room after the show, as saying: “I didn’t think I could love Beyonce any more than I already did. Then tonight happened.”

Given the time constraints … and the fact that she hadn’t had time to say her thank you’s earlier … and the fact that everyone had enough psychodrama for one night …I think that was an appropriate time, place and way to thank her.

One last thing. Here’s a shout out to “Tjanee” and “ImTheBiggestFanEver4MissCarrieUnderwood”. It’s always nice to find people –on these often-polarized TS blogs —
who are voices of reason, rationality and fairness, whether they are TS fans or not.

Redmaz, I was just having a little fun, I respect your musical knowledge and tastes. I do admit I read your opening comment too quickly and misread “AMA” as “AMC” and got the sense you were consigning her to the VMA’s.

Personally,I don’t believe the VMA is really her element; and if that were true, then about 50-to-70% of Nashville should have to go with her.

I think some of ya’ll are ridiculous, everyone has their opinions. This isn’t a matter of whether she’s country or not, or even what country is or isn’t anymore. The fact is time changes and the music changes with it. Either you like a genre or you don’t, you like a singer or you don’t. Who cares? Why is it so important that people must argue about it?

As to Taylor Swift, she handled this situation very maturely in my opinion, not on stage but in the interview afterward. Obviously on stage she was stunned, I think most people would be. But in the interviews afterward when asked about her opinion of Kanye West she made it clear she wasn’t going to speak ill of him or the situation. She focused on the positive. Maybe some of ya’ll on here should take note.

As to Beyonce what she did was a very Generous and Classy thing to do, and I for one have to say “Well Done!”.

Obviously Kanye West did a very rude thing and as one celeb put it “it’s like stepping on a kitten” very immature and not thought out. But how many others have done this and then gotten extra attention because they did something that people noticed. This is not the type of person we want as a role model for our kids, and I personally hope that people take a look at this and think twice before letting their kids listen/watch just anything.

I agree with “drdjwu” on just about everything that he said. My 15 year old daughter used to drive me nuts listening to someone called “Taylor Swift” on a cd in my car on the way to school. Then I happened to see Taylor Swift on a couple of award shows, etc. and realized what a descent, beautiful person she was, inside and out. I don’t complain anymore at all about Taylor being a role model for my teen. Beyonce’ showed real class and is also a nice person but even my teen said that the clothing and dancing was that of a role model. Other than that, she seems like a good person and it brought tears and chills to see her compassion for Taylor. As for Kanye, never heard of him before and will be glad if I never hear of him again!

What Kanye did was wrong but this was not the first time he has interrupted an awards ceremony. He is very disrespectful to people. If you watch footage from last night’s red carpet, he was drinking. Not a good thing to let them carry a bottle of liquor down the red carpet. I do not like Taylor Swift’s music but she or anyone did not deserve what he did but as the saying goes..there is no bad publicity. This should be put to rest. I don’t think Taylor will have any lasting scars from it.

Here’s an excerpt from the o/c (we’ve heard the rest of the story so this is just the tag on the end):

Taylor’s fellow country stars rallied in support. Blake Shelton tweeted, “Sorry y’all but we’re just a little bit protective of Taylor Swift around here!! Hey Kanye .. By around here, I mean the world!! Moron ?”

Love and Theft tweeted, “Kanye when’re you gonna figure out you’re NOT the “voice of our generation?” No one thinks you’re as awesome as you’re convinced you are.”

Gloriana tweeted, “congratulations sweetheart! Keep ur head up. We love u!”

Two Foot Fred posted one of the funniest tweets: “When I run into Kanye West at the next awards show we are both at, I am gonna run over his [A word] with my scooter ?

You would think this guy would learn the lesson of “There is a time & and a place”. If I recall correctly, he made a public spectacle of his opinion after hurricane Katrina when a live show was being aired to raise money for victims. Instead of following the script that was given to him he shot his mouth off publicly and on a live show that couldn’t allow for his personal speech to be cut by the shows exec’s. The really sad part of it all is that this man is allowed to continue to be part of productions where actual artists are asked to contribute and be honored by fans.
I respect Taylor for staying so collected and Beyonce just gained another fan for her graciousness in getting Taylor back on stage so she could make her acceptance speech like she should have been able to in the first place.

If you dont like her, quit reading posts with her name all over it.

The young generation runs the music scene now, face it, 13-19 year olds ultimately decide the next American Idol…they’re the biggest viewing age.
The young generation downloads music from the internet and buys most of the albums. The music industry is no longer about ART, its about MONEY.

Fine, let the pop music get all the glory and recognition, hate to say it, without the “pop/country” artists, country music has no remaining top 20 talent and will once again, head to the rear of the charts. Taylor, Carrie, Rascal Flatts, Kenny, Keith, and Brad reinvented country in the past 4 years and country is now in the top 3 most downloaded genres on the internet.

No, Taylorwho?, it’s called admiration for the talents of a classy 19-year-old phenomenon who became the FIRST Country singer EVER, male or female, to win a VMA! Her poise and character as a role model sure don’t hurt, but Kanye’s rudeness came AFTER she won the award, not before.

  • drdjwu says:

The cynical mind will look at anything and find secret motives and dark plots, but it’s a mystery to me how you can try to spin this as something contrived by Taylor and Dad. IT was NEWS the moment Kanye pulled his ridiculous stunt — check the 10,00 stories on the internet — but to imply that Taylor’s Dad is behind all those stories is so absurd! I repeat –she won fans because of how she handled it AND because she is the first Country in HISTORY to win a VMA!

  • Taylorwho? says:

    Posted: September 17th, 2009 at 4:41 pm

True, committed, dedicated country artist shouldn’t EVER win a VMA. If she wants to rub elbows with the likes of Kanye, she’ll get what she deserves. A country artist would never treat her like that.

  • drdjwu says:

    Posted: September 17th, 2009 at 5:12 pm

“Taylorwho?”, if you scroll back up to my Sept.14th, 7:54pm comment, you will see I stated Taylor would benefit from this awkward moment, even before you did, and I gave reasons why.

What I object to in your statement is the description that Taylor and her dad are going to “milk this sympathy for all its worth”. That is simply cynical, and (typically for your comments on Taylor) attempts to smear a pejorative connotation on a situation for which Taylor deserves nothing but positives.

How are they going to “milk it?” Is Taylor going to cry a lot? (Didn’t look like it on “The View” where she refused to dis Kanye, nor in her statement a short time later when she accepted his apology.)

Yes, there have been been CMT blogs galore. Story took off like wildfire from sea to shining sea, every major newspaper carried multiple accounts and editorials. Are you implying the Swift’s had something to do with that?

And do you actually think “sympathy” leads to album sales? DO you? Really??? Me, I’m pretty sure it’s because people like your music, or think you’re cool. Admiration.

Despite her status as the top-selling artist of recent years, Taylor played to an audience that wasn’t familiar with her, one that doesn’t normally listen to Country Music. Those people saw a Country Star win at the VMA for the first time EVER, THEN become a wild blond blur of energy in a red dress dancing on a taxi cab. Just guessing, but I think a good number of new Taylor fans were born.

Taylor won the award BEFORE (not because of) Kanye’s tantrum, and the way she comported herself just made her even more likable as a person and role model. Do you think if Taylor had screamed racial epithets, drop-kicked Kanje, then rolled around the floor crying hysterically for 10 minutes, and cried right through her performance, she would have been viewed as positively?

You say she will benefit from “sympathy”. I say she will benefit from “admiration” for her “talent” (the award and her performance) and her “class, poise and character”.

  • drdjwu says:

    Posted: September 17th, 2009 at 5:50 pm

I agree, Taylorwho?, Country artists wouldn’t treat Taylor like Kanye did. Most have a lot of respect for her. There are unfortunately a small handful of Country “fans” who might make her want to “rub elbows with Kanye”.

And Taylor is 19. Why shouldn’t she be attracted to the music of her generation as well as Country? That’s how music progresses, different influences being melded by influential artists like Taylor. Ever hear of Rockabilly and the Blues and a guy named Elvis and Rock n’ Roll? Frankly, I think MOST Country artists have little problem having crossover appeal for what they do. Hank and Johnny didn’t, neither do Reba and Loretta and Tim and George.

  • Taylorwho? says:

    Posted: September 17th, 2009 at 6:45 pm

drd, she doesn’t appear to know what she wants to do. Act? Write? Sing? (oh please NO), Rock? Pop? Direct? Produce? You know, a jack of all trades is a master or none.

  • drdjwu says:

    Posted: September 17th, 2009 at 10:42 pm

TaylorWho? Are you getting a little desperate to find something to criticize? Master of none??? What has she failed at?

Writing? That’s what she is first and foremost, a songwriting prodigy. All those great songs and chart-topping hits she wrote at the age of 13 trough 18 for her FIRST TWO albums!! Who has a better track record? The Beatles? Not after the first 2 albums they didn’t!

Singing? Sure sells A LOT of albums, gets A LOT of rave performance reviews, wins A LOT of female vocalist awards. Maybe you don’t like her voice, too bad. You can decide you don’t like her singing, but the numbers are waaay in her favor. She sure hasn’t FAILED at it in any way that would matter to a record company or her fans!

Producer? Yep, got an award for that, too, for co-producing FEARLESS.

Acting? Her comic talents were on display in the opening for the CMA show, and her video for “You Belong to Me” showed a real talent for romantic comedy.

She also designs and orchestrates a mean concert tour. She could give a lecture on building an internet following.

Rock, Pop, Country… who cares as long as its Taylor music? Maybe she’ll merge all 3, throw in a little emo, maybe turn the country and pop music scene upside down she has SO MANY DREAMS … and they keep coming true! And she’s only 19!

Try Taylor of all Trades and master of them all! (Did I mention she’s a great role model and person, too?) The more you criticize, the better Taylor gets.

  • Taylorwho? says:

  • drdjwu says:

    Posted: September 18th, 2009 at 10:47 am

Please check your facts. Taylor won the ACM Top New Female VOCALIST Award in 2007, the same year she won the CMA Horizon Award. In 2008, she won the Teen Choice Award for favorite Female Recording Artist.

In between, she has been one of the select few nominated for CMA’s Female Vocalist in both 2008 and 2009. Even being one of the final few nominated would be pretty surprising for someone who “can’t sing”, doncha think?

Then we have all those album and song of the year awards which, gee, have her SINGING on them. (OH,I know, I know, they sneak in other people to sing sing her songs for her, or auto-tune her, blah-bah-blah, and you KNOW because you were hiding in the room or something. PLEASE! MAKE UP SOMETHING NEW!)

  • drdjwu says:

    Posted: September 18th, 2009 at 10:54 am

And Taylor started off with LESS marketing than most new artists have.

Swift is no Disney product, had no American Idol buzz, had no major label pushing her. Since she’s become so popular, a snowball effect has come into play that makes marketing easy — everybody wants to hear and talk Taylor — EVEN YOU apparently, haha!

Hey, if marketing is all it takes and is so easy, why don’t you go be a superstar too?? Do it, do it!!

  • Taylorwho? says:

    Posted: September 18th, 2009 at 6:34 pm

The ACM is for NEW vocalist. No competition. Horizon is new ARTIST, teen choice is fan voted FAVORITE, not BEST. Have you ever heard about politics? Apparently not.

  • drdjwu says:

    Posted: September 19th, 2009 at 1:01 am

Now you are just hiding behind semantics. Are you saying that a “New” Vocalist award is not a vocalist award?? I believe your last post said she won “no vocalist awards”.

And what does “no competition” mean? Are you saying there were no other new female country vocalists in 2007? Sorry, nice try, but you simply made an incorrect statement. Are you incapable of admitting that?

And HORIZON is best new RECORDING ARTIST — same thing as “singer” in my book! Teen choice FAVORITE recording artist is the same thing as the BEST one, and the one they are going to BUY!

So you’re going to blame politics now? Tell us more. What politicians are pulling strings for Taylor? These conspiracy theories are always so much fun.

  • Shirley Mason says:

    Posted: September 19th, 2009 at 6:58 am

The ACM is for NEW ARTIST. The Horizon is for NEW ARTIST and a teenager’s choice means nothing. You’re reaching. She has won ZERO vocal awards. Taylorwho is correct. Taylor has absolutely no awards by the industry for her voice, and chances are very slim that she ever will. She’s a horrible singer, and I think everyone who is not a fan knows that. That’s why her non-fans are so vocal. It’s not that they hate her, but they are not fans because she does not deserve her spot in the limelight. Personally I like a lot of different singers, and can tell you who is better than whom. Taylor is not even on the list of good singers

  • drdjwu says:

    Posted: September 19th, 2009 at 11:56 am

The specific title of the ACM award was then and still is:
    “TOP NEW FEMALE VOCALIST
In 2007, it went to Taylor.

Go onto the ACM website, click on awards, click on nominees, scroll down. Then come back and admit you made a mistake.

Taylor HAS won vocalist awards, and she has also been among the select few nominated for best vocalist every year since 2007. Google Taylor’s name,go to Wikipedia, click on awards, you’ll see them.

Try as you may, you’re NOT going to convince people with semantics. There is virtually no difference between “Recording Artist” and “Singer” in the lingo of the music business. Go call up a recording studio, tell them you have someone who can’t sing but they’d like to be a recording artist; see what happens next.

As for your rude remarks about teenagers, teenagers popularized the Beatles, Elvis Presley, I think you disrespect their taste unfairly. As for your rude remark about Taylor’s fan, she has GREAT fans — and A LOT OF THEM!! They don’t really care what you think.

  • drdjw says:

    Posted: September 19th, 2009 at 4:22 pm

Oh, yes, almost forgot, thanks for the condescending offer to tell me which singers are “better”, but it really isn’t needed. I actually have A LOT of professional experience in that area.

I’m particularly good at spotting unknown up-and-comers who will be huge — proud to say I called that for Taylor within weeks of her debut album being released. To have that knack, you usually have to be able to recognize the special genius of people who break the mold a little bit. That’s your real problem with Taylor — she doesn’t fit into your little predetermined ideas of what a”good singer” should be, so you dis and dismiss her.

You know, that’s the same thing that giant record label tried to do. Trouble is, Taylor isn’t going anywhere.

But don’t worry, Simon Cowell has the same problem — the two of you would have passed on John Lennon and Bob Dylan.

Enjoy your list of singers though!
