Kanye West Unlikely to Discuss Taylor Swift Incident With Jay Leno
Although he's already demonstrated that anything can happen, Kanye West is not expected to be interviewed during Monday night's (Sept. 14) premiere of NBC's The Jay Leno Show. That's probably the smartest decision he's made during the past 24 hours. West and Rihanna are performing on the show with Jay-Z, who happens to be the husband of Beyoncé. West, of course, proclaimed Beyoncé's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" as "one of the best videos of all time" when he grabbed the microphone from Taylor Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards. At the time, Swift was accepting the award for best female video -- a category that didn't even include Beyoncé.
It's not as though West has never acted like a jerk or made moronic comments. Two years ago, MTV.com had already collected enough examples to write a story with this headline: "Heard Him Say! A Timeline of Kanye West's Public Outbursts." Among them was his tantrum at the American Music Awards in 2004 when Gretchen Wilson defeated him in the best new artist category. After the show, he told reporters, "I felt like I was definitely robbed. ... I was the best new artist this year." Yet we were still somehow shocked at the extent of his ego and insensitivity when he stole the spotlight from Swift at the VMAs. His egotism immediately reminded me of the "Fishsticks" episode on Comedy Central's South Park. In it, Cartman and Jimmy write what is proclaimed as "the funniest joke ever" -- a stupid and simplistic joke West can't comprehend. As always with South Park, the episode includes freewheeling content and is sure to offend some people, so be forewarned. But its portrayal of Kanye West is absolutely hilarious.

hotelmotel says:
Kanye’s antics were obnoxious but I do agree with the substance behind them.
Joe says:
Taylor is very talented and a great songwriter for her age and I wish her the success she deserves.
Kayne should of complained after the awards show
sierrafina says:
Know you facts before you do an article. Beyonce’s was also nominated in that female category, you are wrong.
Calvin Gilbert says:
Sierrafina — Not according to MTV’s site –

Alison W says:
SIngle Ladies WAS nominated, I was watching it live. It was Beyonce, Pink, Katy Petty, Lady Gaga, and Taylor in the category. That’s the whole point behind why he stormed up there, he thought Beyonce should have won the award.
Alison W says:
.. and Kelly Clarkson
Alison W says:
So hotelmotel what exactly do you agree with?
Twangtown7. says:
Taylor should just stay on MTV…lame.
Redmaz says:
How would you compare (Put A Ring on it) to “Wear My Ring” by the “Bart Crow Band”?
illowa says:
Kanye West is an idiot who thinks he’s the greatest. I think he’s a legend in his own mind.
katlyn says:
ok first of all the dude Kanye West is a D.A.
he was cool untill he spoke his mind, i know thats a freedom but with those freedoms you need to have respect
to follow that! and man did he screw up! i so agree with Illowa! he needs to learn his place and sit his but down like everyone elese. Kanye West is a nobody that thanks he’s a somebody!
Robin says:
You’ll notice Kanye didn’t interrupt Gretchen on stage. He would have feared for his life. He waited until afterward to complain. Instead he picked on an excited young girl and stole her moment from her. He’s more than an idiot. He’s a bully and this should be the end of allowing him to be at any award shows. He shouldn’t be nominated. Heck, he shouldn’t even get his videos played on MTV.
Marcus says:
Turns out Kanye talked with Jay before the performance after all…I’m not sure what to make of what he said. I would have been able to take his apology more seriously if this was his only public outburst. But, he has had multiple outbursts at awards shows before, apologized, then did it again. I doubt last night was the last night he pulls a stupid move like that.
Calvin Gilbert says:
I stand corrected about the nominations in the female video category. Beyonce was indeed nominated, but she was somehow omitted from the list of nominees on MTV’s Web site. Or at least the page I used as a reference. (http://www.mtv.com/ontv/vma/2009/best-female-video/) When CMT.com reported Swift’s nomination in August, we included a mention of Beyonce in that category.
missy says:
Chastity, you really shouldn’t air your family secrets here.
Go Taylor!!!!!!!
tim2 says:
Doesn’t Kanye get tired of embarassing himself?
Isn’t this twice in two years?
JPC says:
Everyone has a right to their opinion. I’m sure there are many people who didn’t agree with some of the awards handed out. However most people have basic manners and were taught not to act that way. There is no excuse for that behavior and he should not be invited to anymore awards shows.
jennifer whitehall says:
kanyes antics is alittle abnoxious but ido agree with the sustance behind them.
Redmaz says:
Beyonce? Bart Crow?
ITWASSTAGED says:
This was the best thing that ever happened to Tater. Look at the publicity and sympathy she go.
Redmaz says:
What does Little Jimmy Dickens have to do with this?
Beyonce? Bart Crow?….can anyone answer?
timcun says:
What Kanye did to Taylor was wrong and he was a complete jerk for doing it. But, he apologized and Taylor accepted his apology so can we please get the story off the front page of CMT and get on to other stories and artists. There has to be something going on in the world other than Taylor and Kanye.
