Kanye West Steals Taylor Swift's Thunder at MTV Video Music Awards
Seriously, Kanye? You can't just stay in your seat and let Taylor Swift have her turn in the spotlight? I agree with you that Beyonce's video was very good. Phenomenal. So was Katy Perry's, Kelly Clarkson's, Lady GaGa's and Pink's. But they seemed to accept their loss with dignity and humility. In fact, so did Beyonce. But you had to jump up onstage right in the middle of Swift's acceptance speech after her "You Belong With Me" won the prize for best female video at Sunday night's (Sept. 13) MTV Video Music Awards and say, "Yo, Taylor. I'm happy for ya. I'm gonna let you finish. But Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time." She may only be 19, but Swift had the maturity to do the right thing: let you speak your mind, keep her head down and smile. She's crazy classy, Kanye. Learn from her.

I don’t know, I would have definitely given him at least a tiny piece of my mind if I were her. The thing that almost bothers me the most was his lame attempt at acting like he somehow respected her by saying “i’m happy for you, i’ll let you finish” First of all Kanye, what makes you think you are in a position where you hold the power to “let” taylor swift do anything? He clearly did not respect her one bit or he would never have done that, so he should have just saved that lame attempt at being nice to her about it. I’m sure she felt a little overwhelmed also having it be the MTV music awards and the ONLY country artist there. First of all, I’m not a big Taylor fan. She’s very talented, I can see that, just not my cup of tea. However, she’s still the baby of country music. So, there’s a lot of ignorance out there - obviously but I think the point that people were trying to make so belligerently was that if it had been a white person doing it to a dark person then the racism angle would have been mentioned more than once, and here it hasn’t been. As a big Taylor supporter, I would like to point out that Kanye was very respectful towards Taylor while in the midst of disrespectfully grabbing the microphone.
Kanye may have poor impulse control and poor timing, but I don’t believe he was intentionally planning to disrupt her acceptance speech - he was planning to tell the fan voters they were wrong & hand the microphone back.
Taylor is strong enough to handle this disruption - especially with the support that Beyonce and others provided last night.

As for Kanye, this is the same man that said “If I don’t win, the awards show has no credibility” a couple of years ago, when he stormed the stage after losing an award during some group’s acceptance speech. This incident gets publicity for all three. And while Kanye looks like a jerk to Swift fans, Kanye’s career has been based in part on being a jerk. His fans may eat this up (and the people bashing Kanye possibly aren’t Kanye fans in the first place, thus costing him little). Swift and Beyonce fans will have their own reasons for eating this up.
Even if this wasnt planned in advance (like the Bruno/Eminem stunt) it probably helps all parties involved. Taylor Swift got a lot of publicity on the pop country station this morning that she might not have gotten if she had simply won without incident.

First of all I have to say I am a black female and I love Country music. I love all music that is clean and has a message. I am so upset by what happened. I am 40 so Taylor swift music does not really grab me, but I think she is adorable and I have seen her in interviews and she looks like a very well raised young lady that is bringing clean music to young teens which is what we need more of. Yes The VMA’s are called Video Music Awards hosted by MTV, how often do you see country music entertainers show up there? Lets get real here, where was Reba, or Strait or Sugarland?? These award are not set up for their type of music but that of music shown on MTV. Country music has their own CMT, AMC award shows which never have any rock artists or rappers nominated. Then to honor all types of music you have the AMAs. Taylor said herself “I am a country singer.” I agree with the comment someone else on here said.
