Darius Rucker Breaks Records Just With Nominations

Darius RuckerWith all the talk of CMA nominations floating around, I want to make something very clear. Even though he hasn't officially won any of those awards yet, Darius Rucker is breaking records with his nominations alone. He is the first male artist to get new artist and male vocalist nominations in the same year since 2000. That's when Brad Paisley did it -- after Garth Brooks and Randy Travis had done so before him. And Rucker is the first black artist to be nominated in the male vocalist category since Charley Pride made the list in 1972. He told MusicCityTV, "I didn't do the record for those things, but when I think about that, I can't help but be proud." He added, in a very humble way, "I can't explain it. I mean, I just, I'm waiting for the alarm clock to wake me up, man." Like as if this is all a big dream instead of the very true reality that Rucker is just that good.

He was an established artist before he came to country so it makes sense - too bad he plans on going back with Hootie and the Blowfish

I like Darius, but to be nominated in both categories makes no sense to me. After all we have male artists that have been in country longer and still are not nominated in this category such as Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton or even country legends such as Toby Keith and Tim McGraw. Yes he should have been nominated for the NEW Male Artist which he deserves and I hope he wins, but not both. Just crazy how they overlook other male artists that have been going strong in country for years. At least my fave, KEITH URBAN, was still nominated (for 5 awards!) and I truly hope he wins this year, he deserves it! Keith is an awesome entertainer and country artist, good luck to Keith!
