Top 10 Tracks I'm Digging Right Now

Posted: August 31st, 2009 at 10:41 am  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Carrie UnderwoodI was at a Carrie Underwood concert last night (Aug. 30) and got into a deep conversation with the guy sitting behind me all about which artists are truly country. His point was that today's country is really pop. I completely disagree, because really, when was the last time Britney Spears had a steel guitar on her tour? Or the Fray was rocking a banjo? So as long as the right instruments are in place, as they are here, country is country enough for me.

"The More Boys I Meet," Carrie Underwood
"All I Want," Darius Rucker
"Our Song," Taylor Swift
"Here Comes Goodbye," Rascal Flatts
"Back Where I Come From," Kenny Chesney
"Already Gone," Sugarland
"You to Miss," Love and Theft
"I Told You So," Keith Urban
"Kristofferson," Tim McGraw
"Home Is Where the Heart Is," Lady Antebellum

This concert sold out in one day and sold approx. 20thousand tickets. A second show was added(Aug.31) which also sold out and sold the same number of tickets. Way to go Carrie!

To “S”, Alison already knows what Pop Music is. Apparently she refuses to accept it or she refuses to educate anyone around her on this subject, therefore continuing to disrespect Country Music. Anyone who educates themselves, and respects music, musicians, singer, songwriters, etc. already know that Pop music is not an individual genre music, and that it’s an industry consisting of many genres of music including Rock, Hip Hip, R&B, Adult Contemporary, and Country. Why?…you even know that don’t you “S”?

Having banjo and a steel guitar doesn’t mean a band is country. In fact a banjo is more a bluegrass instrument.

Alison - you are really starting to scare me now. I will ignore all the Carrie haters above just because it appears that you have sprung from the Carrie Underwood darkness and into the light. I’ll be watching your blogs to see if this was an honest conversion or distraction ploy to launch the surprise attack. But, for now, I have one eye on you and lips with a half smile.

As for the Taylor hating going on, come on, can we give it a rest for 1 blog. Give Alison a break here.

Interesting logic. I guess that means if Jay-Z puts a steel guitar in his next album then he’s a country artist.

Still waiting for a reply from “S”, the resident music expert(sfip). That’s a good one “Joe M”! So if Underwood’s handlers drop out the already buried steel guitar track…that suddenly makes it Pop? Too funny. Alison, if you didn’t disrespect Country music so much, you’d be funny.
