Billy Currington Is David Letterman’s Hero
It takes David Letterman a full three minutes to introduce Billy Currington. That's how much praise he has for Currington's latest hit, "People Are Crazy." In fact, Letterman is downright gushing like some kind of uber-fan, comparing the artistry of the tune to Michelangelo's "David" and predicting that people will one day be getting tattoos of the song's lyrics on their bodies. He says the song is absolute perfection and embodies everything you think about in life. But the best part of his sermon is when he says, "If I were the people running country music, I would shut it down right now. You're not gonna do any better." After Currington's fantastic performance, which was enhanced with a small gospel choir in the backing band, Letterman comes back out to say, "Oh my God. That's all you need to know. God is great. Beer is good. People are crazy. My hero, Billy Currington."

I agree with Letterman…great song! It really sticks in your head too.
Redmaz says:
“People Are Crazy” is a Bobby Braddock/Wayne Jones song. A little songwriter credit would be nice. I’m not familiar with Jones but Braddock is a legendary songwriter, who’s credits are “He Stopped Loving Her Today” and “Golden Ring”. It’s a nice song. Nice melody, but not much of a vocal challenge, so nearly anyone could sing it. If they’re playing it on Pop Country radio, it’s probably the best they have..

This is the perfect song, perfectly written and sung. The definite CMA Song AND Single Of The Year.

I agree with you, itchycorn.

I will try again. Some reason it is letting me post. I love this beautiful simple song and Billy Currington is way underrated.

This is a really catchy, ingratiating song performed perfectly by Billy. Even better is the video which brings it to life in such a fun, casual way you believe it could be real. I heard Billy fought real hard for the right to record this tune. He had good instincts.
Stone Ln says:
I agree with Redmaz. Let’s give some credit to Braddock. The song will be best remembered for its lyrics, not Currington’s underwhelming performance. It doesn’t take golden lungs to sing the song; all Currington had to due was not screw it up.
But I’ll give him credit for snatching the song away from George Strait, Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, and Kenny Chesney. And it should be nominated for single and song of the year when the CMA nominations are announced.

Love the song and love Billy’s rendition of it. I think the songwriters got it right and I believe Billy does bring the song to life in it’s intended way. Even though I love the other artists mentioned, I don’t think they would have brought the fun and catchiness to the song as Billy does. They would have also performed it beautiful but with a different rendition and presentation of the song.
It comes on every morning as I dress for work and me and my husband both look forward to it and leave feeling spirited. Good job by both the songwriters and Billy!
Robin says:
I really like the song and the video. It’s “one” of my favorites, but I think Letterman’s gushing was way over the top. The song’s not the beat all end all of country music. But, I won’t critisize the song either. Like I said, it’s one of my favorites.
I love that this old man who lived his life, but never “seemed” to connect to the important people in his life finally felt that there was someone out there in the world that “understood” him. And, I always love to see greedy kids “get theirs”.
Anyway, I love this song and the video more, but there are alot of songs I love just as much. Off the top of my head, a couple of current songs that I think are just as outstanding are “Welcome to the Future” and “Then”. Although both of these are by Brad, there are other artists that have great songs out there. “Whiskey Lullaby” is another one. I know, I know, more Brad songs, but they are the only one’s coming to mind right now.
Tenn says:
I really like Billy Currington singing this song - the song that sums up life nicely is great to begin with- kudos to the songwriters but Billy’s attitude when he sings it really puts it where it belongs- at the top - the video is great too and just caps it off nicely - good job Billy ! As for David Letterman, fine that he likes the song but I for one think he makes his living by making rude, unecessary and unfunny jokes and prob doesn’t listen to country music to know how many great songs and singers there are. I would never want to have a beer with Letterman, now Billy on the other hand…
Ham says:
Great song and great interpretation. It makes people smile and that’s enough.
sissy says:
I enjoyed his performance, and the song really sticks in your head!
Jerry says:
Look at the great Country Western Songs.
Many written by Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton to name but a few. The songs are simple with a great tune and easy to sing. This is one of those songs. Just a great classic by Braddock and Jones, sung by Carrington.
LEWEN77 says:
This song is one of the better songs of the year and has the making of single of the year. The writers are fabulous but I believe Billy brought his own interpretation to the song. I think this was a great breaking point for him, as he is way underated. I’ve been a fan for years and have loved his music, I am so glad he’s getting the recognition he finally deserves. Kudos Billy and the writers on a job well done all the way around.

hotelmotel says:
I can only assume that Letterman is mocking this song and the people who think it actually has any wisdom.

Holy Cow. This Song Is Amazing.
Billy is a great artist. Love the song. & Billy is A HOTTTTTIE. (: lol. Great Song Billy.
Jim says:
The Letterman production of the song was amazing. The gospel choir at the end was indeed a surprise, and for some reason it worked. I keep wondering who’s idea that was. I DVR Letterman regularly and cannot bring myself to delete that episode.
Colleen Prabhu says:
Just like Mr. David Letterman addresses Billy Currington, so do I “MY HERO”.
Please ship some of your music to Muscat, Oman. After hearing you on the show, I have been looking for your cd for the last 2 weeks and have not yet got one.
With Best Wishes to Billy Currington.
Phil Manfra says:
David Letterman is a proponent of giving bands big breaks.
Look what he did for Warren Zevon.
He gave him a whole show when Warren was diagnosed with
lung cancer. When Dave likes some one (Billy Currington)
he will gush about them forever. The Late Show is the only
tv show I watch (except the news & sports). There is so much crap on tv (reality shows)that I don’t care who wins
Dancing with the Stars. If Robert DiNero, Al Pacino,
Jack Nicolson, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep & Julia Roberts
were on that show I might watch. Bristol Palin? What has she done to be considered a star (get pregnant)?
