Kellie Pickler Wants to Be Like Loretta Lynn, But …

Posted: August 19th, 2009 at 4:16 pm  |  By: Craig Shelburne

Kellie PicklerKellie Pickler performed an acoustic concert for select members of the music industry earlier this week in Nashville, and since I've never heard her in a quiet setting before, I decided to go. This may surprise some readers, because of my allegiance to Americana music and bluegrass, but I really like the way she sings. Especially in a low-key setting, there is no mistaking the traditional aspect of her vocals. But during this showcase, she kind of went off the rails. My perception is that she's still trying find the balance between being goofy and artistic, which I realize is a challenge all its own.

First I'll reiterate that she really is a remarkable vocalist. Backed by three members of her touring band, she delivered strong renditions of "Making Me Fall in Love Again" and Keith Whitley's "Don't Close Your Eyes." She raved about meeting Loretta Lynn at a fair in Canada, and told us Lynn wants to write songs with her. Pickler summed up the story (which she rarely does) by saying that if she's in the business long enough, she hopes that people will consider her as genuine in person as they do when she's onstage, just like Loretta Lynn.

However, I don't think Loretta would drop F-bombs in front of Opry management, or refer to her latest single as "Didn't Yo' Ass Know?!" And that's what happened at the showcase. Besides, everybody was kind of itching to leave, since the casual after-work showcase lasted well past 7 p.m. Yet, she still cracks me up, talking about how disappointed she was to find out that the wheel on The Price Is Right is made of cardboard, or that she expected to find trees and plants at Madison Square Garden. Oh, Kellie. ... Luckily, her music still leaves the biggest impression.

I think Kellie is cute and funny but I think she is just an average singer. I really think she missed her calling. I think she would have been a very stand up comedian. She would be a hoot!!!!

She needs to get over herself and get some class. So over-rated, and sorry never compare to a great like Loretta Lynn.

Americana fans are without a doubt some of the most educated, and open minded fans in any genre of music. I always learn something when talking to a fellow Americana Music fan. We share a common love for music, and not the hatred that spews from Mainstreamers. Chris Knight is an amazing singer/songwriter. I don’t care if he cusses or not. I’m an adult listening to adult music. I can handle it. This isn’t Kiddie Country.

I don’t think women should cuss in public, it shows no class, and not a good role model to the young girls.
I’m uncomfortable enough if the guys do it, but a young woman is really a turn off.

Noone will ever touch Loretta Lynn but I love Kellie, she is just a young talented gal looking for something better than what she was dealt in early life…I hope she does make it big but she will have to change her vocabulary to do so, at least in the public eye….You Rock Kellie! and kudos to you for lovin’ and respecting your Grandma!

This girl lacks the talent to be anywhere as good as Loretta, Dolly, Faith, Martina, Carrie, Miranda, etc.. As I said before she is just an average singer. She is a role model to some girls and I think she should watch her language and should not have had a boob job. She should have been happy with what God gave her. It is sending the wrong message to girls. Go figure!!!

I think that’s great that she respects her Grandma, but I don’t think she’s being fair to her own Mom. She has to walk in her Mom’s shoes to know what she went through.
Why can’t she forgive her, and help her Family, and stop being so selfish.
She only be- friends the ones that can help her get noticed, and will do what ever it takes to be noticed.
This is my opinion and I you don’t have to agree, but it’s all very obvious she is fake!

Honestly you can’t say Carrie has more potential in singing or even is a better singer than Kellie. I understand you love the old classic country music stars like Dolly and Loretta. Everyone does! But give me a break, this girl Kellie has potential that she is just starting to explore. Carrie sounds the same in all her singing with her high pitched voice, which I guess is a matter of preference. But Kellie has range, and a beautiful speaking and singing voice, and a more classic sound. Many people think she sounds like Dolly, and she is Still young and learning. She has had a rough childhood, and has grown an astonishing amount in JUST A YEAR. She also has the personality which will make her an artist that will grow and have longivity. She is not a drive- by artist, here today, gone tomro, which I honestly think Carrie and Taylor are examples of.

Katie, it is Kellie that sings in a key too high for her voice. Carrie’s voice is full of tone and rich vibrato, which Kellie lacks. Granted, Kellie is much better than Taylor Swift, but to compare her to Carrie is ridiculous. The music industry knows I’m right, since they have awarded Carrie 6 BEST FEMALE VOCALIST AWARDS, not to mention the grammys. And she’s not “gone tomorrow”. She has a stage for life..does the Grand Ole Opry sound familiar?

Kellie needs to stop spitting out words when she sings…”you already had the BEST (the word best is spit out) years of your life”. She has potential, but she’s a long way off from the best.

First of all Kellie didnt say she wanted to be Loretta Lynn
Or Sing like her! she said “saying that if she’s in the business long enough, she hopes that people will consider her as genuine in person as they do when she’s onstage, just like Loretta Lynn.”
Craig Shelburne quoted by saying “there is no mistaking the traditional aspect of her vocals.”
Kellie Pickler is a wonderful and great Singer!!!! she will be around along time!!! not only beacause she sings great but because she has a heart of gold!!she loves her fans!!! everyone makes mistakes cussing!!! she’ll be just fine!! she still is learning and is still fresh in the business. Again, We love you Kellie Pickler!!!!!!

I suspect many of those who don’t appreciate Kellie’s vocals are only familiar with her singles. I like them, but they don’t show what she can do as much as some other songs on her albums. Even then, I’d recommend some songs she did on Idol — like I’m the Only One or Walkin’ After Midnight — to introduce a newcomer to her voice. Also, her cover of Santa Baby for a Christmas album is a great example.

What I like most about Kellie is that she’s a quick study. She’s young and learning a lot very quickly. (She’ll probably learn to leave the f-bombs out of public speaking too.)

To compare her to legends, you’d have to consider what they were doing in their early 20’s, not to their lifetime body of work. I believe Kellie has what it takes to mature into a legend. She has the talent and loves the art of country music.

cine~~~Its apparent you were not raised by your grandparents while your parents (mother or father) went off and started a new life of their own and forgot their children. Take it from someone who knows, when your raised by your grandparents it gives you a whole new perspective on life and people I love my grandparents to death, and can not stand my biological parents. It takes a very uncaring and SELFISH person to walk away from your child and let a grandparent raise them. So I think you can take your comment and sit on it. YOU ROCK KELLIE

I agree with cine…Kellie is an opportunist, all well and good, but lacks the vocals. I also think you should give Family a chance and there’s a reason he Mom had to do what she did.

I love Kellie Pickler and see a long future for her in the business. She has one of the sweetest voices around today and the personality to go with it. You go Kellie, your fans love you!

What a great treat to see Kellie perform an acoustic concert where her supreme vocals were the star! Now you know why I and many country fans are huge Kellie fans and go to many of her concerts! I love how she sings! She’s an amazing vocalist and diverse singer! She can sing anything from the national anthem to country classics to Christmas songs to traditonal country to new country to pop/rock crossover and it all sounds fantastic! This remarkable vocalist deserves Female Vocalist of the Year and Top Female Vocalist nominations!!!!! She’s a better vocalist than many who have been nominated in years past and equal to some winners! Since Kellie is a such a great live and acoustic singer, her label should capture some acoustic and live performances and put them on her CD! I’d buy ‘em! I’m surprised she hasn’t performed CMT acoustic sessions and Crossroads yet!

As many times as Kellie has performed at the Opry, the staff and fans there love her and she sells out the place, Opry management knows this was a private industry event and she doesn’t drop the F-bomb on the Opry stage or at concerts. Just from her concerts I can tell she’s a perfectionist so maybe that’s why she cussed at herself when she misstated Elton John’s name. Here’s how another reviewer, USA Today’s Brian Mansfield (@usatodayidol), described it while twittering live from the same show:

“@therealpickler drops the f-bomb twice after accidentally
misstating Elton John’s name. Oops, make that three times.”
5:00 PM Aug 17th from Twitterrific

“And, yes, @therealpickler does know Elton John’s name. She just got flustered.”
5:01 PM Aug 17th from Twitterrific

As for “…or refer to her latest single as “Didn’t Yo’ Ass Know?!”

Why didn’t you mention that she was joking? As Brian’s review on the USA Today website mentioned, sometimes she writes fake song titles on her set lists to keep her band amused. Beats working for a boring boss and going to boring concerts! Besides, I thought CMT likes rappers? It’s OK for some artists to rap on the CMT Awards and for CMT to put Snoop Dogg and T-Pain videos on here but not for Kellie to joke about a fake rap title at a small private concert? Yo’ wazzup wit dat?

Thanks for the great review of Kellie’s singing! Fans have been raving about her outstanding vocals and concerts for over 3 years and it’s about time the industry started to catch on! :)

I can’t wait to see the video for Kellie’s new single “Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You” on CMT and the website!

Last but not least, Kellie is also a great songwriter and the songs she writes are the best!

Real country, great singing, and great songs about real life. That’s Kellie Pickler.

Reviews of just a couple of songs from “Kellie Pickler: traditional country music on the upswing” Edward Lee, Jackson NJ Online:

“Don’t Close Your Eyes: (5/5) a perfectly traditional Country/Western ballad that brings Kellie’s subdued voice brilliantly to the front in a big Country way. A musical wish to rediscover love with your lover.”

“Somebody To Love Me (5/5!!!!!!): another pitch perfect performance from a voice that God made to sing big, big, and bigger Country ballads as Pickler sings about the human desire/need/want to save someone special in life. The song just cries out for a music video, complete with weeping violins.”

If this were true then Craig, who was actually there, would not have said “I’ll reiterate that she really is a remarkable vocalist.” I’ve rarely if ever seen him say that about other singers. As Kellie has proven at every concert and many professional reviewers of her concerts said before, she’s far above average and one of the best singers! Kellie blows most singers away with the unique tone and beauty of her voice alone! Add her great range, flawless, pitch-perfect, oh-so-softly to mid to powerful pipes, traditional, new country and genre crossover diversity, expert delivery and rare ability to convey emotion and make the audience feel what she’s feeling, and she can’t be beat!

Wrong again. If this were true then Dolly would not have asked Kellie to sing a duet with her live at her rare Nashville concert, and they sounded great together! Nor would Carrie and Miranda have said they’d like to tour with Kellie. She’s just as great as and perfectly fits into the group of great singers you named! Ha!

Katie, it is Kellie that sings in a key too high for her voice.

Another fan of another Idol knocking Kellie’s singing. Tsk tsk. Kellie does not sing too high for her voice at all, so you are wrong. She’s a soprano who was born to sing the high notes! Over 3 years ago when she sang and nailed Reba’s “Fancy” on Idol, legend Kenny Rogers, who has sung #1 hit duets with Dolly, said to Kellie, “Your money is the high notes you know, that’s what’s gonna make it work for you.” By the way Kellie is about the only one who sang country songs on Idol, giving huge exposure to country music and bringing many new fans to the genre! Reba herself said she liked how Kellie sang Fancy, and now Kellie performs on the same stages as Reba! Neat how that worked out!

  • Robin says:

    Posted: August 21st, 2009 at 8:03 am

Ok - So, much to respond to on this blog, but I’ll try to shorten it to responding to themes.

Kellie is a really good singer who picks pretty good songs (and some really great songs - I love “Lucky Girl”). She is a hoot to watch and listen too. I think she has alot of potential and I see her stinking around country music for the long haul. She’s not nearly as talented as Carrie as some rants back and forth have stated, but there are only a handful of singers that are (Martina, Reba, LeAnn).

But, my favorite artists include great singers/storytellers (like Carrie) and pretty good singers with a “different/unique” voice that is pleasant to listen to and are good storytellers. I love Brad Paisley and while he is a really good singer, I wouuldn’t call him great. He is my favorite male artist out there right now and I don’t care if his voice could be better. I think his unique vocals, his songs and his good voice make him an artist I like alot. Kellie is the same. Not a perfect voice, but I good one and I like her songs. While I like Taylor Swift as a person and a teen performer/influence, I think her songs are one dimensional and boring and her vocals could not be classified as good (she sings through her noise and it annoys me like Rascal Flatts). Miranda Lambert, really good, unique voice with freakn’ fantastic songs and I love her brooty attitude.

  • Robin says:

    Posted: August 21st, 2009 at 8:09 am

Seperately I’ll address the snooty comments about how Kellie feels about her mother.

Cine - She respects her Grandma because her grandmother was what her mother should have been. Enough said. You have no idea if she’s being fair to her mother because YOU didn’t live her life. You have to walk in her shoes to know what Kellie went through. “Judge not”. Kellie actually had to live with her mothers choices. I cannot believe someone can actually defend a child abuser. She should be able to deal with the abuse that went on in her life at the hands of her mother her own way. An abused child having nothing to do with the abuser is NOT being selfish. It is being self sufficient. Kellie’s mother has to deal with the problem SHE created as the adult. If I fled from an abusive man, you can sure as heck believe my daughter would have been by my side (number 1), (number 2) if I left because I felt it was the safest thing for my child, then when I did come back to get her, I wouldn’t abuse her and have a judge remove her from my custody. Abusers should go to jail, not get pitty from anyway.

To Robin, do you listen to any of today’s Country Music other than Pop? Just wondering how much Country Music you actually listen to. Your focus seems quite narrow…but I could be wrong. However I do like the part where you said “I see her stinking around country music for the long haul” However she’s only recognized in about 10% of today’s total country music scene,(as is Paisley, Underwood, RF, and Swift), so she can’t stink it up too bad, or at least not any worse than it is already.

  • Kate says:

    Posted: August 21st, 2009 at 8:47 am

Kellie doesn’t really have a clue as to ‘who’ or ‘what’ she is…when she finds herself, she’ll be able to move forward.

Kellie’s voice is not her strength…her pitch is so high she sometimes sounds like she’s on helium

Loretta Lynn and Dolly are not in my estimation and by today’s competition great vocalists but they are great song writers..

For those who think of Kellie as a ’superstar’..I’m glad she has fans who think that way it’s always great boost to one’s ego…but in reality the stats show that a ’superstar’ she is not…

  • sissy says:

    Posted: August 21st, 2009 at 9:10 am

Brava Kate, you summed it up perfectly!

She started out trying to be like Dolly…had the personality, but not the voice. Then she starts to copy everything Carrie was into, becoming a vegetarian, then into pets, then into fashion and using the same designers as Carrie. Move to Tenn. buy a House, tour Bus…wow, she really does act like superstar.
I must say though she knows who to hang out with to get noticed! She realy needed to concentrate on her vocals first, then go for the stardom! Well, I personally can’t watch her perform, but she is very lucky to have the fans that stick by her. Please, people don’t try to compare her with the ones that have the real talent, it’s a real insult to them.

You think she’s the best. The best can be replaced. And for sure when they have fan’s like Carrie fans. But then she already has been. Taylor replaced her. :) That’s my girl..

LGF…now your using the name CARRIEFAN…to supoort your post? That’s really rude to bring Carrie into this!~!

I don’t know what you’re reading or doing but you don’t make any sense. Sorry to disappoint you and I like Carrie but I would never associate with her fans that talk bad about other artists on the blogs. The way some fans act is a disgrace. So you don’t like other singers, it’s no excuse to go on every blog about them and post it multiple times.

Obviously “CarrieFan” is not me and is supporting your posts, so try again. Her post sounds like you or one of the other Carrie fans that changes names all the time. Funny you say it’s rude to bring Carrie into this since a few of her fans are the first ones to do it on every Kellie and Taylor blog. Stay on Carrie’s blogs and you will be happier! I thought Carrie’s singing was enough to satisfy all her fans, guess not for some. She can’t even take a week off for vacation without some of you griping about it on her fan boards. I’d be ashamed.

Kellie is a really good singer who picks pretty good songs (and some really great songs - I love “Lucky Girl”).

Kellie also WRITES great songs. She wrote about half her songs and they are the best! She’s just as talented as everyone you mentioned and she’s a great singer/songwriter/storyteller with a different/unique voice. It’s exactly why I love her singing.

All the doubters might want to check Reba’s new interview:

“At 54 years old, with more than three decades of her music career to look back on, Reba McEntire stays current by keeping up with what the younger gals in the music business are up to. She tells PEOPLE.com that she likes a lot of what Taylor Swift and Kellie Pickler are doing, and predicts long-lasting careers for both.”

I agree 100% with your post about Kellie’s grandmother and mother. I can’t believe anyone would judge Kellie on that and it’s none of their business but I can’t believe most of the junk the same people post to bash her.

Kellie doesn’t really have a clue as to ‘who’ or ‘what’ she is…when she finds herself, she’ll be able to move forward.

Another Carrie fan and regular jr. high-level basher on the Kellie blogs. YOU don’t have a clue! Kellie’s voice is her #1 strength and it’s why I’m a fan! I also love her songwriting!

Dolly’s not a great vocalist? She has 7 Grammys and 42 nominations, 3 AMAs, 10 CMAs including Female Vocalist of the Year. She’s one of just 5 females to win CMA Entertainer of the Year! She’s an Opry member, Country Music Hall of Fame member and has Kennedy Center Honors! In the early years of her career she had the same trouble Kellie has with getting more industry attention.

Loretta’s not a great vocalist? She has 4 Grammys, 7 AMAs, 10 ACMs, 8 CMAs including Female Vocalist of the Year and Entertainer of the Year, Opry member, Country Music Hall of Fame member and has Kennedy Center Honors!

These women have made great music for decades! I don’t know if the same holds true on your planet but here on earth they are LEGENDS and ICONS of country music! They are some of best singers and songwriters in the history of music! So to say they aren’t great vocalists is a joke and disgrace! Maybe it makes you feel better about your favorite?

For those who think of Kellie as a ’superstar’..I’m glad she has fans who think that way it’s always great boost to one’s ego…but in reality the stats show that a ’superstar’ she is not…

What makes you think only her fans know she’s a superstar? Try reading some professional articles and you will see they say the same thing. Maybe you just can’t handle it because you don’t like Kellie getting attention. Even the CMA says she’s a superstar! She performed on the same big stages with other superstars at the awards shows, Opry, and CMA Fest. Who won CMT Awards Performance of the Year for the best superstar performance on the CMA Awards over all the other superstars who performed? Kellie Pickler.

OK “sissy” you’re wrong again. No, Kellie said Dolly is her idol. She has “the voice” and sounds similar to Dolly although no one has the same voice as Dolly. She copies Carrie? Hahaha are you back in jr. high? Let’s see, Shania was a vegetarian long before Carrie so going by your thinking Carrie copied her. I hate to break the news to you but there are millions of vegetarians in this big old world, and like many of them Kellie became a vegetarian for health reasons and concerns about animal welfare based on her own research, so Carrie had nothing to do with it. They are just friends with things in common.

No artists had pets or nice clothes before Carrie? Kellie and Carrie share some of the same best designers because they are superstars who deserve the best, those designers’ clothes look great on them, and the best designers want the best superstars to wear their designs on the red carpets and awards shows! It’s great advertising. You probably think Carrie invented vegetarianism, pets, fashion, housing, the wheel and the internet too! haha! Most country stars live around Nashville because they need to as it’s the epicenter of country music. Every big star who tours has a tour bus, did Carrie invent those too? Some also have private jets. Kellie wrote 10 songs and she didn’t copy Carrie or anyone there either.

Since Kellie is a superstar she hangs out with other superstars, and because she has the real talent they want to write, sing, and tour with her!

KKH - It’s Taylor fans that have a problem. I happen to like Carrie and Kellie and alot more people than that. Don’t like Taylor musically because she can’t sing or write music. But, I still don’t see anything wrong with her being in this industry doing what she does for the teen set.

Isn’t that enough or do people have to worship her? I like a TON of people including Carrie. Taylor fans like no one but Taylor because she’s not her fans don’t listen to country music.

I know she writes music, but like Carrie, I think she’s still learning that craft and the meat of the music is coming from the professionals. I think she and Carrie will start getting alot better on their own though because they do practice and work with great teachers.

Love Kellie, AND Carrie. Why does there need to be a choice, or competition? Are we not allowed to love more than ONE artist? I appreciate each artist for their individual sound, style, interpretation of music, and their personalities. I think the FANS are the problem, insisting one is better than the other. Enjoy your choice and allow others to have theirs (what a concept).

Saw Kellie in concert, she’s great, funny, vocals right on. I love Carrie too.

Well well the pot is calling the kettle black!

Words are cheap depending on the day of the week anyone can have ’superstar’attached to their names…the stats prove otherwise…the stats meaning chart stats, record sales stats..nominations and wins stats, concert headlining stats, etc. etc. etc.

I am well aware of Dolly’s and Loretta’s well deserved accomplishments and it is my opinion that they weren’t great vocalists…Were they superstars..of course and the stats prove it.

I don’t need anyone or anything to feel good about my favorites, they would be my favorites with or without awards

No I am not a fan of kellie’s voice never have been from AI days…but I do wish her success. I just don’t believe she has achieved superstar status and I’m pretty sure Kellie herself would agree with that estimations.

was probably never a fan of Carrie…her tastes tend towards mainstream not country and of course TAylor is not country well maybe in name only…however

It’s interesting that Taylor is always credited as being the sole writer of her songs on her albums but in fact someone named Rose appears pretty frequently as a co-writer as do other writers…fancy that…

must give credit where credit is due and Taylor is in fact the lone writer on a number of songs some of which have done well on the charts…

Yes I expect Taylor may win some ‘industry’ awards this year as her album and songs have done well on the charts…but some awards I suspect she will never/shouldn’t win…

.. you must be very young and naive to think Miss Carrie is done winning awards..

Lucky Girl Fan - I don’t think Kellie’s a great vocalist. I’m not sure that anyone can really support that, BUT I still love her voice and her music.

The fact that Kellie is a great vocalist is already widely supported among those who have heard her sing live at concerts and that number is probably near or over 2 million by now. There is no better way to judge vocals than hearing a singer live in concert, so it’s good to read the professional concert reviews from the critics who go to concerts all the time. Kellie gets great vocal, song, and performance reviews on every big tour she does and the concerts she headlines. Let’s see what some recent professional reviews said about her vocals:

“This may surprise some readers, because of my allegiance to Americana music and bluegrass, but I really like the way she sings. Especially in a low-key setting, there is no mistaking the traditional aspect of her vocals.”

“First I’ll reiterate that she really is a remarkable vocalist. Backed by three members of her touring band, she delivered strong renditions of “Making Me Fall in Love Again” and Keith Whitley’s “Don’t Close Your Eyes.”"

-Craig Shelburne, CMT writer and concert reviewer. This was an acoustic set in a quiet setting so there was far more vocal than music and he could hear every nuance loud and clear.

“Treven Wisz, 21, of Kronenwetter, said that he enjoys Pickler’s music and has been a fan of hers since her time on “Idol.”

“From watching ‘Idol,’ I knew she had a great voice. Her songs are all really catchy, and she can really belt out the notes,” said Wisz, who was looking forward to hearing “Rocks Instead of Rice,” a song from Pickler’s most recent album.

“You can tell she truly appreciates her fans getting her to where she’s at and that she doesn’t take things for granted,” he said. “It’s refreshing to see a big star with traits like that.”"

-”Country star Kellie Pickler dazzles sold-out crowd” Dan Richter, Wausau Daily Herald, August 8, 2009

“Kellie Pickler chose the first song of the night just right as “Best Days of Your Life,” which described what Katie Falk, 15, and her cousin Stephanie Falk, 14, were going through during the concert as their favorite country artist belted out tune after tune pitch perfect before the fairgrounds-bursting crowd of more than 10,000.”

““Rocks Instead of Rice,” “Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful” and “Don’t You Know How Much I Love You” came pumping out of the songstress in rapid fire, exciting the crowd of 8 to 80.”

-”It was Pickler-mania,‘American Idol’ star wows grandstand” Scott Schmeltzer, Albert Lea Tribune, Friday, August 7, 2009

“Kellie Pickler opened for Swift, a choice that complimented both.

Pickler got the crowd energized with her first song, “Best Days of Your Life,” a top-charting hit currently on country radio that she co-wrote with Swift.

Pickler, known for her more glamorous-side, wore a black tank top, jeans and fashion boots.

The show was more about her singing and ability to command the crowd than being glamorous, though.”

“Pickler’s energy never faltered throughout her performance.

She really got the crowd’s attention with her rendition of her idol’s, Dolly Parton, hit “9 to 5.”

People of all ages were clapping along.

She even slowed the show down with her song “I Wonder” and still captivated the audience’s attention.

It’s no wonder that she was an “American Idol” finalist, she certainly has the ability to project her voice and did a much better job of it than Julianne Hough did when opening for George Strait on Saturday.”

-”Taylor Swift/Kellie Pickler CFD Night Show Review” Wyoming Tribune Eagle entertainment reporter Karen Cotton, July 24, 2009

“Her opening acts were the upcoming band, Gloriana, and former “American Idol” contestant, Kellie Pickler. I was impressed as they warmed up the crowd for Swift. Who knew that they could sing better than what you hear from others on the radio?”

-”FLIPSIDE: Talented Taylor Swift wows sold-out Charleston crowd” The Charleston Gazette, July 24, 2009

“There were no red high heels in sight… but Kellie Pickler oozed her trademark southern charm and easily filled the Craven valley with her big voice Friday night.

Dressed down in a white T-shirt, black pants and knee-high riding boots, the petite Pickler delivered a simple set that was free of frills, but full of heart.”

“Soon into her set, Pickler proved that her American Idol Top 10 finish in 2006 was just a springboard for a well-deserved career on the country stage. Pickler showed she has a stronger voice than her records suggest, which she proved over and over with songs like “Things That Never Cross a Man’s Mind” and “Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful.”"

-”Review: Kellie Pickler charms Craven crowd” Erin Harde, The Leader-Post, July 11, 2009

Also thousands of people have posted comments on her myspace and twitter saying she’s a great vocalist. Just a couple from today:

    “Jason

    Aug 22 2009 12:43 AM

Just wanted you to know that you are awesome that God has blessed you with a great voice and you use it well! Keep rock’n”

“@therealpickler Kellie Pickler is oficially the most amazing singer/person i have ever seen in my entire life. just thot id put it out there”

So thousands of unbiased people say she’s a great vocalist, which far outweighs the few biased fans of others here knocking her. I guess the industry and many awards voters are slower to catch on because most people within the industry have not been to her concerts. Since CMA Female Vocalist of the Year is supposed to be based on vocal performances, she deserves nominations more than anyone who hasn’t been nominated.

Kellie has the best concerts and brings many new fans to country, as a quick look at comments posted on her myspace after every concert shows:

    “Godsmacker

    Aug 22 2009 5:32 AM

Just saw your show at the Illinois State Fair, my first country concert. You was amazing and James Otto was good too. It was my daughters first concert ever and she loved it too.”

    “Lovin Life ~n~ Chillin

    Aug 22 2009 4:00 AM

Hello Kelly!!OMG!!Your show tonight in Springfield Il. rocked….You were AWESOME!!!Looking forward to meeting you, one lucky day. Thanks again for a rockin show tonight!A Fan n Friend.”

    “Samantha (Sunshine) (Slammer) Sammi

    Aug 22 2009 3:13 AM

Just Got Back From Seeing You In Springfield, You Were AWESOME!!!”

Kate, my definition of a superstar is based on talent, music, concerts, and what country fans say and do, not just stats. Here’s some numbers for you though:

Since Carrie’s debut in 2005, Kellie’s sales rank in the top 3 of all new country artists and she has more radio hits than every new female artist except Taylor. So except for Taylor, no female artist whose career started after Carrie’s has better stats than Kellie, and just one male artist or group has better stats. That’s because Kellie is one of the most talented newer artists in country music. She has many awards nominations and wins and deserves more but like I said she’s just starting to get more industry attention. She can’t help that she didn’t get the attention she deserved before and if she did her stats would be a lot higher.

KELLIE PICKLER BREAKS ATTENDANCE RECORD IN ALBERT LEA, MN

10,000 + Crowd Forces Fair To Close Gates Early

ALBERT LEA, MN – As they say, records are meant to be broken, even if they take decades. With rain looming, officials with the Freeborn County Fair decided to move singer-songwriter Kellie Pickler’s show up an hour to ensure the performance and even with that last minute move, Pickler still had more fans than the venue would hold.

In fact, the gates to the grandstand had to be closed 15 minutes prior to her set due to the SRO crowd. Bill Magann with Variety Attractions said, “Kellie Pickler had a capacity crowd at Albert Lea, MN last night. Largest in my 34 years here!” In the fair’s 126 years of existence, Pickler’s show had the highest grossing box office receipts in its history.”

KKH…You know darn well that Kellie fans are the ones that talk bad about Carrie and other artists. The things that you all do is exactly what you accuse Carrie fans and others of doing. I think alot of the hate is actually from Kellie fans posing as Carrie fans because you are so jealous of any artist that is more successful than Kellie. Carrie fans are not jealous of anything Kellie does. Why would they be? She is not a threat to Carrie at all. You think by trying to make people think bad about Carrie fans, that it will make Kellie look better. You are not fooling anyone with your accusations. I think you need to remember Carrie won AI…not Kellie. Instead of talking about Kellie..you take every opportunity to run down Carrie. That is why alot of people don’t support Kellie…because of her fans like you! But then maybe you really don’t care since Taylor is really your girl!
Oh and btw, Reba sent Carrie a beautiful crystal vase when she won Entertainer of the Year so I would say Reba and Carrie are just fine!

I’m sure everyone can read the blogs. When a blog is added with the name of Taylor or Kellie, You Carrie fan’s are the first to jump on it, with your hate. And I’m sure no one is blind to that fact. And yes you fan’s are jealous, if anyone take just a grain of attention away from Carrie, You fan’s start with the hate. And Taylor and Kellie happen to be the one’s doing it right now. Saying Kellie fan’s sign in as Carrie fan’s to hate on Kellie is the dumbest thing I ever heard of, nice try though. I may not be a fan of Carrie’s at this time. But I don’t have to go around hating on the Girl. Or anyone else for that matter. I have better things to do. Like enjoy the music of not only my favorite. But all the wonderful artist out there. And be thankful, that I’m able to choose between so many different artist. And not have to just listen to one.. If you want to stay in the sandbox and play go right ahead. But I’m stepping out of it. People don’t need us to tell them who to like or dislike, They are big enough to choose on their own.. And even if some are easy turned away to an artist by the mind games of a few hater’s. The music will always brings them back :)
