Carrie Underwood's Military Visit Makes Me Proud

Posted: August 17th, 2009 at 3:06 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Carrie UnderwoodCarrie Underwood makes me proud. Proud to be an American. And even more, just proud to be a country fan. She performed on Friday (Aug. 14) at a big "Salute to the Troops" thing at the Fort Campbell base (which is somehow located in both Tennessee and Kentucky). Underwood, along with Jake Owen, John Rich and Hank Williams Jr., sang for a crowd of more that 75,000 soldiers, veterans and their families, plus a general public crowd. Even better, the event was free. "I got to go to Iraq a couple years ago, and that was definitely an eye opening experience. It's kind of like any opportunity that comes up that works with everything that I am doing -- good thing to do," said Underwood. Like the song says, she truly is an All-American Girl.

    Seriously? This is news?

Artists in all genres have been playing music for the troops for years. The other artists mentioned in the story (who are doing the exact same thing as CU, yet apparently aren’t evoking a similar level of pride) have all done this before. Yet, Carrie Underwood makes you so proud. Odd.

Did all these acts perform solo or are you disrespecting all the other musicians, soundcrew, techs, and roadies again? No ones effort was more important than anyone else’s. A great thing was done by everyone. Show some respect.

ALL the artists that entertain our men and women in uniform makes me proud that they GIVE their time and talent to bring enjoyment to our brave soldiers that risk their lives for us. I am proud of Carrie that she gave her time and talent to do this. A lot of artists take cameras with them and release them to GAC or other sources for publicity. Carrie did not do this. She really is a true girl next door ‘All American Girl”. Can’t wait for her new album November 3rd.

We all should give a little back to our country like these men and women do. Because if it was not for our troops we wouldn’t be enjoying our freedom to speak our options, attend concerts and special events like this together as one for example.

saluting the troops is so important - they are so brave and their families too for the endless waiting and supporting. True Americans, folks, deserving of our praise! Like Carrie said when she was in Iraq and a soldier ask her to sign his helmet - she said “I should be getting your autograph”

i love carrie underwood i think she is an amazing person she seems so nice, sweet and down to earth and humble and shes very appreciative of where she is today i admire people who are successfull and talented yet they still keep their gratitude and they stay who they are, they have the “im so lucky to be blessed” kind of attitudes…i respect her and every artist who gives their time to our soldiers sometimes we forget because were here in the U.S. im guilty of it unfortunately life is busy but its a nice reminder to all of us that we should pray for them and not worry about the “so small” things in life because others are sacrificing their lives right now,…and we need to do things like this for them its our way of saying “thaank you”…carrie and all the other people who sang and donated their time deserve a thank you as well for making our soldiers feel special…i take these things to the heart because i have a best friend who is like a brother to me serving in the military and im so gratedful to these artists who volunteer their time!!….sending all my love and prayers to our brave men and women serving in our military God bless them and their families!! :)

Carrie is absolutely amazing. She is my favorite singer and my ultimate role model and I just love that she cab take the time to honor our American troops. All the other artists that take part in this are incredible as well. But the people that are the most incredible is the ones that they’re honoring: the troops. My dad was in the Navy so it means a lot to me when people support the troops, because I grew up in a military style household and I was always reminded of the importance of our American soldiers. Thank you Carrie and everyone else who participated in this. I love you Carrie!! And I can’t wait until your new album on Nov. 3 and that new single…. SOON!!!!!

Okay really..Carrie got “top billing” because she is the reigning entertainer of the year. I am sure if one of the other singers had that title..they would have had “top” billing. Love Carrie..looking forward to a new cd and maybe a new single from her current cd. She has plenty of songs with the firepower to be a released single.

it’s not that we dont appreciate other artists who have given their time in the past and present to our troops i understand carrie isnt the first to do this and many have done this even before carrie was born,so YES of course they are appreciated and also deserve to be praised and im sure if this was a blog targeting them im sure carrie wouldnt be acknowledged, their is absolutely no intentional disrespect to these other great people who are involved thats not what the carrie fans are trying to do, this is a story and it involves carrie so from a fans point of view we are going to boast about our idol i guess we just love carrie for what she stands for and we are proud that she has joined other great artist who have also participated in something that is so important, were just proud fans and we love carrie and we love to acknowledge the good things she does not only as a singer but as a person is this a such a crime? everyone who does this is of course great and deserves to be acknowledged but most of us here are fans we love to talk carrie :) their is no disrespect intended…anything done for the benefit of our troops is highly appreciated!!

Carrie has a new CD coming out which she did not mention.
She is very humble and let the night be all about the heroes. Unlike some artists that just plug away any chance they get like Billy Ray Cyrus. Ugh.

Yes Carrie is humble and genuinely appreciative of our troops. She has a phenomenal voice and doesn’t need the uber promotion. Her talent speaks for itself, and her humility is tops. Others should take notice and learn from her amazing attitude of generosity. I take generosity over pranks any day of the week.

As a Vietnam Vet I remember seeing stars like Ann-Margret & Nancy Sinatra visit Tan Son Nhut Airbase near Saigon and how great it made me feel. I’m glad to see that artists like Carrie, Jake, John & Hank are continuing that tradition.

This was such a great event to be a part of and I’m so proud of Carrie for doing this. Such a great way to thank our troops and their families for the sacrifices they make to keep us all safe. Kudos to all the artists that took part in this. I am a big fan of Carrie’s and think the title All American Girl is very fitting. She makes me proud to be a fan every day because of the wonderful person she is even more so than her amazing talent.
