Brooks & Dunn Breaking Up?

Posted: August 11th, 2009 at 12:30 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Brooks & DunnNot in my mind, anyway. Even though there's an official announcement on their site, and my editors have picked up the story, I am not listening to anything about this alleged breakup of Brooks & Dunn. I'm just going to cover my ears and pretend it's not happening. Luckily, their music will endure whether they formally exist as a duo or not. And even this week, their "Honky Tonk Stomp" song had the most adds on country radio. So even though they are saying that after 20 years that they've agreed to call it a day, my advice to big-time fans like me is just to feign ignorance, put on one of your many Brooks & Dunn albums and make all the bad news fade into the background. And when their next greatest hits package comes out on Sept. 8, treasure it.

Brooks & Dunn’s music is incredible. I wish they would rethink this. If they have a comeback tour in a few years, I think they should get Brett Favre to be their drummer … he’s the king of comebacks.

how ridiculous break up but yet tour and a cd!!! most groups or dou’s DO A C.D THEN TOUR.. THEN GO THEIR SEPERATE WAYS. PLAY ANY OF THEIR C.D’S BACKWORDS AND IT WILL SAY GIVE US A FEW YEARS AND WILL COME FOR YOUR MONEY WHEN WE’RE BROKE WITH ANOTHER C.D AND TOUR

Great post, Alison. I am so devastated! Brooks and Dunn are one of the greatest bands of all time, and I don’t know what I’m going to do knowing that I can’t just wait for another album of near perfection!

OK - I’m not a cowboy - nor have I ever lived near a red dirt road, but Brooks and Dunn were something special to me. Their music totally connected. I can honestly say that I’m happiest when I’m listening to their music.

    It’s sad news indeed.

    I think it’s great news.
I like B&D but enough is enough. If their hearts are not in it anymore, what’s the point of putting out new product by formula.

Ronnie Dunn is one of the greatest country singers of all time and he’s entitled to make some new music on his own terms without being shackled to B&D. Simon didn’t stay with Garfunkel for his whole career.

Gimme a break. One partner sings the hits. The other sings the songs no one downloads or listens to.

    See ‘ya Kix.

This is so sad.. I been to many many B&D concerts over the years, As many as 15 in one year, NO OTHER DUO will ever reach the heights. Brooks & Dunn have, And to say their hearts weren’t in it any more.WRONG I just saw them a couple of weeks ago they were awesome Put on one heck of a show, I plan on getting to as many of the last tour dates as I can

Kix and Ronnie, if you read this, please rethink the breakup. You are the greatest country duo ever and your fans still want more. To break up when you are still on top is crazy. You will certainly be missed. Thank you for doing one more tour so we can say good-bye.

I will miss Kix & Ronnie so much! I have only seen them one time and that was when they did the Neyland Stadium show with Kenny Chesney in Knoxville, TN six years ago, but they were awesome that night! (smiles)

I have so many favorites from them:

    Ronnie
    “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” (dance copy)
    “I’ll Never Forgive My Heart”
    “My Maria” (dance copy)
“I Ain’t Singing That Song No More”
    “Honky Tonk Truth”
    “Husbands And Wives”
    “How Long Gone”
    “Hurt Train”
    “Lucky Me, Lonely You”
“You Can’t Take the Honky Tonk Out of the Girl”
    “That’s What Its All About”
“Its Getting Better All The Time”
    “Believe”
    “Hillbilly Deluxe”
    “God Must Be Busy”

    Kix
“You’re Going To Miss Me When I’m Gone”
“Mama Don’t Get Dressed Up For Nothing”
    “Why Would I Say Goodbye”
    “South of Santa Fe”
    “Temptation #9″
    “Can’t Stop My Heart”
    “Don’t Look Back Now”
    “Go West”
    “When She’s Gone, She’s Gone”
    “Deny, Deny, Deny”
    “I Fall”
    “What Kind of Love”
    “The Best of My Love”
    “Rough Boy”
    “Sunday Money”

So with them gone, the duo competition will be between Montgomery Gentry and Sugarland I guess. MG gets my vote. (smiles)

God bless you and them and B&D and Kenny always!!!

    Holly

P.S. Oh and one more thing, to me, Kix was not in the lead enough. (smiles)

Some of the best music Ronnnie ever wrote was before he teamed up with Kix. Good luck to you Both.

I, too, will miss B&D as a duo . . . however, it sounds like Ronnie will continue with the music and his artistry with words and music will not leave us disappointed. I think he can and will be successful with a band or another partner (eventhough I have enjoyed Kix all these years). Since Kix is involved with the Winery business and other interests I can understand how he wants to also enjoy other elements of life away from touring and those types of commitments. Both are to be commended for making the right decision for themselves and I look forward to seeing them in 2010 on the road.

What a crying shame for them to break up, but I noticed tonight on the country music awards that they gotno where near each other like stayed away from each other. It really looked strange to me. I love both of them and wish them all the luck in what ever they chose to do…just be happy as they have made us fans happy for many years.

I do covers of them with my band and they still get a lot of attention by my fans their music will never die but I agree with Luckyoldsun it’s time for him to go on his own he is the voice of the band and he probably wants to test the waters as a soloist. I don’t blame him for leaving.
