Paula Abdul Is Not Right for This Competition

Posted: August 5th, 2009 at 2:52 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Paula AbdulThat's what she always said to the contestants on American Idol. She'd essentially be voting "no," but she'd do so gently, by finding some good in their vocal talent and then just adding that they weren't right for Idol. And now that she's decided to leave the show after eight seasons, who will take over that silver-lining role? No one. No one will ever be able to do what Abdul did, which was bring some humanity to the cruelest part of the show -- the auditions. Her Tweets from last night (Aug. 4) said, "With sadness in my heart, I've decided not to return to Idol. I'll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from Day 1 become an international phenomenon." She had her quirks, I realize. But I will miss her positive outlook and her refusal to be just another critical voice at the judges' table.

I’m sorry for the future contestants. Paula is a great artist who relates to the performers, and whose advice is always constructive and helpful. She is very knowledgeable, and respectful, of music in all genres. Show won’t be the same without her. Really, really sorry she will not be back.

C’mon, she’s not coming back because she wasn’t offered the BIG bucks the others were getting. She should be happy she was getting paid as much as she was. I like IDOL, but they’re ALL paid WAY too much.

I for one am sorry to see her go. I agree w/CarrieTx - she brought humanity to the show. Money I’m sure was definitely a part of why she’s leaving and I don’t blame her for leaving. Why should she be paid that much less? They are all definitely overpaid for sure. American Idol has lost me as a viewer. I was getting bored with it anyway.

I’ve never watched American Idol so I’m not caught up in any of this hype.
