Scotty Kormos Is the Back Beat of The Singing Bee
If you've watched The Singing Bee on CMT, you know that funny girl Melissa Peterman takes the show to a whole other level. Every word that comes out of her mouth cracks me up. Especially when she's hitting on -- I mean, playfully bantering with -- the drummer, Scotty Kormos. But Peterman has made it clear that he's more than just a nice pair of sticks. She's even taken to telling herself, out loud, "Enough flirting with the drummer, Melissa." And one time she told Kormos, on the air, that she'd gotten a memo from CMT and that they would prefer it if he'd play with his shirt off.
When he was about 10 years old, he just loved beating on stuff. "I had a friend in school who was a good drummer, and he wanted to learn to ride my dirt bike. So we bartered and taught each other," he remembers. He was so passionate about playing that his mom had one steadfast rule: No drums until his homework and chores were done. And to pay for new drums, he had to earn his own money. Thus, his paper route, back in the day when little boys still delivered the newspaper from their bikes. In Cleveland. In the snow.
Fast forward to April 2009 when Kormos had earned a reputation as a seasoned player. He got The Singing Bee job and had to quickly learn the beat of all kinds of country music. "We do Paisley, Atkins, Garth, Cyrus, Keith, and even dip into some Cash sometimes," he told me. Contestants must know the lyrics to the songs, most of which are country tunes, or else they are eliminated.
If I wasn't working for CMT, I'd love to be on the show. Not only do I think I could out-lyric every one there, but I'd love to see the chemistry between Peterman and Kormos play out live.

being a drummer and knowing scotty ive always tried to keep up with whatever he’s doing and when i heard that he was going to be in the house band on the singing bee i knew i had to start watching it. he’s a fantastic player and singer as well and adds much to the show. all in all, he’s a great drummer playing on a great show!

I love singing bee however, I believe they need new back up singers. Some of the singers that start the songs off for the contestants are not that good. I think even some of the contestants sing better then them.

I bet it is much harder for the singers than anyone thinks. If you read some of the discussions they talk about the songs not being in the best key for them. Plus they are reading the lyrics off of the tele-prompter due to the amount of material. What the public does not know is that all these shows were filmed in 4.5 days. A monumental task for all in The Bee Hive. I also noticed when Melissa is talking while the band is playing she talks a lot louder, which would indicate to me that it’s probably super loud in there and if you can’t hear yourself good, it’s tough to sing. It’s a game show folks, not American Idol. It’s also about the contestants:-)

Ok, so I was so upset when this show got cancelled off the NBC, but was sooooo excited to see that CMT had picked it up and added a ton of Country Music!!! My favorite part is watching to see what Melissa will say to Scotty on each episode! Scotty is soooooooooooooo hot!!!!!!!!!!!! He is a fantastic drummer and I just don’t know if I could do without him on the show. I love STEVE DORFF too! My personal friends, I think he does a wonderful job…But Scotty is reason I watch!!!!!!

I just wanted to say, I hope we get to see more Scotty, more Jared and basically more of the Beehive Band! They are all awesome. Scotty and Jared are my favs and I hope we get to see more of them next season. It’s a shame Scotty is hidden behind the drums so far up on stage. He does such an awesome job at Drums, but I want to see him closer down to the stage, and of course see more of him.
The Singing Bee is awesome and one of my favorite shows! I watch it without fail every Friday night, on top of the fact, whenever there is a rerun on, I watch it. I have most of the episodes memorized now because I’ve watched them so much. I never get tired of seeing the Bee! :D Keep it up y’all! Just please give us more Scotty, and more Jared!

I think it’s great,that with all the success Scotty has earned, he is still the same Scotty. He didnt let it go to his head, like most would. He remembers where he came from!!
