Flatts, Brad and Miranda Land With New Music Videos
In new videos screened for the CMT New Music Video Evaluation Team last week, Brad Paisley returns with some live action from a CMT show, Rascal Flatts devise a new approach to not singing in a video and Miranda Lambert shows a side of her you've never seen. And we have videos from two newcomers -- David Nail (his debut) and Love and Theft.
Artist: Brad Paisley
Video: "American Saturday Night"
Excerpt from CMT Invitation Only
Director: Alan Carter
Brad Paisley rips it up with this live version of the title cut from his new album. It's one of many showcases of Paisley's guitar-slinging wizardry on his new CD, American Saturday Night. (Invitation Only: Brad Paisley airs on CMT on Aug. 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.)
Panelists' comments: "Some pretty intense guitar work going on there." "This would be so much better, if he really was able to play guitar." "Hard to top this."
Artist: Rascal Flatts
Video: "Summer Nights"
Producer: Shaun Silva
The guys in Flatts spend the early part of this video figuring out how they can avoid actually appearing in the video. And they do manage to come up with a pretty workable solution.
Panelists' comments: "Pretty cute." "They were totally off duty there, in their ball caps. They look like it's their day off" "The audience looks like they really got into it."
Artist: Miranda Lambert
Video: "Dead Flowers"
Director: Randee St. Nicholas
With a dreamy montage opening, Miranda Lambert ventures into a deadly-serious video with a message unlike those of the raucous don't-mess-with-me independent woman in many of her earlier works. Featured car: a classic GTO.
Panelists' comments: "Wow, that's a song all about exhaustion." "It's gorgeous, but it's not really a summer song, now is it?" "I like it. But, at first, I didn't recognize her."
Artist: Love and Theft
Video: "Runaway"
Director: Kristin Barlowe
The members of Love and Theft engage in some urban driving and graffiti-spraying in this video. It ends up by running everything backwards. Featured car: a new Mustang.
Panelists' comments: "It looks good." "Hard for me to tell who's singing lead here. I can't tell them apart." "Isn't one of them a guy that Taylor mentions in one of her songs?" "I think it's Stephen [Barker Liles]."
Artist: David Nail
Video: "Red Light"
Director: Roman White
In this debut video, David Nail drives around town singing this sad song about breakup and goodbye. The woman he's parting from in the video is actually his wife, Catharine. Featured car: a Mercedes convertible.
Panelists' comments: "I'll bet you every woman in this room loves him." [Note: A quick poll proved that that was correct.] "Should you really be driving a Mercedes in a country video, instead of a pickup truck?"
Consensus: Brad Paisley's "American Saturday Night" and Rascal Flatts' "Summer Nights" debuted in hot shot rotation on CMT on Monday (July 20). Miranda Lambert's "Dead Flowers" debuted in medium rotation on Monday. Luke Bryan's "Doin' My Thing" "Do I" moved from the hold file to heavy rotation on Monday.

Zelma says:
“It’s gorgeous, but it’s not really a summer song, now is it?”
Why do songs have to be seasonal? Just because a song is released in the summer doesn’t mean people will only listen to it in the summer. Maybe this is what’s wrong with music today, songs are only good enough to stick around for 3 months. And by the way this song is good enough to be around a lot longer than that.
And also, that isn’t David Nail’s debut video and Luke Bryan’s single is called “Do I”
Courtney says:
Zelma, you’re right, this is not David Nail’s debut. He did a video for “I’m About to Come Alive.” I agree with you about Miranda’s video. I love the song and I think the video compliments it well.
Jess says:
I love Miranda’s new video! It’s a great song
Debbie W. says:
Love, love, love, Miranda’s new video….and the song is awesome! Miranda is beautiful in the video!
Dan Poltrictzky says:
Why does something have to be seasonal? What the hell is that? Who Cares? Hopefullu, they’ll put Miranda’s video in Heavy Rotation or Hot Shot Rotation? Like Joey and Rory say, “Play the Song” , “Play the Video”!!!
observer says:
Where I am from flowers grow spring to fall….lets see my tulips are here & gone along with crocuses & many others. I do not see the point in seasonal songs…I have always hated “All Summer Long” in the winter as much as I have hated it in the summmer!
Fake Wesley Rose says:
It’s nice to see young men still singin’ about love. Keeps hope alive in our very hearts
Redmaz says:
It’s common knowledge cmt is the laughing stock of the music industry.
Vicki says:
I love Miranda’s and David Nails. That is a great song. Regardless if it’s his first one or not, I like it.
Play them all CMT.
Chet Flippo says:
Zelma, and others, you’re right about David Nail and Luke Bryan. The first was a stupid mistake; the second was the computer’s fault. Thanks for all your input.
Ham says:
Summer Nights has the single most inane lyric line I have ever heard in any song….. “ya’ll keep doing ya’ll’s thing”…. ugggg no poetry there.
Holly says:
“This would be so much better, if he really was able to play guitar.”
I sincerely hope this was a statement dripping in sarcasm.
I love all the videos, particularly Miranda Lambert’s! I’m really growing to absolutely adore her music, so it should be a hit for her for sure! And I really, really like David Nail’s song. I can’t stop listening to it.
Dan Poltrictzky says:
Hey Holly,
You should go check out Mirandalambert.com and become a Ran Fan, It’s an awesome Fan club and the best to be a part of.
Annie says:
I really think it sucks big time because I live in Québec and I cannot watch the videos!
Dan Poltrictzky says:
What About YouTube.com for the videos?
Sara says:
