Zac Brown Band, John Rich, Sarah Buxton Enliven New Music Videos

Posted: July 10th, 2009 at 2:35 pm  |  By: Chet Flippo

In three new videos screened for the CMT New Music Video Evaluation Team this week, the Zac Brown Band head for the beach, John Rich pays musical tribute to his grandfather and other war veterans and Sarah Buxton looks out her window to see what there is to see.

Artist: Zac Brown Band
Video: "Toes"
Director: Darren Duane

Zac and the band are beach-bound in this fairly goofy story of a lottery ticket and what it means for one sort-of lucky winner. Lots of sight gags here. The song title is fairly obvious.

Panelists' comments: "I love the dream trip to Mexico for 50 bucks." "What was bleeped there?" "Something about a big fat one." "That's a fun video."

Artist: John Rich
Excerpt from Studio 330 Sessions
Video: "The Good Lord and the Man"
Producer: Ellie Chandler

John Rich performs a serious, heartfelt tribute to his grandfather, who Rich says earned six Purple Hearts in World War II. Rich is joined in this musical salute in CMT's Studio 330 by several veterans.

Panelists' comments: "Wow." "They really did a good job of making that not look like another 330 shoot." "Yeah, a lot of the outside shots were very effective."

Artist: Sarah Buxton
Video: "Outside My Window"
Director: Mark Hudson

Sarah Buxton gazes outside her window and then heads out in a light-hearted summer romp that borders on the psychedelic. Two of her co-writers on this song who are also artists, Victoria Shaw and Gary Burr, make cameo appearances in the video.

Panelists' comments: "That fits her personality completely." "She's got this bubbly little thing about her." "I really like the rainbow goatee."

Zac Brown Band's "Toes" has its debut in hot shot rotation on CMT on Monday (July 13). John Rich's "The Good Lord and the Man" debuts in medium rotation on Tuesday (July 14).

Zac Brown Band is hilarious, Sarah is so sweet almost too sweet that perhaps the vast majority won’t get it.

OMG! How HOT that Hanson is in Sarah Buxton’s new video! I wish her label would stop playing with us fans and just release her album already and then promote it! Not this release one song every few months and then nothing happens crap. If their waiting for a radio hit, all I can say is GOOD LUCK, because radio plays nothing good these days.

Radio plays nothing good these days? You must be listening to something different than me, cause I find all kinds of great stuff to listen to. But then again, I stream independent stations that play Roots genres of Country music.

If you want to hear good music, don’t keep looking where you’re not going to find it.

I LOVED John Rich’s video! I saw it in the Studio 330 Sessions and thought it would make a great video. It’s a respectful tribute to the men and women who have sacrificed and are still sacrificing for us. Thanks for playing it!

Beautiful. Touching. John Rich knows where his freedom comes from and knows how to honor and respect those who died and those who still defended it today! Thank you.

I was really disappointed in Zac Brown’s new TOES video.
The song has been around for quite some time (I was listening to him nearly a year before he finally began to get some long-overdue exposure on CMT). So having heard it at least hundred times, you develope your own video in your head to go along with the words.
But I never envisioned it as a story about a bunch of good ol’boy, scraggly bearded, Daisy-Duke-shorts wearing, dying to show off their pot guts & “rassle” with each other rednecks!
The video could not end soon enough. And I love the song. That’s too bad.
The only part that was funny was Zac in the sombrero leading the mariachi band! That I liked.
The rest should be trashed and the video re-cut to identify with the overwhelming majority of country music fans that aren’t boneheaded hicks from the sticks.

What’s the matter with the story of a guy (or gal) sitting on a beautiful palm shaded beach with their toes in the sand and cold beer in their hand. Thinking back about the hassles it took to get through the airport to make it to the clear emerald water and white sand. Then show the good times he/she is having ‘down island’ drinking, dancing, singing or whatever with their new island friends with Jager. Then when the wallet ends up empty and they drag themselves reluctantly back to the airport… mounthing the words “I’ll be back!” to their island friends.
Or looking at a calendar saying: “same time next year” as everyone heads off in different directions. ????
duhhhh Why is that so hard?

GA BOY, I had the same initial reaction but after watching a few more times, I erased the video I had in my head and enjoyed the real one. This video is so funny and different that people will remember it and talk about it for a long time. A video like the one you described would be good although predictable and mainstream, maybe something like Kenny Chesney would do. ZBB’s a group of down to earth, fun loving guys and this video shows that. Love, Peace and Chicken Grease!
