Carrie Underwood, We Salute You for Saluting the Troops

Posted: July 9th, 2009 at 3:24 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Carrie UnderwoodThis makes me so proud -- that a country artist of this caliber would take the time to celebrate our troops with a special concert on Aug. 14. Carrie Underwood isn't touring much this summer because she's been prepping her new album, but this Salute to the Troops show is special. She's doing the show, along with John Rich, Rodney Atkins and Jake Owen, for the soldiers and families of Fort Campbell, Ky., during the Week of the Eagles event. "People just expect there to be a military, but they don't see faces and they don't know names," said Underwood. "It's very important to just go and raise awareness and bring some cheer to people who might not get it all the time, people who are stuck in another country, away from their family and friends and kids." The concerts are free and civilians are welcome.

Great the soldiers have this timeout to relax and enjoy their
family and their life for a while - being deployed must be super stressful - I certainly can’t begin to imagine - and kudos to all the country singers who give their time to entertain out troops and triple kudos to the troops who work so hard and put their lives on the line everyday for our freedom

thank you so much to carrie and all of the other artists who are supporting our troops. i love the quote by carrie btw. and to the people who said carrie’s only doing this bc she has an album coming out, her album comes out like 4 or 5 months after august so how would this concert support the album?? carrie’s a good person. u may not like her music, but its rude to try and disrespect her as a human being

Yea becca, that is just jealousy. Carrie has done this many times in the past, because she is that kind of person. She hasn’t always had “a new cd coming out”. That’s ridiculous. As far as McGraw, I doubt he has done any more than Toby Keith. Toby is the man who is always supporting the troops, not Tim.

I love Carrie, I’ve had the privilege to see her live. It’s great that ANY artist would take the time to support our troops, both here and abroad. Whether it’s Carrie, John, Jake, Darius, Tim, Toby, or Kellie, and let’s not forget Trace. They don’t do it to promote a new album. They do it because they are truly thankful for all we do for our county. I thank all those, past, present and future, peace time as well as “war” time, that are willing to serve our country, to defend that which we so many times take for granted. Hooah!!

Let’s not make this a competition as to who does more for the troops. ANY performer giving tribute is a good thing.

This is such a great event to be part of. I think the country artists are some of the most supportive of our troops. Thanks to Carrie and all the other artists who take the time to make a couple hours of our military personnel’s lives a little less stressful. I love how Carrie expressed her feelings about our military, their sacrifices and how important it is to give back to them. Thanks to all our military and their families for your sacrifices to protect us and keep us safe.

How sad doing an advertisement for other artists in a blog concerning this subject -I applaud Carrie - an artist that really wants to make a positive difference in people’s lives, not just complain about what’s happened in their own life or sing just to make money and feed their egos -

I’m sure the 2 day concert will be great !!!

  • Redmaz says:

“a country artists of this caliber”? What’s that supposed to mean? I think I know what you’re implying here, but I’ll give you a chance to explain first.

I also see once again you refused to mention all the musicians in these peoples band who are also celebrating our troops this way. How nice of you to pick and choose patriotism.

  • Kate says:

    Posted: July 12th, 2009 at 2:11 pm

If you think you know what she’s implying why does she need to explain it to you…..?

Carrie is listed as the ‘headliner’ for the 2-day concert..so I guess she’s the star with the bigger ’star’ status…

As much as you might not like it the entertainment business and media go with what is ‘hot’ not what ‘was’ hot once….doesn’t mean others are less talented or successful..

  • Redmaz says:

    Posted: July 12th, 2009 at 9:10 pm

I think you answered you own question, I would like her to explain it to me, because I’m only thinking about what she might be referring to. Don’t want to jump to any conclusions ya know, although….I could use the exercise.

Redmaz, why do you always feel the need to come on every post and say something? All we are trying to do is thank the many artists who support and give thanks to the wonderful troops who serve this country. It is disrespectful for one, and secondly, a country artist of this caliber? You are really questioning what that means? If you truly don’t realize what that means, than I will be surprised that you have never heard someone use the phrase “of that caliber,” for you seem to be a person that loves correcting people about even the slightest thing. You seem to have great knowledge that you love to share so, I am shocked that you don’t understand what that means.

Anyways, thank you to all the troops that are willing to give everything for everyone else.

Also, thank you to Carrie and the many other amazing people who take time out of their days to show their appreciation.

Hi sisofanarmyman, nice to hear from you. First of all I would like to say I don’t post on every blog. My problem here is the disrespect for all the musicans who entertain our troops, not just someone of “this caliber”. It’s an insult to all the musicians who do this. Alison makes it sound like only Pop acts should be recognized for their effort. Like these Pop act are more deserving of praise than anyone else. No mention of the musicians who back up these people of “this caliber”. This isn’t the first time alison has showed disrespect.

  • Robin says:

Besides - usually Alison is trying to make Carrie look bad. Give Alison her one shining moment of not trying to sell her favorite artist (Taylor Swift).
