Maybe Chad Kroeger Doesn't Really Want to Be a "Rockstar"

Posted: July 2nd, 2009 at 9:31 am  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

NickelbackYou know that Nickelback song, "Rockstar"? The one that has frontman Chad Kroeger screaming the litany of reasons why it would be cool to be one? He wants to dress his ass in the latest fashion, get a front door key to the Playboy mansion, have a brand new house on an episode of Cribs, a credit card that's got no limit, and he'll stay skinny 'cause he just won't eat. Well, that post-grunge rocker is one of the writers behind Tim McGraw's new single, "It's a Business Doing Pleasure With You." And true to his style, this one also has a litany. But this time, it's all the ways a girl is costing a guy so much: new spinners on her Escalade, more purses than Versace, going over to Gucci before going out for sushi. But when she turns her lovin' on, he just can't say no. What makes this song feel much more country than Nickelback is that McGraw seems to have brought his twang out of retirement. And it's so good, I think that if Chad Kroeger wanted to write more country songs, it would be a pleasure doing business with him.

From what I’ve heard of Pop Rock…it’s just as bad as Pop Country, and there doesn’t seem to be that much musical difference between the two. A little studio tweeking is all you need.

Tim’s new song is COUNTRY and many are saying this song could fit on his Everywhere album and he sounds like the 90’s Tim. The twang is front and center.

BTW looks like Tim wrote a song with Chris Daughtery(American Idol) that will be on the album.

i love the new song!!! i think it does sound like the 90s Tim, but from the lyrics you can so definitely tell that it is not. also i have a question for Janetgijoenurse. he really wrote a song with dauhgtry? thats cool. i know from an article from the 2008 grammys i read that chris daughtry wanted to work with tim.

Has Tim ever written a song, ever?

    He’s a joke.

Yes he has ever heard the awesome song If Your Reading This, My Little Girl, I’ve Got Friends That Do.

This joke that you call him since 1994 has sold 40 million albums and that is 9 million more than Toby and 12 million more than Kenny with LESS albumjs.

This joke that you call him will be the BEST SELLING artist of the DECADE at the end of the year, ahead of ALL country artists and NUMBER THREE in ALL of music with less albums than Toby, Kenny and more.

This joke that you call him even though he didn’t have his first big album till 1994 was the #38 best selling ARTIST in all if music in the 90’s and Toby and Kenny were NOT even in the Top 200.

This joke that you call him from Billboard last year(it was in their magazine in an article) is the BEST SELLING ARTIST IN ALL OF MUSIC for artist that have only been on the charts since the Soundscan era(May 1991). So for ALL artist that released their FIRST music after May 1991 and that includes Kenny and Toby, he has SOLD more FROM ANY genre of music and Tim didn’t chart till 1994.

So there’s your joke sold more than Kenny and Toby with LESS albums.

Also when you only count sales in the Soundscan era(May 1991 till now) Tim is #7 in all of music. Alan Jackson is #8, Shania is #10. The ONLY two artist above him is Garth and George.

BTW Toby is #27 and Kenny is #31.

Also Kenny’s bestselling album of his career is When The Sun Goes Down at 4,111,000 that is BIGGEST selling album.

Toby’s biggest selling is his Shock Y’all at 4,444,000 million.

Tim has FOUR albums that have sold more than Toby’s and Kenny’s

Not A Moment Too Soon certified at 6 milllion and has sold that many

2000 Greatest Hits has sold 6 million and is certified at 6 million. Kenny’s 2000 GH has sold 3,900,000 million.

Everywhere has sold 4,800,000 and LLYWD has sold 4,600,000.

Brilliant, two of my favourite singers together. Chad has such a haunting voice whether he is belting out the rock or making women drool singing the ballads. He is a beautiful man with a beautiful voice to go with it. Huge fan of Nickelback but listening to Chad’s vocals blow me away every time! In love? Since LEADER OF MEN, I have been madly in love with this man! Next time they come to the UK I am going to meet them! Can’t wait!

As a country radio personality for the past 14 years, I’ve witnessed the rise of Tim McGraw. Honestly, I haven’t been too impressed with his more recent works, but I agree with the folks above who love this song. The twang is back. Despite being co-written by a rocker, make no mistake that Tim’s version is a country rocker. I like it a little bit more every time we play it. I think that Tim is sometimes overlooked when it comes to the giants of country. A great new album this fall should do a lot to bring him back to the forefront!
