A Brush With Stardom at Colgate Country Showdown

Posted: June 29th, 2009 at 9:30 am  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Last weekend, I had the honor of judging a local part of the Colgate Country Showdown. This country music contest may not have the cache of Nashville Star or American Idol. But it's been around for almost 30 years and there's a $100,000 grand prize at the end, so I take it very seriously. As do the contestants. I have to say, after listening to all of them sing, I have one major observation: when judges say it's hard to choose a winner, they really mean it. There is just so much talent out there it's practically impossible to choose just one. We did, but it was a very tough call. So I just hope that all the contestants and hopefuls out there will keep singing, even if they have to find another stage, another contest or another route to their dreams.

If they didn’t win, they should of. Some agent could get beaucoup bucks signing up Back Country Roads. I can’t believe how fast their fan base is growing.
