Taylor Swift Reflects on Her 15ness

Posted: June 26th, 2009 at 11:04 am  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Taylor SwiftIn 58 days, my daughter will walk through the doors of high school for the very first time. So we are all about this whole @15 thing with Taylor Swift at their side. (The @15 program is a new teen-led social change platform underwritten by Best Buy.) She offers observations such as, "You think you're all alone when you're 15. You're not." It's comforting in a misery-loves-company kind of way. She also provides encouragement to teens who might think they are kind of different. "In the real world, if you have something about yourself that's different, you're lucky," she notes. "It's not a curse. Don't make high school everything. I'd like to think the best years of my life are still ahead of me." The whole site seems like a great way for teens to connect and be heard, and for parents to stay dialed in to what's really going on behind the rolling of the eyes and the slamming of bedroom doors.

…and you need to quit being so hateful, and stop spending your life waiting around for the next Taylor Swift blog so you can complain about her. An education might be a good idea for you. You should try it.

I spend a lot of time on the internet, and on many music blogs, music websites, youtube, artists pages etc. It’s what I do. This is a music blog isn’t it? What do you mean this teenage garbage has to go? Did you know there are teenage Americana/Roots artists too? Ruby Jane is 14 years old and is playing fiddle with Asleep at The Wheel and Willie Nelson. Have you heard her? This is just one example. Are you calling what she does garbage?

Hopefully some of Swift’s advice will help some kids. But its easier said than done: high school can be mean, and when 15 kids or so are taunting you and mocking you for being different it may be hard to remember that ““In the real world, if you have something about yourself that’s different, you’re lucky.”

After all, high school kids are in high school, not in the real world. And while I appreciate the cliches and agree they have some truth, a lot of teenagers need to know how to cope with high school as much as they need to be told that in 4 years things will get better.

What do you mean “bring on the 14 year old”? Did you check her out or not? It not that difficult. Does everything has to be done for you? There are many talented teenage musicians out there. Just because you don’t know about them doesn’t mean they don’t exist…and what is this “scene” you’re talking about?

CMT has a random system on the blogs. That’s why when sometmes you go to post something, it won’t show up. It hapens to people who post perfectly respectable posts, as well as those who don’t.

Taylor’s great and she writes relatable, good music. Leave her alone.

trink, it is very immature to call someone names. You are apparently a child and don’t realize how childish it is to call someone a baby just because they disagree with you. Shame on you, little girl.

Are you a lil boy trufan? That’s what your post sounds like, it reminded me of when I was in grade school and would pull on a lil girls braid to get her attention.

Are you wanting attention lil boy? LOL

trufanofcountry, you seem to be more “trufanofbashingtaylorswift”.

Considering the maturity that you display on this blog, it’s not a stretch to say you need to heed Taylor’s advice. You seem to be stuck in high school….

    LOL

I agree trufan. It sounds like a grammar school playground to call people babies. My 8 year old can relate to that, so it looks like you are right. trink is probably just a kid in school that doesn’t know better. and to noah and loko, how dare you? Trufan is talking to trink about her post, and is absolutely correct, and says nothing about taylor, so how can she be bashing taylor? You two should be ashamed for attacking her withouth cause.

Look, all of you. There is a LOT of different music and ALOT of different people in the world today. Some people are inspired by Taylor Swift and her music, like I am. Some aren’t and are inspired by different music. Music is meant to bring a sense of peace and inspiration, if you ask me. There’s no point in “bashing” music and other artists and people who like that kind of music. Just go listen to music you like… Seriously… but don’t forget we’re all real people here, including Taylor Swift. Its fine to stand up for what/who you believe in… but its not fine to insult. If you do that then you ARE acting like a baby….

  • luckyone says:

    Posted: June 27th, 2009 at 8:10 pm

Please tell me how a “baby” acts. A “baby” is someone who can’t accept the fact that someone disagrees with them. A “baby” is someone who thinks they are always right, regardless of the evidence against it. Actually ATSF, sounds like the swift fans are all babies to me.

  • Jake says:

    Posted: June 28th, 2009 at 12:10 am

    luckyone,

taylorswift fan has a point, what she just said should be a moto for everyone who discusses music, sure the baby part could be replaced with a different word, (you probably don’t want to hear what I’d substitute in for that that). I can somewhat understand why people bash artists(although it gets really repetitive and annoying hearing it from the same person day to day.) But I have seen a rare few bash the writer of the blog. Which, to me, is crossing the line too far. If you don’t like what the person blogs about, DONT READ. Don’t keep bashing them, or if anything just post politely that you disagree with the person.

  • luckyone says:

    Posted: June 28th, 2009 at 8:38 am

Jake, please define “bash”. Is it an opinion you disagree with? NO. Is it a fact you don’t want to hear? NO. Is is calling the artist names, using vularity? YES. I see none of that.

    June 17, 2009 - Wednesday
    CMT AWARD SHOW
    Current mood: ashamed
Yes i have to admit i watched the show last night!
What a bunch of pop rock crap! Where the hell was the country music?

Kid Rock, Def Leppard, Goo Goo Dolls etc; has no place being on a country music show!
Today’s country is pop rock, not country!

Sugarland? What a bunch of crap that was!! They started out country and now have conformed to the pop rock world and think they will make everybody like them! Sorry but it sucks!!! “Love Shack” are you kidding me???????

Talor Swift is good at what she does but sang off key and really only appeals to kids!
She should go pop rock because the music sounds the same! All the songs sound just alike and that’s because of the punk pop rock producer’s in Nashville!

Kieth Urban as well sang off key and also is nothing but pop rock!! Yea, i’m an expert because i have played music 38 years and i’m only 49!! Been on the big stage and so on!! You would think at his level he could at least sing on key live! Amazing what a studio can do to help that!!!!

Joey& Rory? Are you kidding me! What a bunch of crap that was and they had to be bleeped becuase of the word hoe!!! Plus the song sucks!!! “You can duet” right!! You can duet somewhere else!!!!

Trace Atkins? Finally a country singer singing on key and he at least had a steel player! What a concept! A steel player being used to play country! Nashville should try it!!!

It sucks that you can’t watch a country show and hear real country music! Where is the real country for the adults these days? It’s gone to Texas!! Gene Watson has a new CD out called “In A Perfect World” and he has stayed true to country! Why are the so called punk pop rock country stations not playing it?? Because they suck just like the pop rock producers in Nashville!

The artist coming out today do not have the impact that Conway had and the staying power! Why? Because the labels are trying to make the fast buck and drop them as fast as the CD sales go down! They do not stay with the artist!

Take Little Big Town! The other label popped Gloriana out there and its funny how much they look alike! Blonde Girl and Guy! Brunette Girl and Guy! Can’t you guys see it! Its a spin off because they were selling CD’s so they stuck a look alike out there to try to get some of the market! If they don’t sell CD’s they are gone!

It all sucks! Don’t everyone know that the reality shows make millions on texting the vote!! Then you end up with the big winner that is labeled as the contest winner!!
The one that should of won didn’t! You know why? Because they will release a CD because he lost the people will buy it!
Trash is what it all is!!

I’ll say again, yes i know what i’m talking about because i have played rock, country, blue grass and even jazz all my life! 38 years of it!!!

There needs to be a line drawn in the sand! Country is country and pop rock is pop rock!!!!!!!

    thx

To ken martin, that’s quite the rant you have going on there. I really hope you stop back by this blog, because I have a lot of questions and comments for you. So without going into detail until you return, I’ll just say you made a couple good points, but overall I feel you are way out of touch with today’s music scene. I hope you stop back by so we can discuss/debate this issue. Thanks

Interesting comments. Especially like your appreciation for the great Gene Watson. The USA TOday said he’s the most underrated singer in country music so at least the press get his talent. Shame the people driving the radio bus don’t understand real country music anymore.

    luckyone,

Just look at some of your posts and alot of redmaz’s. Sure you may raise some points but not in a healthy way. Look how you said that swift fans are all babies to you. By saying that you are just trying to get someone going(and I’m saying this not because I am a taylor swift fan, because I can understand a lot of people’s points when they say they don’t like her, but because it’s just rude to say.)

I really hope that their comes a day when everyone can have a healthy debabte on some of these blogs without having to tick of somebody.

Redmaz said: “What do you mean this teenage garbage has to go? Did you know there are teenage Americana/Roots artists too? Ruby Jane is 14 years old and is playing fiddle with Asleep at The Wheel and Willie Nelson.”

I have to honestly say that I’ve never heard Ruby Jane play. Does she just play fiddle or does she sing too?

First of all, I have a feeling that if she does sing that she can sing on-key which is something that Taylor cannot do. The only way Taylor can sound good is if her voice is digitally enhanced. Second, if she is playing with people like Asleep at The Wheel and Willie Nelson then I’ll bet that she doesn’t play teenage love songs like Taylor (which is probably what Redmaz means by “teenage garbage”).

Jake, you need to go back and read the entire blog. Trink was the “baby” remark. I replied that her comment sounded like something a youngster would say, and it does. I’m a 53 year old woman and don’t need a child telling me to “shut up and quit acting like a baby”. She is rude and out of line, and I simply put her in her place, like a good adult should do to disrespectful children.

  • Jake says:

    Posted: June 30th, 2009 at 11:27 am

^I understand that she made the baby remark, but maybe you should re-read because her post was not rude. And that whole adult discipling a child thing is not a very good excuse, you’re not this persons parent. It doesn’t matter what age any of us on this blog are, everyone should be treated with equal respect.

  • luckyone says:

    Posted: June 30th, 2009 at 8:01 pm

Posters need to respect the opposing opinions. Not everyone is in love with Taylor. In fact, quite the contrary. The non fans are treated far worse than Taylor ever has been

  • Jake says:

    Posted: July 1st, 2009 at 10:20 am

^I have just said that. I do respect your opinions, and in your last posts you haven’t been overly rude to me when we have been discussing this, but I’m mainly talking about your post saying sounds like all taylor swift fans are babies. That’s a rude and sterotypical way to reply back to what ATSF said.

I just want to clarify again that nonfans of Taylor shouldn’t be treated badly because they don’t like her, because, trust me, I can see why you don’t. Her music is targeted at a younger demographic and has been given the most attention in the country world right know, which can sometimes feel like they are shoving her down your throat. But I’m just saying we can have a grown-up debate without having to always put another person down.
