I Loved the Hell Out of Dinner With Joey & Rory

Posted: June 25th, 2009 at 4:18 pm  |  By: Whitney Self

Joey & RoryRory Feek, of married duo Joey & Rory, saw my husband and me sitting at a back corner table at the 1808 Grille in Nashville. He walked up to our table holding his guitar that read, "We Miss Country Music." In the back of my mind all I could think was, "Me too, me too." He smiled at us and asked, "What would you like to hear?" Pleasantly surprised, I grinned and answered back, "'Loved the Hell,' please."

This was our first time at the 1808 Grille, the restaurant inside the Hutton Hotel. My whole reason for going was because I had heard Joey & Rory would be celebrity chefs that evening. (Joey Feek co-owns Marcy Jo's Mealhouse in Pottsville, Tenn.)

I was hoping they would sing, too, so you can imagine how delighted I was when the two exclusively serenaded us with "Loved the Hell." What's more, the couple has this way about them that just makes you feel special, like you've just been invited into their home for dinner. And in a way, they did that too. My husband and I later dined on a delicious homemade meal of meatloaf and mashed potatoes, garnished with green beans, carrots and "Elvis Cake" -- a meal prepared in part by Joey herself.

Truth is, last night (June 24) was one of my favorite evenings spent in Nashville. Joey & Rory were genuine, gracious and exceptionally charismatic. They could have easily ignored that table in the corner but they didn't. That's one more reason to love the hell out of them.

These two, while maybe not destined for a big future, are great for the genre. It (almost) makes me not despise CMT’s “talent search” shows, which are, in general, terrible. But these two are great, in that they are genuine and their marriage comes first, and music second.

I hope the fame doesn’t ruin them as it has many other high-profile couples.

I love Joey + Rory and their exceptional CD. They are so different than what is currently played on country radio-I do hope they don’t slip through the cracks!

I have a question. You say this person came up to your table with a guitar that said “We Miss Country Music”, and in the back of your mind all you could think was…”Me too, me too”. Since that was your thought at the moment…you must know what this is in reference to, and/or what the significance of this statement is. Could you explain to me? Thanks

You are one negative dude Redmaz. I haven’t seen a blog where you write anything positive. I would assume the part about missing country music is a reference to the current state of pop music being labeled country. Since you are so smart and spend your entire life on the internet, please oh wise one explain to us the refeerence and/or significance of this statement.

How convienent of you to pick and choose my post replies to fit your own personal needs. “pop music being labeled as country”? What does that mean? Pop music is not an individual genre of music, so your statement makes no sense. As far as “We Miss Country Music”…I’m not sure what these people mean by it. That’s why I asked. However…if it means the same thing to them as it does to you, then they don’t know what they’re talking about either. It could mean something completely different to them though. Like maybe they are being forced in some way not to listen to Country Music. Maybe they’re being told by someone who controls them or has authority over them that they can’t listen to Country Music anymore.

The wife is decent looking but the husband looks like a rube.

I too miss country music. Joey & Rory are the newest, refreshing couple to come to country music…
I saw them here in CA. last April. They were great, just Joey, Rory and the acoustic guitar; they didn’t need anything more…The way Joey sings “Free Bird” is great…I am learning the lyrics and Joey’s arrangement, so that my husband (who plays acoustic guitar) can do the song hopefully as close to what J&R do.
Joey, Rory…”keep on keepin on”. As “Momma Judd” said…don’t change a thing.
Hope to see you again soon.

Oh & one more thing…if you don’t like, or can’t stand Joey & Rory…then don’t listen to them…no one is forcing you to listen to them!!
