Keith Urban Among Four Completely Different Video Treatments
Four wildly different new music are among the latest to hit the screening room for the CMT New Video Evaluation Team. Keith Urban walks an urban dreamscape, Reba hits the sheets, Megan Mullins hits the road and Cledus T. Judd weeps for Garth in a karaoke bar.
Artist: Keith Urban
Video: "Kiss a Girl"
Director: Chris Hicky
Keith Urban's newest video begins with stylized animated bird shapes flying above a stylized cartoon cityscape. He and his band perform the song on a rooftop looking out on the city.
Panelist's Comments: "Hot shot or what?" "Cool. A very happy video." "I love the animation, but the band scenes look like they just put a film over the scene."
Artist: Reba McEntire
Video: "Strange"
Director: Trey Fanjoy
Reba delivers another dramatic tour-de-force in this emotional drama that begins in her fluffy bed with many boxes of chocolates and even more boxes of Kleenex.
Panelists' comments: "Reba looks great." "I love the song. I'll bet it sounds great on radio." "She is definitely an actress at heart."
Artist: Megan Mullins
Video: "Long Past Gone"
Director: Curt Aponovich
Megan Mullins, a graduate of her family's band and a master musician in her own right, stars here as a woman leaving her oh-so-vain Hollywood wannabe-star boyfriend and delivering him a dagger to the heart via Facebook.
Panelists' comments: "What a beautiful video!" "Where was that shot?" "North of L.A., looks like." "That was real. Love the changing her relationship [status] to single on Facebook."
Artist: Cledus T. Judd
Video: "Garth Must Be Busy"
Director: The Brads
This should be a mess, but it turns out to be pretty funny. The premise: Cledus misses Garth Brooks after his retirement from country music nine years ago. Partly because of Cledus' innate cornball humor and partly because of the skill of the Garth impersonator, this video turns out surprisingly well.
Panelists' comments: "I didn't expect to, but I laughed my ass off." "That has to be Ronnie Dunn singing in there." "It is Ronnie." "That's better than anything Cledus has done before."
Consensus: Urban's "Kiss a Girl" and McEntire's "Strange" had their world television premiere Monday (June 1) on CMT in hot shot rotation. Mullins' "Long Past Gone" and two titles previously in the hold file -- Jesse Lee's "It's a Girl Thing" and the Lost Trailers' "How ‘Bout You Don't" -- also debuted Monday in medium rotation.

I love Keith’s video! It’s different and fun. He looks so hot doing his moves. As for the band being in the shadows….at least Keith always tries to have his band in his videos where most don’t!!
Melissa says:
I don’t like Keith’s video, actually. I love him and I love the song, but the video didn’t do anything for me. It was alright, but there wasn’t anything really special about it to me. But I can definitely see why some people would like it. Good for him for trying something new though. That’s really great! :)

God Reba looks amazing. Another top ten hit for which will make it 57.

Keith you have another winner as far I am concered. Love the song and the video. Only one that even remotely interests me.
Melissa says:
I think Keith’s “Kiss A Girl” video, is very creative, romantic and fun. I really like it. And I love to see Keith and the guys in the band play. Great job Keith and Chris H.
RedMaZ says:
Urban - More sissy music from him . Grow a pair!
McEntire - The Queen of oversing does it again. Just stop!
Mullins - Very good musician wasted on bad music. Say no to Pop
Judd - Not funny. Never has been, never will be.
Janetgijoenurse says:
Keith’s song is pure 100% bubblegum pop that Donny Osmond would of done in the 70’s. Shame on Keith give us some country instead of this bubblegum crap. You proved you could do it on the Strait tribute, now stop taking the easy way and do some country.
No wonder your album has got bad reviews.
JK says:
I think Keith’s video is very creative. Great song too.

[...] Watch new videos from Keith Urban, Reba McEntire, Megan Mullins and Cledus T. Judd at CMT. My Kind of Country recommended the Judd video for “Garth Must Be Busy,” which features vocals from Ronnie Dunn. [...]

To JANETGIJOENURSE in case you forgot, Keith’s album had rave reviews (depending on where you read yours) and it landed at the #1 spot on both the Country and Top 200 Billboard Charts in it’s debut. As for Keith being bubblegum pop, apparently you don’t know enough about Keith’s music to form an opinion! Keith not only incorporates some pop into his country but rock as well. That’s what makes him a unique country artist and has given him the success he has had over the last ten years including 2 ACM Male Artist awards, 2 CMA Male Artist Awards, 2 Grammy awards as well as many other awards including the most important CMA ENTERTAINR OF THE YEAR award in 2005! Anyone who listens to Keith’s music or takes the time to see him in concert would have to disagree with you on his bubblegum pop status. Keith is a country artist that totally rocks! He is an excellent guitarist and with todays’ style of country he fits right in! As for the new video, it might not be one of my favorites of his but it is a cute video and as long as it has Keith and his band in it, I’ll love it!
Faye Hilbert says:
As for RedMaZ, Keith urban already has a pair THANK YOU! He is an awesome entertainer, guitarist and songwriter and very good looking! Do I detect some jealousy? After all he is not only an award winning country artist but also a father of a beautiful baby girl and a husband to beautiful wife Nicole Kidman. His music relates to his audience especially the female fans that love the “sissy” side of him! Just keep on doing what your doing Keith, we love it! As for Reba and oversizing it, well I just have to say that Reba is and always will be the “Queen” of country yesterday and today. Perhaps you need to look at some other “oversizing” artist such as Taylor and Carrie and form your opinion from them and not the female artist that has paved the way for these younger female artists. Now they are what I call “oversizing” indeed!
Faye Hilbert says:
Correction, Keith has 3 CMA Male Artist awards (forgot when he won BOTH the CMA Male Artist and the Entertainer of the Year in the same year of 2005!) Along with his ACM awards, Grammy awards, CMT awards (for video of the year 2 years straight) and being honored by BMI for having 10 songs being played over 1 million times on radio (including “Somebody Like You” over 3 million times!) you can definitely say that Keith Urban is a country artist that the fans love and even if some people consider him bubblegum pop or that he needs to grow a pair, well I think his accomplishments speak for themselves along with his fans who love his style of country! I always look forward to Keith’s music and hope to see Keith in country for many more years to come!
