Luke Bryan's "Do I" Asks All the Right Questions
It doesn't happen immediately after your wedding day. But somewhere down the road, after you've said "I do," the big question hanging in the air transposes those words. And then, all of the sudden, it's "Do I?"
That's the irony of Luke Bryan's new song about a relationship that could very well be running out of love. He wonders, aloud, do I turn you on at all? Do I have your love? Tell me don't I, or do I? Do I just need to get up and get on with my life?
I certainly don't have the answers. But Bryan gave me a few of his own. "The allure of the song is that all relationships go there, right? There isn't one that hasn't been double checked," Bryan told me about the story in this song. "You're always questioning things." And when I asked about that line in the song that will hit very close to home for many ("Does the sight of me wanting you make you crazy?"), he said, "I meant that like when you see me making that move, does it even do anything anymore?" He also said to watch out for this big ol' warning sign: "Kissing's so passionate, that if a couple's kissing and it doesn't do anything, that is scary."
Bryan wrote the song with pals and labelmates Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum. And Lady A's Hillary Scott helps him on background vocals. When you hear it, you'll notice a sound that Bryan calls a bit more edgy. "I had to do that to turn a corner sonically," he said. "So it's a touch more rockin', and there are bigger guitars." (Honestly, though, Bryan could put 25 big guitars in a song and his slow Southern drawl would still be all I hear.)
You can listen for the song on the radio now and or wait impatiently for it on Bryan's next album, Doin' My Thing, which will be out in the fall.

I love love love this song….It actually did hit home…I mean, every relationship goes to that place where you get stuck…a rut..and eventually, you get through it….But it’s hard and it’s nice to see that middle-of-the-road acknowleged in a song…Not breaking up…Not passionately in love..but just there…Ya know…The normal…The part when you actually have to WORK at the relationship. Love Luke!!!! This song is gonna be a HUGE hit for him.

I loved the fun & laughter that Luke & Band brought with “Country Man” But, This by far is his best. It blew my socks off the first time I heard & saw the video. As far as his slow Southern draw. Hope he never changes that.
