Red Stick Ramblers Serve a Tasty Cajun Country Stew
Because it's sung in Cajun French, I had no idea what the Red Stick Ramblers were singing about on "Je T'Aime Pas Mieux," the first track of their new album, My Suitcase Is Always Packed. Then I read the liner notes (in English), and here's what it says: "A Cajun love song about quitting while you're ahead." More specifically, it's about a guy who doesn't like his new woman as much as the old one, but realizes she's better than no woman at all. It's a theme that these five guys often return to, but the music is playful enough that I figure it's all tongue-in-cheek. Amid the Cajun tunes, I was surprised to hear so much top-notch country music on the album. The narratives are fairly conventional -- drinking to get over your last girlfriend, finally getting over her and then drinking with a new girlfriend until that falls apart, too. And you gotta love those twin fiddles. Hopefully they'll ramble through Nashville and play at the Station Inn this summer. I may not always understand the words, but the honky-tonk vibe is unmistakable.

I agree, the Honkytonk vibe is unmistakable. Red Stick Ramblers cover a lot of ground. Pure hard core Country - “Drinkin’ To You”. Country Waltz with humor “Bloodshot Eyes”, some Swing flavor “Barnyard Bachelor”, to some Boogie Woogie with “Made in The Shade”. RSR is a great band!
