Toby Keith Says Mission Accomplished

Posted: April 30th, 2009 at 4:54 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Toby KeithThe big guy has written a little blog about his recent trip to Afghanistan. In a message posted Tuesday (April 28) on the U.S. Department of Defense Web site, Toby Keith noted he'd just completed 15 shows in five days. He couldn't write much because he says "this damn C-17 is shaking my penmanship somethin' fierce as we're leavin' Bagram." Overall, he says the troops were energetic but that the danger was at an all-time high. He's basing that assessment on the fact that they had to be escorted on gunships. But he maintains that the U.S. military and their commanders are in complete control. And as you'd expect, the whole experience has inspired some more songwriting from Keith. "I also wrote a new military song for this visit. It's called 'The Ballad of Balad.' Funny song about an Army recruiter. It made hard core, crusted, jaded FOB [forward operating base] Sgt. Majors laugh out loud," he said. If it's half as good as "The Taliban Song," I'm sure it'll be a hit with civilians as well.

I’ve enjoyed Toby Keith’s music for several years, and followed his concerns, and interest for our military. Although, we thank and praise our troops often, I feel they forget how heric, and valued they truly are to us. I can’t thank Toby Keith enough for his continued visits, and
    great entertainment! Thanks, again!

Thank you Alison for posting this wonderful news about Toby. His dedication to the troops is truly amazing. I have enjoyed reading Amy Mitchell’s daily accounts of this latest USO trip for Toby and his crew. There is also a terrific Toby radio show from Italy, Aviano Base. You can look up ‘Toby Live from Italy’ under Aviano Air Base and listen to the interview.

Big Thanks to Toby for all that you do. Truly he is a great American.

From someone who has spent some time at Balad, I can’t wait to hear Toby’s song about the place. It’s amazing how many country stars came to see us when I was over there, but hardly any other “stars” from other forms of music. Toby will always remain one of my favorites simply because of what he does for the troops. Toby, we love you for your support!

Thanks,Toby for sending a little of home from the U.S. to our men and women in the military. My son has been there for 2 weeks. He has gone over there to work on a job. He is a welder. He’s at Bagram. Don’t know when you were there, but I’m sure that you gave them a good show and they felt as if home and country music were closer than ever. Keep up the good for our men and women in Afghanistan and the other war areas across the world. My son is a Toby Keith fan. I hope that we’ll be able to get set up where we will be able to visit each online. That way we can share our photos and stuff with each other. So thanks again and keep up the good work. 5-03-09

This is only KINDA Toby related but I bought the new Cracker album today (alternative rock) and there is the most HILARIOUS COUNTRY song on there called Friends. My dream cover of this would be Toby and Willie. I know, impossible. The song starts “I’d never sleep with your ex girlfriend even if she starts to flirt with me again!” I predict a jukebox playin drinkin classic. Also since Toby fans are such military lovers there’s a more rock song called Yalla Yalla (free video on youtube) all about being in the army. So awesome. Shared it with my cousins in Afghanistan. I am an alt rock and country fanatic. Also I am not the hugest Driveby Truckers fan but if you are there lead singer is the one duetting on Friends with the Cracker guy. Not much left to say cept ONLY A MONTH AND A HALF TILL TOBY IN INDY!! woot!
