Tim McGraw, Is That Really You?

Posted: April 29th, 2009 at 5:26 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Tim McGrawThis is exhausting, really. Keeping up with all the ways a country singer can put himself out there online. And then you add a few imposters to that mix, and it's a full-time job just weeding out the fakes and phonies from the real thing.

Take Tim McGraw. He has roughly 395,000 friends on MySpace, about 94,000 fans on Facebook and some 7,042 followers on Twitter. Those, I think, are really him. Mostly because I believe the Twitter feed when it says, "This is the official Tim McGraw Twitter feed that is being set up for Tim. Please don't be fooled by cheap imitations! :) Stay tuned."

On McGraw's official Web site, or his MySpace page, he has a video message where he even talks about the new album coming out in the fall, and that "we'll be keeping up with you on Tweeter and Twitter and whatever you call it and Facebook." So I get that he's trying to stay on top of the necessary evil that is virtual music marketing. What I don't get is why anyone would bother to pretend to be Tim McGraw.

But what are you supposed to do when, hypothetically, you get a Facebook friend request from a "Timothy McGraw"? You'd confirm that, right? And when you did, you'd be super confused when his update said: "CALL and LEAVE ME A VOICEMAIL." Because when you call the number provided, it is most definitely not country star Tim McGraw's voicemail. And the e-mail address on that account doesn't seem very authentic either.

So, can someone explain to me why people with way, way, way too much time on their hands would waste hours of it posing as a country artist. Seriously. I'd love to know.

Is it really more of a waste of time to spend posing as a country artist than it is to actually spend time following the real Tim McGraw on Twitter? Probably not.

For sheer entertainment value, posing as Tim McGraw might be more enjoyable than listening to a McGraw CD!

Twitter is ridiculous. People all of a sudden are in love with it. Every other word on tv is “twitter” but Twitter is pretty much a step back from Facebook. So I dont get what all the excitement is about.

“I dug the lint out of my belly button today.” That’s how interesting twitter is.

I was interested in twitter because all the hype, so I start following some people on twitter and I find it very boring. Tim wrote a sentence almost a week ago, a lot of them go along time without writing something and it will be only a sentence or two.
This is probably one of the last things on their minds ,when they have families & busy careers.

    Thank gosh its free.

Tim cares more about his cologne, and Hollwood than music.

    He’s such a poser…

“Poser” ?? I don’t think if you try many different things makes you a poser….. Tim keeps himself very busy & he can’t wait to get his new cd out there.

    For one, he’s a paper cowboy…a wannabe.

Two, has he ever written any of his songs? Maybe a few..or co-written, but if so, not many…

I like Tim a lot. It is sad the ones that put Tim on the top are the ones pulling him down now. Wow!

I agree cjt. Once a fan of someone I always stayed true to that person. I don’t know why people pull him down. It’s not he did something personal to them.
Keith is great, but Tim is also still good.

This is suppose to be about twitter instead once again on these blogs it turns into trashing the artist.

I personally love Tim McGraw, his music is awesome, I think its kinda kool of him to join twitter, and when he starts to tour you can bet he will put a post up, and ofcourse there are many Tim wannabee’s out there, what guy wouldn’t wannabe Tim, he’s got it all, the best looking woman in country music and the nicest is his wife, he’s got adorable kids who adore him, he has it all, music career, acting, he can sell anything from chips to jeans, yup he is always in Forbes who wouldn’t wannabe him, and those who trash him, it is because they themselves wish they were him! That is my opo! I met both him and Faith, they are wonderful people both on and off the stage and its the real deal, so put him down if you must, so sorry you’ve nothing better to do with your lives tisk tisk…
