Phil Vassar Donates His Voice to Transplant Benefit
I don't know Phil Vassar all that well, but I do know that the two of us see eye to eye on organ donation. On May 30, Vassar will perform with Boston Pops at Boston Symphony Hall for what they are calling "an evening of music and personal stories to benefit organ-donation awareness and transplant research." That's important to everyone because you never know when you might need a transplant. But it's especially important to me. In the past seven years, my sister has had two lung transplants, so I've seen what miracles can happen when people donate life. The event, Share the Beat, was founded by Vassar's friend James Redford. (Yes, son of Robert Redford.) In 1993, James had a liver transplant after complications from ulcerative colitis. Vassar told me, "This is an important cause that really needs more awareness and support. I'm honored to have the opportunity to lend my voice to help spread the word about transplant awareness." Tickets range from $40 to $250, and proceeds will fund the American Society of Transplantation's grants, educational outreach programs and more.

I applaud Phil Vassar’s efforts to bring awareness and funds to the critical and very vital cause of organ transplants! … without the donation of a heart almost 15 years ago, my children would not have been able to have PopPop in their lives … what a precious, precious gift to give AND receive! … thank you AB for this heartwarmin’ relevant blog … :)
