Say "Hello Again" to the Mavericks' Raul Malo
If you were watching CMT in the 1990s, then you probably know all about the Mavericks. In my opinion, they were the coolest country band of that era, with their sunny, percolating rhythms and lead singer Raul Malo's magnificent voice. Since then, Malo's gone solo and released a new album, Lucky One, last month. Here's the first video, "Hello Again," which was filmed at the Nashville club, Mercy Lounge. Keep your eyes peeled for America's #1 favorite country sweethearts, Doyle & Debbie.

Malo has put out many good albums since the last Mavericks CD “Today”(2001), “The Nashville Acoustic Sessions” (2004), “You’re Only Lonely”(2006), “After Hours”(2007), and now “Lucky One”(oddly enough currently at #13 on the chart) imo One of the greatest voices since Roy Orbison. However this single “Hello Again” sounds very much like “Hear Comes The Rain”.

Oh yeah, love Doyle and Debbie too. A few of my favorites by them are…
Fat Women in Trailers
Whine Whine Twang Twang
Screwin’ Other Women
Harlequin Romance

Very interesting reading Raul’s musical influences. I would have thought Roy Orbinson would have been among them, but didn’t see his name mentioned.
Even before I read your post, Red, I thought this song sounded like something Orbison would have done. I wasn’t surprised to see that you had mentioned him in describing Raul.
And yeah, I’ve caught some of Doyle and Debbie’s work. Definitely not for the soccer mom crowd.
Thanks Craig, for yet another great blog, that actually talks about music. Some of your cohorts should take a lesson from you.

Not familiar with Doyle and Debbie - yet! … the comments on this blog alone are enough to make me wanna give ‘em a listen, though … :)

I love Raul’s new CD “The Lucky One” I am so glad he decided to stick with the solo career.
And he has mentioned Roy Orbison as one of his influences in past interviews.
