Tweet Dreams: Country Stars Try Twitter
When Martina McBride admitted she Twittered during her recent interview with CMT's Lance Smith, was I the only one who immediately signed up for this crazy thing? Probably not. I think any time a celebrity tells you that you can get to know him/her a little bit better, that's pretty hard to resist.
In case you haven't figured this trend out yet, it's just one more way for people to keep folks updated (and inundated, really) with a steady stream of info. Technically, it's defined as "a service for friends, family, and co-workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent messages. People write short updates, often called ‘tweets' of 140 characters or fewer." So I joined. And found a few country stars to follow.
But what's so interesting is that some artists use it like they're talking to friends. Others use it in a promotional way. And some -- gasp! -- are not even on Twitter. Carrie Underwood, for example, is not. Her MySpace page even warns fans: Carrie does not currently use Twitter, so if you're following a user on there pretending to be Carrie, you should probably stop following them.
Here are some of the more interesting tweets I found recently, and you can see for yourself how each person has their own Twitterin' style:
martinamcbride: On my way to do a little birthday shopping 4 my almost 11yr. old. Just talked 2 my dad. He's driving thru a snowstorm in KS!
Jason_Aldean: is headlining a free concert on April 3rd at the Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas prior to the ACM awards! be sure to vote!
mirandalambert: Eating pizza, and singing lol!
jakeofficial: Shot 76 today. Drank a few brews. Can't complain.
Dierks_Bentley: next single will be "Sideways" add it to your profile, just visit www.myspace.com/dierksbentley
_TaylorSwift: Just got back from my brother's induction into the Honor Society at his school. So proud, so proud. :)
JoeDonRooney: Go Sooners! :-)
KeithUrban: is in the top 5 on CMT's top 20. Make "Sweet Thing" no.1 and vote
If I've aroused your curiosity, there are a couple things to know before you sign up. One, it's often hard to separate the official artist pages from the fake ones. And two, Twitter can be really slow. But even when the site is having trouble, their messages are hip: Like, "Twitter is stressing out a bit right now."

WHO NEEDS TO KNOW says:
Frankly, I don’t like knowing everything about somebody all the time.Don’t people have a job or a life.I like a little mystery in my relationships and in my favorite celebrities.Alison your jealousy toward Carrie is really apparent and pathetic if you haven’t notice. You always find some way to knock her or report negativity.Get over yourself.Carrie doesn’t have to let me know when she’s going to the bathroom, when she’s going to sleep or what she is or about to eat-it’s irrelevant. This is going to be one hell of a anti-social generation. They’ll only know how to communicate through twitter and text messages not face to face conversations.

I have recently started using Twitter and I like to use it to follow my “favorites” because I love information and I think you have to have a lot of sources to verify that the information is correct sometimes. I have been around Country Music Stars all my life and they are just normal people and sometimes they are too busy but sometimes you just might make a connection, it is fun when you are following someone and they decide to follow you, even if it is just as their “FAN”…I like to think I do my research, I am informed, and I can converse with anyone. I also like to promote my “favorites” so I can do that too! Also, I like to know the latest technology available. I think it is a great application to use with the new phones that are out and if you have a loved one that travels…it would be a convenient way to stay connected or touch base and I like that aspect of it!

I doubt it’s the stars sending out the tweets. More likely their pr team

Yeah…I’m with you. While she’s at it she can keep her shoulder from the wheel, and her ear off the ground! That’ll teach her not to cliche’ anytime soon. boy I tell ya…

I wonder if anyone remembers when the word “Twitter” referred to a part of the female anatomy? It was around the same time a “Hummer” wasn’t a SUV..
