Kellie Pickler (With Taylor's Help) and Trace Adkins Lead New Music Video Releases

Posted: March 30th, 2009 at 5:29 pm  |  By: Chet Flippo

Four new music videos showed up for the CMT New Video Evaluation Team's latest screening session. Each appeals to a different personal reaction. Kellie Pickler aims for sweet revenge with "Best Days of Your Life" -- with the help of Taylor Swift. Trace Adkins goes for the funny bone in "Marry for Money." Dean Brody plucks on the heartstrings with "Brothers." And Williams Riley tell a saga of a family member reaching old age.

Artist: Trace Adkins
Video: "Marry for Money"
Director: Michael Salomon

Trace Adkins shifts from the seriousness of his last outings, "You're Gonna Miss This" and "Muddy Water," to an obvious bid for some really broad country humor with "Marry for Money." Sample lyrics: "I'll be so damn rich it ain't funny/I'm gonna have a trust fund yacht club piece of the pie."

Panelists' comments: "So funny!" "I needed that." "That song is something Trace can handle well." "He's a very convincing gigolo."

Artist: Kellie Pickler
Video: "Best Days of Your Life"
Director: Roman White

Kellie Pickler and Taylor Swift co-wrote and appear together in this sharp-tongued attack of a love interest who done Kellie wrong. Lesson to be learned: don't mess with these two girls. They will always have the last word. And a city bus gets in the act.

Panelists' comments: "Love it!" "I could have done without the bus." "Those girls are really bad together."

Artist: Dean Brody
Video: "Brothers"
Director: Stephen Scott

Dean Brody is a Canadian artist who first moved to Nashville in 2004 and got a publishing contract. That, along with his U.S. work permit, expired after two years, and he returned to Canada. Now, he's back in Nashville with an album deal. This is his first video: a tribute to men and women in uniform.

Panelists' Comments: "That made me cry." "Very touching." "I like what I see and hear in him."

Artist: Williams Riley
Video: "I'm Still Me"
Director: Stephen Shepherd

Lead singer Steve Williams is a former oil field roughneck from Louisiana. After his partner, British singer-songwriter Pete Riley, parted ways amicably, Williams kept the name and recruited band members. This first video is the story of a family patriarch growing old. Bryan White co-produced.

Panelists' Comments: "The video looks very good." "Is that Bryan White?" Very nice song."

Consensus: Kellie Pickler's "Best Days of Your Life" debuted on CMT in hot shot rotation on Friday (March 27). Trace Adkins' "Marry for Money" debuted in hot shot rotation on Monday (March 30). The videos by Dean Brody and Williams Riley entered medium rotation on CMT Pure on Monday as well.

Adkins makes a good buffoon. Enough of that one. The Pickler video is unbearable to watch. The Dean Brody video is the best from this bunch. Williams Riley…First of all why would you keep that name if Riley is no longer in the group? That makes no sense at all. As far as the song/video. A great concept for a song, however the forced over the top Pop sound/mix/production takes away from the meaning of the song, and turns it quite lame overall.
