Willie Nelson's Sparkling Duet With Melonie Cannon
Willie Nelson is probably country music's most famous duet partner, singing with everybody -- and we do mean everybody -- from Ray Charles to Waylon Jennings to Toby Keith. To take a line from "What Would Willie Do," he even had a hit country song with Julio Iglesias. One of my personal favorites, though, is "Back to Earth," with the sublime bluegrass singer Melonie Cannon. The video was filmed in Nelson's own town of Luck, Texas. I still need to catch up on his new albums (Willie and the Wheel and Naked Willie), but this is a cool way to wet my whistle.

I realize this blog is about Willy, but I have to say, Melonie Cannon is one fine singer in her own right. Many top names in Bluegrass music always readily agree to help out on her albums. Her “Cactus In a Coffee Can”, is a real tear bringer, and her cover of “Whiskey Lullaby”, is one of the finest I have heard.

As much as I like Merle and Willie duets, this version of Back To Earth fits much better with Melonie. Great job, and Melonie is a great artist in her own right too.

What is the young woman who appeared on Texas Channel KERA
Sunday, Oct 16’s Opry House? She said she and Willie had sung together, but the station never had anything telling viewers who she is. SHE IS FABULOUS! How old is she? Any albums for sale? Where is she appearing?
Leroy Thomas, Ph.D. says:
After watching the Opry House show for 45 minutes, the end credits TOTALLY FORGOT TO NAME THE SINGER OR HER MUSICIANS, but listed every one of the technical crew. Who is responsible for Opry House TV programming? (My first sentence above should have read: “Who is the young woman?”
