Is Darius Rucker Headed for Hootie-Like Fame Again?
It's like Hootie & the Blowfish all over again. Does everything Darius Rucker touches turn to gold or platinum? Back in 1995, Hootie & the Blowfish had two songs, one after the other, go all the way to No. 2 on the Top 40 charts. "Hold My Hand" and "Let Her Cry" were both great songs, mainly because they showcased the enormous power, range and distinctiveness of Darius Rucker's vocals. Their debut album, Cracked Rear View, went on to sell 16 million albums in the U.S. alone. And now here we are some 14 years later, and it looks like déjà vu. Darius Rucker‘s solo country career got off to a solid start with "Don't Think I Don't Think About It" hitting No. 1 in 2008. And now, his second tune "It Won't Be Like This for Long" is in the top spot. That album hasn't sold 16 million copies yet, but it has reached gold status, so I have a feeling this second time around could be just as good for Rucker.

Congratulations Darius!! You certainly deserve all of the success you’re getting.
Jimmy James says:
Whatever. Darius is talented, and his album is good, but his fame in country music will be fleeting. Stop the hype, please.
Twangtown7 says:
Two words to describe Mr. Rucker.
Sell-out poser.
sara says:
At least Darius puts some country instruments in his songs, more than I can say about some of the big stars of country music these days. I like Darius’ first single better than his second, but I still find myself enjoying his latest song because of his gorgeous voice. Congratulations Darius, you are a great addition to country radio.
Alison W says:
I liked him better with Hootie.
classiccountryfan says:
It takes more fiddles and a steel guitar to make a song country.
Chip says:
You’re right classiccountryfan… it takes a story and every song on Learn to Live tells a story. Darius is not Jessica Simpson and just doing country for the money… he has a lot of country influences and background. Do you think Kenny Rogers is country???? FYI - He was a pop singer first. Give Darius a chance… he’s a good dude.
merlefan46 says:
Rogers is pop country. So he and Darius have a lot in common.
I’ve listened to Dariuss cd and I’m not impressed. Same old boring songs
musiccritic says:
Darius is the real deal. Capital has signed him and he’s country. Being a fan of a certain music does not make one qualified to say what is country or not, sorry. Ultimately, it’s all a matter of personal taste anyway. Darius has one of the most soulful, unique, velvety rich baritone voices out there. He’s a humble man who is willing, despite his fame, to go to the country radio stations and play all over the county. He sings every concert like it is his first and last. He connects with each person in that audience. Precious few musicians have that gift. This will go platinum and there will be more. I’m happy for him. He deserves it all.
DariusFan says:
Whatever to you people that bash Darius. You can NOT argue with his sales and the fact he has had 2 #1 songs. Get over yourselves. Nashville has EMBRACED Darius. Carrie Underwood is from American Idol fame yet nobody bashes her. Jessica Simpson as a country singer is a joke and so is Jewel. I’d pretty much say those who bash him are probably part of the Deep South and participate in Klan meetings…losers!
Dean says:
Conway Twitty must be rolling over in his grave…Darius Rucker claims several musical influences and not one of them is a country artist. This guy smells money and it’s blowing up from the South–he’s a poser plain and simple.
