The Genius Behind Taylor Swift and Jack Ingram

Posted: March 17th, 2009 at 11:22 am  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Taylor SwiftFinally, the New York Times is taking notice of someone other than Taylor Swift. Like the man behind Taylor Swift. In this story about successful business practices in a crumbling economy, Big Machine Records boss Scott Borchetta opens up about taking chances and focusing on what can go right. He tells a story about Swift asking a radio station manager, "Can I play (the song) right now for your listeners?" and how they just couldn't say no. And one about how Jack Ingram's passionate work ethic got his "Wherever You Are" to No. 1. One that has Ingram recalling, "I was on tour all that week. I'd get into my hotel at 2 a.m. Then at 4 a.m., I'd get up and go to the local radio station. We'd do an interview there and call any radio station in the country that would have me on." Borchetta's bottom line? Star quality comes down to how committed an artist is to his or her music.

how does she keep gettin work. she sings like an 11 year old boy, she’s shaped like a rope with 2 knots tied in it, got the ugliest feet on cmt, is in severe need of acting lessons, and, hey, what’s with that overbite?

If Taylor Swift auditioned for American Idol she never even would make the first round. So sad that it is so true!!

I’ve been following Taylor since her first single “Tim McGraw”. I love her angelic unique voice, it just draws people in (those whom are not so jealous with envy) to notice that is.

I took notice and have been following her career. This young woman is going to dominate the world with her music!

Why is it when anyone makes a comment jealous is used to defend and make your point.

THEY are the ones that are jealous. Mention a great female vocalist to taylornation and they will jump down your throat and tell you that taylor is a great singer because she SELLS well. It’s really quite funny.

Everything negative anyone has ever said about Swift’s singing strikes me as largely true, but it doesn’t matter. The audience decides (with help from marketing and self-promotion). But still, the audience decides. Sinatra was a skinny kid with an ok look and what Randy Jackson would call “pitchy” problems early on. He would become a remarkable song stylist later — maybe even a truly great artist - but he was pretty big before he was particularly good. The audience decides
