North Carolina Club Fined After Jamey Johnson Show

Posted: March 16th, 2009 at 5:34 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

It was only a matter of time. You jam a Jamey-Johnson sized crowd in a nightclub and there's bound to be trouble. Johnson wasn't to blame, of course, but Hollywood Hollow, a nightclub in Lawsonville, N.C., has been fined $54,800 for a bunch of fire code violations. One of which was that there were 364 too many people at a recent Johnson concert. (The maximum occupancy is 492, so a crowd of 856 would definitely be a hazard.) The town's assistant fire marshal found the overcrowding, along with cars packed in like sardines. "We had 'em go on stage and make an announcement," he explained. They directed every one to go outside, then they began to allow them back in until they got to 492. Can you imagine how concert goer No. 493 felt? Johnson has reportedly offered to do another show, albeit an outdoor one.

After that horrendous RI club fire in 2003, club owners can’t get away with packing them in like sardines any more.

What was left out of this article is that the building used to be a 1000 capacity building, and the owners had been working with the fire marshal to get the capacity back up. Packed in like sardines is a bit of an overstatment. We just saw Jamey at the HOB in Myrtle Beach- now that place was truly filled to capacity. You couldn’t even walk through the crowd. 492 people is no where near being crowded there. Also, in contrast to the RI show, there were no fireworks in the building!

Only 500 tickets were sold. Over 300 were counterfeit. You should not say that unless you have met him.

We had tickets to the show and were not allowed in to the show due to to many tickets being sold.. We would like to know how you can get away with selling ticket to a show and then saying it is full and you are not allowed in…Talk about a waste of money that was 80 dollars down the drain…
