Steal Taylor Swift's Look for $14

Posted: March 12th, 2009 at 5:33 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Way, way back in February of 2007, I reviewed my first Taylor Swift concert. (It was actually a George Strait concert, but she did a nice little opening set with songs like "Picture to Burn," "Teardrops on My Guitar" and "Tim McGraw.") When she came out on this giant stage in a sundress and cowboy boots, so many thoughts ran through my head before she even started to sing. Why isn't she in True Religion jeans and a black T-shirt like all the other singers? Is this 17-year-old going to bring dressy back? And if so, what's it gonna cost?

I've seen Swift about six times since then, and I think it's safe to say she definitely brought dressy back. Look around at any of her shows and you'll see a sea of girls copying her look. Emulating is probably a better word. But again, what's it gonna cost? Well, bless Wal-Mart's heart, you can pretty much get the look for $14.

Using my own teenager as a model, we bought the l.e.i. Taylor Swift Cindy knit dress in Jelly Belly jade, put it on with cowboy boots (mine) and an acoustic guitar (hers). And voila. She is ready for summer.

Granted, nobody will be able to get tickets to Swift's Fearless tour at Wal-Mart-like prices. But at least it's affordable to look like your idol. Which was not the case in my Madonna-loving days, when to steal her look was to spend my hard-earned cash at the Limited, Spencer Gifts and anywhere fingerless gloves, cross necklaces and leg warmers were sold. So I'm glad for Swift fans. Glad that they can be like her without having to spend a fortune.

Taylor is not the one that brought dresses and boots back. Stars have worn boots and dresses forever in Hollywood. Look in the magazines. You are very unimformed. A lot of our country stars have worn dresses with boots off and on forever. Woops I forgot Taylor can move mountains but she sure can’t sing. Her new video is the same music with different words.

Great article Alison! Can I post it on Taylors CMT message board?

I also bought several of Taylors l.e.i. sundresses and love them. I think she was really looking out for her fans when she worked out the details and pricing with todays economy being what it is.

The only complaints I have heard of is that they only come in junior/women sizes and the younger girls sizes 7-14, want them too!

Taylor really cares about her fans, and it shows in so many many ways.

Btw awesome picture! I had to do a double take because of the hair color, lol. I expected a picture of Taylor!

Be sure to go on over to itunes and download their new single and help be apart of this record breaking single! While you’re there, might as well buy the video as well. (It’s also available for purchase on itunes!)

So, you’re saying the dress and boots cost $14?

    Um, no.

Looks to me that fashion is not the only thing that has a ‘Taylor’ spin to it. Swift has put her ‘Taylor twist’ on everything from the “National Anthem” to movies and television too!

Sorry Twangtown7. I guess I assumed a lot of country fans already owned a pair of cowboy boots. You obviously don’t, so, my bad.

Stereo-type much Alison? My God…if you listen to country music, you surely must wear cowboy boots.

    Wow.

It’s too bad that there has to be so many negative comments.

With the anonymity of the internet, there are so many negative comments out there.
