Wayne Hancock Loves "Thunderstorms and Neon Signs"
I went to a Wayne Hancock show over the weekend at Nashville's FooBar and got to see him sing one of my all-time favorite songs. "Thunderstorms and Neon Signs" is from Hancock's 1995 album of the same name (as well as 2003's Swing Time), and the imagery in his song about life on the road is so vivid that I often get caught in a daydream while listening. It's so sleepy-feeling that I can't help it. On Friday night (Feb. 28) Hancock's performance had the same effect, and it also helped me figure out how "the Train" became his nickname. You know how train whistles cut through the air so you can hear them from a mile away? Well, his voice does that. Hancock has a new album coming out April 21 called Viper of Melody, and any fan of "Thunderstorms" will surely want to check it out.

Classic performer. Long live The Train!

So true solongsowrong. I’ve encountered 100’s if not 1000’s of people who say “Country Music is dead” or something to that effect. They all seem to have one thing in common too. It is also very easy to prove each and everyone of them wrong. Country Music in many ways is just as good if not better than ever. By the way…if you catch Wayne out on tour right now he has copies of “Viper of Melody” already available.

I did not like the fact though that I had to look at pop rock musicians Keith Urban and Taylor Swift to make it on over here to this blog. But I am happy to see CMT covering real country music!
Mike L says:
Wayne Hancock is the real deal, good for CMT to respect what so many people already know. He is at home on the stage, he belongs there! Like Baron said above, long live the train!
solongsowrong says:
Who said otherwise? For one, a person on the latest Taylor Swift blog that said, “I feel like CMT has become the Disney channel. What has happened to country music?”
RedMaZ says:
I believe the only people who say “What has happened to Country Music” or “Country Music is Dead” etc. Don’t really love music or care about it enough to educate themselves. There is more Country Music today than there has ever been…
