Lunch in Louisiana With Tim McGraw
"Share the Spirit"? Is that what the kids are calling it these days? Whatever "the spirit" is, I want in. Because at this year's Share the Spirit auction to raise money for the Brentwood [Tennessee] United Methodist Church youth choirs, you could win a trip to Monroe, La., which is located near Tim McGraw's hometown. And guess who's going with you? Tim McGraw. You'll hang with Tim, have a po' boy lunch and then have something to tell your grandkids. There are other items up for bidding (a pair of Reba McEntire's shoes and Carrie Underwood's "Last Name" lyrics and hundreds of others), but the chairwoman of the event admits that quite a few people bought tickets to the auction just to bid on that item. It's only $20 to get in to Saturday night's (Feb. 28) auction. But my gut tells me this little trip will go for 10 times that.

Matilda says:
Not worth it. Monroe, La. is nothing to look at nor is Tim.
Julie says:
I would love to bid on that package to spend the day with Tim. Fat chance though, I’m from Minnesota. What a day that would be…
KyLuvsTim says:
WOOO!!! Alison, great article as always. Now, how am I going to get to this auction this weekend!??
MiaT says:
Ohhh man….. Can you imagine? I would LOVE to have the money to bid on this experience. I would love to have the chance to ask Tim sooo many questions. I have met him once & that was a day I will never forget. I hope the winner of this opportunity enjoys every moment. I hope they raise lots & lots of money & I am sure a day with Tim will bring in the biggest amount of money.
I will just have to settle for a little dreamin tonight! LOL
solongsowrong says:
So do you get fries with that?
Kendall says:
Can’t tolerate Tim anymore. He’s just a waste of time and money.
Camilla says:
Would love this experience to have Tim share his thoughts and experiences while he was growing up . . . what motivated him at that time and his impressions of life at that time versus now. I think it is clever to have the day in his hometown where they would not be so interrupted by the media and fans. I often feel bad for celebrities to have to shield where they go in order to gain some private moments. I know they knew that when they got into the business; however they also are entitled to some privacy. Good luck to the lucky winner!
Jocelyn says:
Tim didn’t grow up in Monroe. He grew up in Start. Start is a horrible town. Tim would not even go back there now. Don’t like the guy anyway. Can’t stand his voice.
Sharon says:
I can’t believe you people are talking about Tim like that. He has a wonderful voice and does alot of charitable things for a lot of organizations!! Don’t bid on this item but no need to bad mouth him!
Christine says:
No offense towards Tim, but to bid on touring a place with him is just crazy. I like Tim & Faith, but my gosh the economy is so bad right now & people are going to jump at this & spend their savings or use their credit cards. I wish celebrities would have more common sense than to do this.
I think it is sad that it has come to this.Well, I hope the person that wins, doesn’t hurt themselves financially because the economy is only getting worse.
Come to reality, he is just a person.
Giving money to that charity, ok , but U.S. is one big charity right now.
Layla says:
Tim has more money than his fans. Let him buy and give more. After all, it’s the fans that made him rich.Give my share to charity TIM!
Nikki says:
Iam sure that everyone who bids is aware of how much he or she can afford. I applaud Tim for being willing to do this rather than just write a check, someone will have a day that he or she will never ever forget, I am sure the Church will raise tons of money, God knows if I could I would be first in line, for Tim anytime he is awesome and still #1 in my books! You ROCK Tim, thanks for the super fine music, hope to see you again real soon!
Hugs, Nikki

There are few in the business that are as charitable as Tim and Faith. You would be surprised how much they give to so many organizations especially anything with kids involved.
How many superstars to you here that have went back to their hometown 13 times since 1994 to put on a concert and ballgame for kids in his hometown of Start.
BTW Start is only a very short drive from Monroe. Tim and Faith do so much and he does much for the kids from his hoemtown.
Tim remembers where he came from and how poor his family was, he has a huge generous heart and always has.
Don’t hardly ever Kenny doing anything withhis money, he jsut likes to rake it in not give it out.
I in the past was on a local board regarding St Jude’s hospital and was a contributing member bet you didn’t know tim and Faith are one of the biggest contributers to St Jude over the years.
Bet you didn’t know that Tim paid Johnny Paycheck’s Nursing home bill the last few years of his life, Tim did no one else. He would tell his fans to write him, and even calll him form the stage so he could hear the people sing his song Take This Job And Shove it. Both Tim and Faith have very huge gtiving hearts.

My wife and I won this trip. We were happy to give to the charity- these kids are doing good things and contributing to the well-being of society as a whole. We did not give money we couldn’t afford to give- thanks for the concern, though, which is legitimate given the current state of the economy. My wife and I are looking forward to spending some time with Mr. McGraw and talking to him about his journey in life within and separate from stardom.
