Dean Martin and My Grandmother, Now "That's Amore"
I've written many blogs about my Grandpa, my stories and memories of him, like how he reminded me of Eddy Arnold or how he once had a chance encounter with Roy Acuff. But I've never written anything about my grandmother. I suppose it's because she passed away before I had the chance to meet her. But I've always been curious about her. And since I'm getting married soon, on the first day of spring to be exact, I wanted to feel as though she was a part of the big day, but I wasn't sure how. All I knew of her were stories my mother shared like that she enjoyed baseball and loved Dean Martin. But recently, instead of me searching for her, I feel as though she found me.
It happened the other morning. I'm not sure where it came from or how I even got this thought, but I called my mother and instructed her to look in her mother's Bible. Now mind you, I didn't even know if my mom had her mother's Bible, let alone what it looked like or what may be in it. I don't even have any reasoning as to why I told her this. I just did. But, following my wishes, she took out her mother's Bible, flipped through the worn-out chapters, and sure enough, placed between the tattered pages, was a poem about spring.
I felt like when I read those words, I got to know her a little better. Maybe it's her way of sharing a piece of herself with me, like she's having a hand in the wedding. And this morning, as I was thinking about her, I heard Dean Martin piping through the speakers -- and I just knew. "It's all coming together," I thought. "Bells will ring ... ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling ... that's amore."

Great story to share. I do think angels have a way of playing songs or having artists sing to us just at that moment when we are thinking of those we love. Dean Martin is one of the greatest. His talent, humor, voice and all around great human being.

Did Dean Martin ever win a CMA? Seems like I recall that he did, but I can’t remember what song it would have been. He was one of the greats.
