Kellie Pickler Takes Manhattan
What would Loretta do? That's what I always ask myself when I see couture fashion seeping into the lives of country artists. Loretta Lynn has always prided herself on overdressing for concerts, but I wonder what she'd have to say about Kellie Pickler's recent jaunt to New York for Fashion Week. Pickler is pictured at countless fashion shows, designer booths and hanging out in Bryant Park in about a dozen different outfits. A red pea coat, a white pea coat, a Roaring '20s fringe shift (and oh, my God, are those false eyelashes on her bottom lashes?), a fuchsia tiered dress, a glistening navy one-shoulder cocktail dress, a beaded gown, a low cut red party dress, a sailor-inspired strapless number and so so so many more. It's a nice change of pace to see Pickler all dolled up, but I hope she sticks to jeans and T-shirts on tour.

That is one scary picture! She looks like a drunken Bette Davis.
Always Right says:
LOL!!! So true RedMaZ!! LOL!!!!
hotelmotel says:
What did she do to her face? Pickler isn’t helping herself with all the surgeries, facial treatments or what not. She’s was a reasonably attractive woman, but these “enhancements” are backfiring on her and making her look worse not better.
dan says:
i agree with hotelmotel (interesating name by the way) pics of kellie over the last 6 mouths or so she has looked tired what is she doing?
Always Right says:
Pretty hypocritical of her to sing a song called “Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful” and then turn around and have all of these “enhancements.”
Kim says:
Someone shoot the makeup artist who went crazy on Kellie. She looks much better with less makeup in all of her other fashion week photos! After 3 years of TV and photos you would think her team would know by now that less makeup is more. Some women need it and some don’t. Kellie don’t and she always looks best without it. She also looks better without false eyelashes.
Kim says:
Isn’t she supposed to be opening for Taylor Swift? Or has that tour not started yet?
Kim says:
Isn’t she supposed to be opening for Taylor Swift? Or has that tour not started yet? She looks even scarier in some other pics.
Denise says:
Great photos! Kellie is beautiful! I don’t care for the look in this 1 picture because they put way too much makeup on and she looks better in the other pictures in the set. She doesn’t need makeup and it’s easy to see why she was voted the most beautiful woman in country music at Country Weekly and why Hazel said
“Photos don’t do Kellie justice. At age 20, she is the most beautiful female singer in all of country music. You can quote me on that.” Hazel Smith (CMT)
Darren says:
I still have yet to hear her sing
Donna says:
Kellie is very pretty but NO WAY can she get next to Faith Hill plus a few more. I have pictures you all would die to see. I love her and I would never show them. Kellie is a very pretty girl but Country Weekly has a thing for Kellie.
(If you hadn’t noticed)Yes Ii know her very well.
Jim says:
Kellie is the most beautiful. Donna if you hadn’t noticed the Country Weekly contest is voted by Country Weekly readers and country fans so they have a thing for Kellie. If Country Weekly has a thing for Kellie I’m sure they would have put a big photo of her on the cover when she won. They only showed the male winner and not the female. Faith won the same contest 2 years ago. Did they just have a thing for her? We’ve all seen Faith in a bikini and she looks great. No one has Kellie’s killer tiny waist and boomin’ badonkadonk. Photographers almost have to fight each other in the lines for photos.
Julie says:
I agree, less is more.
Jayme says:
I think she is natural beauty and will stay beautiful long after others with more hype and opinionated beauty fades.
alex says:
Pickler is nothing but a joke! She was barely off idol and she was trying to live the glamorous high life. She changed from that sweet innocent “redneck” the minute she got a record deal. Her medicore success has gone to that naive hick head of hers and she thinks she is all that. What was that saying from last year “You can put lipstick on a pig . . .” I think it fits exceptionally well here.
Gina says:
This is an awful pic of her! I thought when TMZ caught her with no makeup that was terrible, but this is worse!
cj says:
Alison strange you would write about how Kellie dresses and her make-up. How about being country and dressing as a fairy princiss. Beautiful ball gowns that belong on disney. Wow I guess you forgot about that. Any model you see going down the cat walk has the same make-up. Look at Jessica on opery with everything falling out…..That sure has not been country either.
Jackie says:
Give me a break! Kellie is what 22? She is having fun with fashion and experimenting a bit. Who wouldn’t want to wear those beautiful clothes if one could afford it? She is very pretty, and hasn’t lost her human side either!
Nancy says:
seems like alot of you guys are just plain jealous
I agree with you Jackie
let her have her fun and her moments
shes only 22
the rest of you need to look at yourselves
L says:
I wouldn’t call it jealousy, it’s called giving your opinion. That’s what a blog is, different opinions.
Some opinions left here, I must say I agree with, she is trying to be something she’s not. The only reason she’s going on tour is because of her bff, inviting her. Now call me jealous, that’s funny, I call it the truth.
wendy says:
hey girl
hotelmotel says:
As with Jackie, I think its fine that Pickler wants to “have fun with fashion and experimen[t] a bit.” And I confess that I have worn some pretty bad clothes too, and don’t want to go to had on Pickler.
But the issue isn’t really fashion. A bad outfit, a bad haircut, and too much makeup are pretty temporary. No big deal, really. But Pickler seems to be getting various surgeries and “enhancements” that are detracting from her beauty, not enhancing it. These are a bit harder to reverse.
There are several celebrities out there who seem to have had one too many facelifts or botox treatments or what not. I hope Kellie Pickler does not go down that path.

I agree and I’m not talking about Kellie.

She is all that and then some!
Michael says:
Sure Kellie is a natural beauty, however her voice is her most beautiful asset! She’s one of the best new singers in years… a real songbird! I loved it when she sang the 9 to 5 duet with Dolly!
Ms. Feathers says:
Lawdy, she looks like Courtney Love. Ick. Personally, I like Kellie, and this picture won’t make me like her less. It’s just a lousy photo.
I’m glad she’s having fun at Fashion Week, tho, lucky duck!

“The only reason she’s going on tour is because of her bff, inviting her.”
Don’t be ridiculous. Kellie is touring with Taylor because Kellie is one of the best and Taylor is headlining one of the biggest tours so naturally she wants to tour with the best. Taylor also picked Gloriana for the same tour and she’s not BFF with them. Kellie has always had nothing but the most positive ticket sales and concert reviews. Kellie would be touring with or without Taylor because she’s one of the best artists and LIVE concert singers. That’s why she has toured with award-winning big touring artists like Brad Paisley and Sugarland. Kellie and Taylor were the best new female artists in 2007 so they were on the same long tour with Brad Paisley and helped him break sales records. That’s where they met and became friends and co-writers. Carrie has also mentioned wanting to tour with Kellie and many best artists want to tour with her because like them, she’s the best!
Kellie won the CMT Performance of the Year award and she gets standing ovations and great concert reviews, mostly for her great vocals and songs. She was the queen of the night at the fan-voted 2008 CMT awards, winning more than Taylor and everyone even though she had far less promotion, sales and half as many videos made to get nominated, so she won based on her huge talent and best LIVE performance of the night at the CMA Awards. I won’t be surprised if Taylor gets a EOTY nomination after this tour. So far everyone Kellie toured with has: Brad, Rascal Flatts, and Sugarland.
Kellie is also good enough to headline and she has headlined many concerts. She would probably be headlining a major tour if her label promoted her music as much as Carrie or Taylor. Fans and artists have nothing but praise for Kellie’s concerts. The only real complaints I’ve heard is that they are too short because people just can’t get enough of Kellie’s great voice, singing and songs. Check out Alison’s review of the Winterfest concert and you will see that the Chicago area fans who came to see many artists gave Kellie the one and only standing ovation of the night. It’s often been the same at the Opry and many concerts. I won’t be surprised if Kellie gets an Opry membership invite one day and she deserves to be the next one they invite.
Going to a fashion show and trying on different looks is not trying to be something she’s not, after all Kellie is a fine woman and it’s not much different from dressing up for the country awards red carpets. The usual designers of the dresses Kellie and the other top country women wear are showing off their newest dresses at this show so Kellie is smart for checking them out and getting advice directly from the designers. I suppose we’ll see her on the best-dressed red carpet lists again this year.
Gina says:
If I may throw something into your overly long promo.
Kellie, didn’t make it on talent, it’s who you know, and her braising nature. What topped it for me was using her own personal Family problems to get sympathy to win over fans. That performance “I Wonder” was so fake, it was a disgrace! She knew that would get a standing ovation, out of pity.
When Carrie mentioned about doing a tour with her, Carrie is so humble, she didn’t realize her Super Stardom then.
Fashion, lets see, remember her revealing Prom dress, guess that’s Kellie’s fashion sense, sexy, no class there!
So don’t push your reality of Kellie on others, some know where the true talent is and not just fake promotion!
MC says:
The truth is long!
Of course Kellie made it on talent when she made the best songs. Real country fans know real country music when they hear it and her performance of I Wonder was so great and real that fans voted it CMT Performance of the Year! Real country song, real country singer! One of the best performances ever on the CMA awards! FOX news interviewed Carrie backstage after the awards and this is what she said about Kellie’s performance:
“You know that every single word she said was very heartfelt and I love her to death, I’ve gotten to hang out with her quite a bit and consider her a good friend of mine, there was not a dry eye in the house, and I can’t wait to see her win some awards next year.”
What was the highlight of the night for Kenny Chesney? “Kellie Pickler nailed it. I think it was the biggest moment of the show,” said the humble star, who racked up his second straight entertainer of the year award.
Obviously Carrie and Kenny thought I Wonder was a real, award-winning performance! The biggest country stars know where the true talent is!
Carrie is humble and realized her stardom after winning so many awards. She would not have mentioned wanting to tour with Kellie if Kellie wasn’t already a huge talent. The best want to tour with the best!
Kellie has proven she’s a true talent who deserves more promotion! She has more class in her pinky than some people have in their entire body. It doesn’t take any class to bash someone as classy as Kellie. Carrie is very classy and you don’t see her bashing.

About Picker being “a true talent who deserves more promotion!”
It seems to me that Pickler is getting far, far, far more promotion than other artists who sell similar amounts of albums.
Pickler’s problem isn’t lack of promotion. Its not lack of charisma or lack of talent. She has a lot going for her. Its lack of good choices for singles. Other than “I Wonder” and maybe “Red High Heels” she hasn’t released anything thats going to resonate with radio listeners enough to translate into big sales.
Kellie’s getting a lot of promotion and yet her second album is selling poorly. Her current album has sold only 172,000 copies. And currently its selling around 2,000 to 3,000 a week, so the total sales number isn’t going to get much higher soon. She still doesn’t have a top ten hit. If the next single doesnt become a hit the label may decide to promote her less.
Some of that’s due to a bad economy some to downloading. Kellie is doing respectably enough. But those numbers arent impressive, either.
I think Kellie could have a very big career. But I think she needs to close out 2009 with a top ten song (and better a top 5 song). The publicity will start to dry up if Pickler can’t sell albums or have hit records.
hotelmotel says:
I should say — I think her current single has potential to be a big hit. I think a lot is riding on this song. If its a hit, it could help her career take off. But if not, the label may put minimal effort into promoting the third single (why spend money promoting the third single when the first two didn’t do that well).
And “best days” has “future hit” written all over it. If it can’t go top ten, maybe Pickler won’t ever have a string of hits. But if it can go top ten, it might well persuade a lot of people to buy her CD.

Alison’s mother says:
This illustrates why Alison Bonaguro has no credibility when it comes to writing about country music.
Did anyone actually read this blog and try to dissect what the heck Alison was saying?
In a nutshell, I think Alison is implying that country artists should stick to the gingham dresses they sew themselves on the Singer that Granny got from the Sears catalog store back in the Depression with money she earned selling eggs and homemade pies at the county fair.
In Alison’s provincially biased little brain, images from Walton’s Mountain, Walnut Grove, Bugtussle and Mayberry blend together, forming a foggy, dopey “reality” far removed from the real world.
It’s unfortunate that Alison believes that all country music fans live in this mythical land, and all country music stars were born there and are just being uppity when their taste veers toward the 21st century.
Maybe Alison should get out more. Or up the meds.
P.S. Hey, Alison. I hear Loretta has a phone now. The number is BR-549. If you really wonder what she’s thinking, give her a freakin’ call. Isn’t that your job?
