American Idol's Brent Keith Still Looking for a Road

Posted: February 18th, 2009 at 11:41 am  |  By: Whitney Self

Brent KeithAs Brent Keith made his way out to judges Simon, Paula, Kara and Randy, to try his shot at becoming the next American Idol, I thought he looked rather familiar. As I sat there watching his audition, I tried to figure out where I had seen his face and heard his voice. Then it hit me. This handsome young man had performed on Unplugged at Studio 330 a couple of years ago around the same time CMT released Dale, its movie about legendary racecar driver Dale Earnhardt. Keith sang the theme song, "Looking for a Road." But I hadn't heard anything more from Keith until now. Already, he's paved his way through the grueling weeks of Hollywood and has become one of American Idol's top 36 contestants for season eight. This opportunity has surely faired well for other country AI contestants who've gone on to pursue country music like Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, Josh Gracin and Bucky Covington to name a few. Tonight we'll find out if his Tuesday night (Feb. 17) performance of Jason Aldean's "Hicktown" is enough to keep him in the competition. Perhaps Brent Keith has finally found the road he's been searching for all along.

Yes, hope he does well. The reality is however that not all winners of AI become superstars like Carrie Underwood and not all contestants become successful after AI…the AI experience may open some doors but it’s no guarantee of success.

Here’s the road he SHOULD take: doing it the old fashioned way by busting his butt in bars!

Oh…DING…the light just came on. I totally remember this song. They played the heck out of the video on cmt. His voice is pretty good, better than half the crap that’s on AI at the moment! I hope he moves on to the next round.

Brent is a great singer ~ for those of you that don’t remember he was also on a former season of Nashville Star. I really hope he makes it far on American Idol - its about time they get shown what true talent is.

Guess you’re the type of person who believes that unless you get your hands dirty then it’s not a tough job? I can’t think of anything more emotionally and physically draining than having to do something ALWAYS at peak level performance withing a specific time period.

I loved Brent. I voted for him a lot last night. I had two phones going at the same time voting, lol. He has busted his butt from what I’ve read he has tried the whole small venue thing and hasn’t had his great break yet. He’s played at various Wal Marts also from what I understood. I hope this show will do it for him.

I certainly wish him all the best. Country has been very good to most of the Idols that went this way. Even though many won’t reach super star status like Carrie Underwood, they are able to have very very successful careers. Bucky Covington had the best selling male country artist album the first week that it was released and then went on to have three Top Ten singles off of the same album. He is currently finishing up his second album with a new single due out next month. Bucky is over in Kosovo entertaining the troops right now so I hope that everyone see’s that you can have a wonderful and successful career without being #1 all of the time. I hope Brent keeps trying even if his Idol days get numbered. Remember Bucky finished 8th in Season Five, just look at him now!

I really really liked him. It’s a shame he did not make it, but we can hope for the wildcard round! And if he still doesn’t make it, then hopefully he will get noticed by someone, or he will try again. He has a great voice.

I think he’s really good, but it’s unfortunate that AI is letting people that have had record deals on the show. It was so much better when it was those who were getting their “one shot” on the show and had real stories, not those who have had their shot and didn’t make it for one reason or another. But don’t get me wrong, I think he is very talented.

This youug man is an exquisite performer. One of the best and i really believe this is the road God has chosen him to take. His voice doesn’t sound like any other and I believe he will succeed.

Brent is one country boy that rocks, he truely deserves a wildcard spot.
