Joaquin Phoenix, Are You in There?

Joaquin Phoenix on LettermanIf Joaquin Phoenix has truly given up acting, then how do you explain this bizarre interview with David Letterman? The guy who earned an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Johnny Cash is promoting a new movie, but not very effectively. It's certainly a painful chat to watch, especially when the bearded one is talking about his forthcoming music career, but stick around until the end when Letterman gets in a few final zingers.

Whats this have to do with country music? Because he played Johnny Cash in a movie??

I guess this is fitting though, since CMT doesn’t air anything that has anything to do with country music anymore either…

Then why are you still complaining? Is that all you do? If you spent half the time checking out some of all the great new music out there as you do b!$#@%…you might learn something. This site isn’t just about country music. This is mainly a Pop Culture site. However they do feature Americana subjects too. Open up man…take the blinders off.

As far as Phoenix…he’s a two time Oscar nominee. He’s acting, he’s promoting a movie. He brought his own film crew with him to the Letterman show. This is called a publicity stunt, to draw attention to his movie. People need to get a grip on this Pop culture thing. Stop being so naive. Get with the program. It’s really not that difficult. His Hip Hop act is another story.

I was wondering…if Phoenix were to take a hike between 12:00am and 12:00pm, would that be considered….Joaquin after midnight?

…and would it make a difference if he was accompanied by a person cheated, victimized, or made the butt of a joke while deviating from a horizontal or vertical position?

I’ve looked through 3 pages of music posts(country and otherwise) and have yet to see you contribute to any discussion. I tell you what Mr. country music purist…list me 10 new Country music artists you’ve checked out in the last week, and I’ll go and listen to them..

I just watched the video clip of the Letterman show and I am really bummed out. I love Joaquin Phoenix!!! I think he is one of the best actors. I thought he was awesome in Walk the Line that movie and the soundtrack still rank as my favorites. Maybe he’s just having a Britney moment and will come out of it real soon.

My family & I tend to agree more with Rosebud. We’ve come to really enjoy the rolls that Joaquin has protrayed, along with the musical arrangements that have come his different roles he’s protrayed. He has always been willing to not shy away from roles that others may of found “too much work to accomplish well.” But his “latest role”…if that’s what most of you feel he was “creating on the Letterman Show” was very disturbing to us. It hasn’t been very long since his brother, River Phoenix, an equally diversely talented actor/singer died from a drug overdose with Joaquin and their sister, Rain, by his side outside Johnny Depp’s nightclub. River had recently finished filming, “A Thing Called Love”, with his girlfriend Samanatha Mathis and together they sang from Nashville on the movie’s soundtrack together. The similarities of their raw and natural talent are obvious! We just pray Joaquin is “fine in his obsolete world”. I just don’t find any humor in the possiblity that one never knows “what’s an act and what’s not?” America lost River way to early in his life…and he hasn’t been the only actor or musician we’ve lost! We owe it to each other to NOT be cynical, but to be accepting. Even if the joke ends up being on me in the end…at least I can LIVE with that on my shoulders, better than the alternative.
