As usual Americana is dominating these awards. Thanks for the update.

I see even Brad Pasley was smart enough to surround himself with a host of Americana artists.

Americana Artists winning Pop awards. Now THAT’s the definition of Crossover artists.

I thought carrie sounded so so, I agree with what she had on, not sure about that.taylor sounded ok to, but do not care for miley.

Underwood is a Pop Country singer. That’s what she is representing. She’s doing what she’s supposed to do. It’s basically 80’s Pop Rock music. That was a Rock band backing her up, and all the hairspray and shreading guitars, may have damaged the ozone layer too. I consider myself open minded, and accept today’s Pop Country for what it is, but even I have to draw the line somewhere. If anyone thinks that was a country music performance…they need their head examined. Pure 80’s Pop Rock. Which is fine if you’re into that type of thing. Personally, I lived through that decade once. I’ll stick with 21st Century cutting edge music.

And Kenny pulls off the best performance. Simple…no crazy light show, no stupid stage props. Just straight-up music.

Carries performance, Kenny Chesneys and Sugarlands performances were the best of the whole show!! Keith Urban should have had a performance too but hes not Taylor Swift so all he got to do was play the guitar!!

carrie was so pop country more than what some people want to say, taylor was very good she sang the song like she recorded it on her cd, but miley put a different twist on it.kenny did better than any country performer so far tonight I sure sugarland will do good also

Krauss and Plant are still up for 2 or 3 more.I hope they clean house.

And Carrie wasn’t as good as she usually is, but she made up for it at the end with a couple big, big notes.

I learned that from Paula Abdul.

Yes, Carrie is pop country and I love it.

I think carrie was really off tonight did not like the out fit she wore, maybe something with out big sleves and different color would have been better. taylor I thought was good kenny, sugarland was the best be far!!!

Plant and Alison are four for four so far. Only Album of the Year to go. Plus their performance.

Alison Krauss has won two awards with Robert Plant and lets HIM do all the talking. She could at least say “Thank you”.

i think some people think carrie sounded weir because she usually does ballands in award shows like JAD o IKYW, and this is the grammys we needed some up tempo country rock song and she gave a entertaining performance show a lot of personallity

Keep up poppygirl. Plant and Alison have won four awards so far tonight. And yes, she did say Thank you.

carrie sounded fine. they are playing the music way too loud during these performances (my point was just proved by alison krauss’ performance - you could barely hear her)

If americana is dominating why didn’t an americana artist win best country album, best male, female, duo or group country vocal performance, or best country song or album? Which americana artist performed?

  • MR says:

    Posted: February 8th, 2009 at 11:24 pm

I just want Keith to play guitar for three hours. That could have been greater.

RC: Best Country Collaboration with Vocals was won by an Americana artist. As well as overall Album of the Year. And they were the last performance of the night…… Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. Five Grammy wins for the night, in several different genres of music.

Now if you go up and read the Blog, you’ll see a whole page of Americana artists listed as winners.

Alison is the only americana performer? How is that dominating? Several country artists performed. If americana is not pop music how did Plant and Krauss win pop collaboration with vocals?

  • star says:

kenny, alison krauss, and sugarland were great!!!!

Winning album of the year is dominating. Alison has the voice of an angel. Are Plant and Krauss the best country artists? I don’t know, Plant is a rocker and most of this album does not sound country it sounds Led Zeppelin light.

  • solongsowrong says:

    Posted: February 9th, 2009 at 12:05 am

The same way they also won for Best Contemporary Folk/ Americana album, Best Record of the Year with an old Rock tune, and Best Country Collaboration with vocals. The album crossed over many genres.

The TV portion of the show is trying to bring in the Pop audiences. It only highlights about 15 of the over 100 awards handed out. Americana artists are peppered all over the 90% of the awards not televised.

Did you even read this blog? Many Americana artists are listed above. Nobody but you said anything about Americana dominating the performances. The original statement was that Americana is dominating these awards. two different subjects entirely.

Is americana pop or country music? Why wasn’t an americana artist nominated for Best Female Country Vocal Performance, Best Male Country Vocal Performance, or Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals? Why doesn’t folk music have vocal categories?

  • solongsowrong says:

    Posted: February 9th, 2009 at 12:52 am

Americana is music based on the Roots of Rock, Country, Bluegrass, Folk, and the Blues. The key word being Roots music.

The Steeldrivers are Americana, and they were nominated in the Country Performance by a Group or Duo with vocals. Jamie Johnson is played in Roots Country as well as Mainstream, and was in the Best Male Country vocal Performance category. Artists like Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea, Randy Travis, Rodney Crowell, Ricky Skaggs, Emmylou Harris, James McMurty, The Eagles, are all artists played on Americana radio, and were among those with Grammy nominations, as well.

I have no idea why all genres don’t have vocal categories. That’s a question for the Grammy people.

steve just to prove a point you can hardly ever hear alison krauss in any song she sings. c.u. was really off that night.

Even though I wanted James Otto to get the Best Male Performance award, I am happy for Brad Paisley because he deserved it too, but what I can’t accept is the Sugarland girl getting the Best Country Song award over James. To me, his song “In Color” is what country music should be all about, I love him so much!!! (big smile)

God bless you and James and Brad always!!!

Yeah, you can hardly hear Alison. LOL

That’s why her concerts are so enjoyable. They aren’t just another excuse to party. People actually have to sit in their seats and listen.
