Bikini Girl Is No Faith Hill
It only took about 14 seconds of Bikini Girl to make me appreciate Faith Hill that much more. That's all she sang of Hill's "Breathe" on this week's American Idol. And while I'm no Simon Cowell, I have to say it was an absolutely dreadful nightmare.
For those of you who may not know Bikini Girl, she is Katrina Darrell, a 20-year-old model from California. When she auditioned in Phoenix, she wore a very teeny tiny string bikini and towering heels while she sang Mariah Carey's "Treated Me Kind." I'm all for standing out, but this bikini kind of backfired. Because it caused a little tension (OK, a lot of tension) between Darrell and the female judges. When one judge told her she didn't have the chops to sing that song, Darrell said, "But your demonstration wasn't any better." Wow. Not exactly the best way to win over the judges.
So when she got up on stage during Hollywood week to sing Hill's "Breathe," this time a little more dressed, it just fell flat. It's pretty hard to outsing Faith Hill on that megahit. The claws came out through the well-chosen words of judge Kara DioGuardi. "It went kind of off at the end and got kind of thin," she said. And even after the male judges voted to keep Darrell around, DioGuardi kept the snide remarks coming: "Leave your number in the back room. Bring your pole tomorrow." Cowell stood up for the contestant, telling her, "I don't think you've had particularly fair criticism from these girls."
Ultimately, though, the bad attitude caught up with Darrell. She was eliminated Wednesday (Feb. 4) on Group Night after a very poor performance. She claimed she hadn't helped her group rehearse because she was really tired. Seriously? I'll bet Carrie Underwood got tired from time to time, too, but you never saw her boo-hooing about it on national television.

Darrell seems to have made the right choice: her singing isn’t very good, and so the best way to bring attention to herself was the bikini stunt. It probably kept her on the show longer than she otherwise would have been on.
And bloggers are giving her attention for her bikini and her bad attitude. I’d suggest that Darrell is doing everything right.

bikini girl is so annoying..can’t sing either..we all knew she wouldn’t last. they always have to put in the weirdo’s to fill up the empty minutes anyway..now we all have to wait when things start getting serious..

For the last time the name of the song she sang was “Vision of Love,” not “Treated Me Kind.” I used to like Simon because he was the only judge who would tell it like it is. But when he defended her, it was so clear what his motivations were. Randy, too. That show is just stupid now.

I agree, Katrina sounded terrible singing Breathe. She didn’t need to out-sing Faith, she just needed to sing the song well. When I saw Katrina’s first audition I thought oh no here comes some bad singing since she felt the need to wear a bikini. Simon has seen better. Good model, bad singer. Katrina also messed up when she backtalked the judges.
One of the worst and funniest auditions ever was last season when Ashley Lawing wore a sexy dress, brought a cute puppy to the judges, flirted with Simon and tried to sing Kellie’s Red High Heels. Type “Ashley Lawing” in youtube. None of her looks or props made up for her bad singing and all 3 judges said no.
Of course all 3 judges said yes when Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler auditioned since they nailed big Bonnie Raitt and Martina McBride songs. They are the best country singers ever on Idol. They look good but they didn’t need to show up in bikinis or make excuses about being tired, because they can sing. Great singers are rare so chances are American Idol will never find another Carrie or Kellie even though thousands of hopefuls show up to audition each year. Idol has been boring since their seasons ended and they have brought us a lot of great country music.

I don’t watch Idol, so I don’t know if bikini girl outsang Faith on her own song. But I think bikini girl is no Faith Hill when it comes to having a bad attitude, either. I’m sick of Faith acting like she really cares about Katrina victims and blaming the government for not doing enough, when she couldn’t be bothered to make up a rained-out outdoor show. She got paid for never taking the stage, and wouldn’t consider coming back to make it up, even when offered more money. Yet somehow she thinks she’s credible when she talks about what happened in New Orleans. I’m ready for her to disappear.

Katrina Darrell is awesome. She is an entertainer all the way!! She can sing, she can act, and she is real!! The other contestants are kiss asses and they look rediculous! Alexis is good though but Katrina should be right there next to her!!!

Katrina Darrell should be ashamed of herself. What the hell is she trying to do. I guess her IQ is about as high as her morals. Women have worked hard to gain respect in the music industry and then some tramp with low self esteem and no self respect walks in almost naked and trys to sell herself to get on a show. I found her very offensive, vulgar and repulsive the way she was kissing Ryan (a man she doesn’t even know)….what a pig. I was disgusted that she even made it through the first round and so glad she was voted out. A.I. is suppose to be a serch for vocal talent not prostitutes.

Every year I anxiously wait for the Country music awards so that I can hear Faith Hill sing and almost every year I am disappointed …she is rarely there…what a loss for the show. FAITH…IF YOU READ ANY OF THESE….WE NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU MORE.
