Keith Urban, Nicole Kidman Kick Back at Station Inn

Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 5:57 pm  |  By: Whitney Self

Keith Urban and Nicole KidmanSometimes I sit and wonder what some of my favorite people are doing at a particular moment in time. Like, what is Van Morrison doing this afternoon for lunch? Or how about Kate Winslet? Is Cher busy? How about Dolly Parton? I know they're people just like you and me, but it's fun for me to think of them outside their normal "celebrity." Like, where do Keith Urban and his beautiful wife Nicole Kidman go on some casual Tuesday evening? Oh, wait, I know this one.

Last night (Feb. 3), I finally got to see my first Doyle & Debbie show at the Station Inn. A group of friends and I had the most enjoyable evening, laughing hysterically at the couple's parody of country music. If you've never seen the show, this is most certainly a must-see. Anyway, while we were sitting and chatting prior to the show, enjoying a basket of popcorn, I noticed Nicole Kidman walk in and take a seat. Behind her, Keith Urban. Now please note -- the Station Inn is nothing fancy. It's a bar with fold-out card tables and chairs, a small stage for entertainment and frozen pizza and beer for refreshments. It's nothing elaborate or swanky, but nonetheless, forever charming.

As Keith and Nicole walked past me at one point in the night, though I'm used to seeing them onstage, onscreen or on the cover of a magazine, it wasn't even strange. I had this warm feeling inside. No one bothered them. No one asked for their autograph. No one stopped for a picture. This place was so cozy, so welcoming, so Nashville. Everyone respected the fact that though they were "Keith and Nicole," they were just like us -- enjoying their Tuesday evening in Nashville.

Awe, Nashville. What a great city and people there are so very friendly too. I don’t think I could have sat there without going and asking them for an autograph. But, on the other hand, I don’t live in Nashville and I am not exposed to celebrities in my town. Now, this must have just been so…awe…

I live in L.A. and have seen famous people hanging out in clubs without being bothered. They just avoid the obvious paparazzi hangouts if they want a quiet night out.

Station Inn is a wonderful place to go and hear real country music in a fun rustic hangout. It is so great that Nicole and Keith enjoy so many things Nashville offers I love them both and so happy they love my Tennessee.

We’ve had well known artists out and about in our city and on our univ. campus…no one bothers them. It’s a Southern Thang….we’re more laidback and know that artists are just people wanting to have the same good time non-artists have.

There are celebrities out and about in NYC all the time. I’ve seen a few over the years. The trick is I suppose not to go where the cameras and fans go.

Thats so cool that they had their time together out ,with no interuptions, although If I would have been there I would have had to ask for an autograpgh & a pic, that is when they were getting ready to leave. I am sure they wouldn’t have minded too much. :)

This definitely makes me want to visit the Station Inn on my next trip to Nashville. Great description, Whitney. It’s also nice to hear about a town that leaves their celebrities alone, as they should. I’m sure that’s why so many enjoy living there!

Aussie, why did you have to bring that kind of thing up? This was a nice post and you had to ruin it! Put your picture up here and lets critique it then see how it feels! Bet we could find something wierd about you too!

Yea, Gail, I agree. I was just scanning the posts and thinking that at last there’s a place where people can swallow their negative critisism…and then…
Oh well, love the article, love that Keith and Nic can be bother-free, and love them both for their limelight evasion
in their personal lives. Nasville sounds like the place I’d like to live.

The pizza is NOT frozen. It’s actually pretty good! hehe
AND they have some of the coldest beer in town. I love that little dive! Great Bluegrass and Country Music! If you’re in town during the week go down there for the house acts, Doyle and Debbie on Tuesday evening for comedy, Mashville Brigade on Tuesday night (an All-star Nashville house band) for Bluegrass, and the Time Jumpers on Monday night for real honest-to-God Country AND Western Music.
It’s pretty sad that there’s now an Urban Outfitters and a ridiculous looking half empty condo building right across the street now. That place is legendary and I hope it’s there forever.
