Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus: Together for "Fifteen"

Posted: February 3rd, 2009 at 6:12 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Taylor SwiftYou may not be able to believe everything you read these days. But Ryan Seacrest? He wouldn't lie to us. And according to Rolling Stone, his Twitter feed says Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus are joining forces to sing Swift's coming-of-age tune "Fifteen" on Sunday night's (Feb. 8) Grammy Awards. I can't think of anyone better to tell the story of how it feels to be 15, a high school freshman and kissing a boy for the first time. Because these two are closer to 15 than any other girl singers out there. The song is already so immensely likeable, but with those two belting it out, it's bound to be that much more honest and believable and bittersweet.

Wrong again Alison. There are many singers and Singer/Songwriters out there who are around the age of 15. Please do some research for a change. You are really looking foolish.

There’a a 16 year old mandolin player who was up for the mandolin player of the year at the IBMA’s this year. She wrote songs for her album, and co-produced it. She’s been playing professionally since she was about 8. She also played Billy Graham’s little sister in the movie “Billy”. Any idea who she may be, Alison?

I wish some people would do research before doing a story like this! Taylor and Miley arent the only singer/songwriters around 15!!

You ever hear of a band called Jypsi? Probably not.Keep forgetting you’re from Chicago and think Taylor Swift and Miley Cryus are country music singers.

  • Elise says:

    Posted: February 3rd, 2009 at 7:24 pm

“guess” Taylor and Miley may not be the only singer/songwriters who are around 15, but they sure are the only two who are successful enough to get asked to do a Grammy duet!

  • Tay_Swift_Fan says:

    Posted: February 3rd, 2009 at 7:24 pm

I can’t wait for this performance. Taylor being such an awesome role model and who’s already gone through that akward “Fifteen” stage (and wrote about it) can really reach so many young girls and the older generation too by bringing back the memories of being “Fifteen” when love was so sweet and innocent again. They couldn’t have picked a better song with a better message to sing. What an awesome song to perform at the Grammys.

  • BPAP says:

    Posted: February 3rd, 2009 at 7:37 pm

I agree with Elise. Leave Allison alone, she is right in that they are the only two closest to 15 who are successful enough to do a duet at the Grammys. Plus, don’t forget 15 is Swift’s song, so I’m not sure what you’re all arguing about…what sense would seeing another 15-year-old singer perform it make?

  • Kelli says:

Awesome article! Love the articles about Taylor! :) Keep up the great work Alison!

  • RedMaZ says:

    Posted: February 3rd, 2009 at 7:40 pm

Successful enough to do a duet, but not talented enough for a nomination. The Grammy’s are using them for their name recognition only. I see nothing wrong with that. Plus it’ll be something else to laugh at. The point is, this blogger is generalizing again, to the point of being ridiculous.

Do artists not nominated usually perform or are the grammys selling out to tween ratings like every other show. I thought grammys were all about talent instead of who is most successful. I guess not. Do they want adults to watch? Most of the performances are bad with poppers, rappers and unknowns who can’t sing. If we’re lucky they will show one good real country performance. Miley is not country and she was annoying on the country awards. In a few years she will probably say “I’m making a country album to return to my roots and bring teens to the country genre! Eeeeek!”

  • notso swift says:

    Posted: February 3rd, 2009 at 8:46 pm

The Grammys know how “popular” Taylor and Miley are, so they asked them to sing live to show American WHY THEY WEREN’T NOMINATED. Taylor can’t sing live to save her sweet lil ole heart.

  • Dustin says:

    Posted: February 3rd, 2009 at 9:21 pm

Are you for real? Those 2 CANNOT sing live - they are electronically fized for thier albums! Just listen - I love how one reviewer that I read about the CMAs regarding Swifts performance “when Taylor Swift started her forformance all you could here were many off-tune girls screaming… oh wait, no that was Taylor singing!” Seriously the girl can wrtie songs, but she can’t sing them. It is only a matter of time when people finally understand she cannot sing live performances - which should matter. This is going to be a nightmare.

  • Andie says:

    Posted: February 3rd, 2009 at 9:32 pm

its gonna be a funny performanve they can not sing live and taylor and miley together wha a joke!!the grammys just lost a lot of respet for that trisha yearwood should be performing

  • Twangtown7 says:

Taylor teaming up with Miley? Ugh. Any respect I had for her just went down the crapper. Take your act to MTv Taylor…

  • Kate says:

    Posted: February 3rd, 2009 at 9:52 pm

    Wait…being 19 is close to 15? now that’s a stretch..Miley is close to 15, but Taylor’s a close neighbor of 20 not 15.

Taylor and Miley are two very commercially successful artists…neither one can sing and both are equally abnoxious…and the kids just love love love them. The fact that the one can’t sing means diddly to them…

There seems to be a Taylor media blitz right now…so brace yourselves cause she’s everywhere.

  • guess! says:

    Posted: February 3rd, 2009 at 9:57 pm

This just proves my point! Taylor will do anything and everything just to get publicity! Thats just wrong!!!!

  • 007 says:

    Posted: February 3rd, 2009 at 10:16 pm

I think this is yet another move on Taylor’s label, to push her next single, hense White Horse at the AMA’s. What has become of the Grammys did it get a hostile takeover from Disney. They are not even nominated and do not deserve to be there whats so ever. It is rather disappointing the Grammys are supposed to be the most prestigious awards.

  • pamela says:

    Posted: February 3rd, 2009 at 10:47 pm

I have been waiting for the call to ask me to sing at the Grammys. Apparently, the qualifications are:
Are you cute? And I am.
Can you make off key screaming sounds? Yep, got that one covered, too.
Can you shake your long hair and hold your hand/arm out straight like it means something? Been practicing those too!
Can you look shocked every time you win an award? Having a hard time , but probably won’t win an award right away, anyhow.
Sitting by the phone…I know they will call…

  • bkb says:

    Posted: February 3rd, 2009 at 11:32 pm

love your comments pamela, spot on. swift and cyrus together, what a living nightmare this will be, of course they will shake their hair and move around like they are spastic,it’s a shame they can’t sing, gives the grammy’s a bad name.

  • Sammi says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 4:10 am

I heard Taylor sing really well before. She just sucked really bad at the 2008 CMA’s. She was really awesome in concert. I love the song “Fifteen”. I really wish though that she was singing it by herself. I agree that Miley has a bad voice. But Taylor is still ok.

  • casey says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 8:51 am

Swift has always said that the money she makes would be put back into her career, not wasted on luxury items. We all know what that means. Wonder how much she paid for this grammy gig?

  • vp says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 9:09 am

You know I wouldn’t call myself a TS fan but she doesn’t bug me all that much, but what does is the grammys pulling this stunt. Neither of them are nominated and have not place being there.

I could see if they were participating in a tribute or something, but this is just a ratings performance, and to promote TS coming soon release. I don’t even know when they will hand out any awards, there are so many performers. Those performers are relevant to the grammys not like these two.

I think if you couldn’t manage to snag a nom than you shouldn’t be performing, and that is how it has been in the past. This is very disappointing coming from the Grammys which is supposed to be the most respected of awards shows.

  • Rita says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 10:00 am

I agree with VP, if your not nominated don’t perform. There are lots of nominations for performers who don’t get to sing and thats just wrong to pull in two non talented singers because of the tween rage right now.

  • solongsowrong says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 10:07 am

When they only televise about ten of the over one hundred awards given, that leaves plenty of time for that which doesn’t belong. Seeing as how most Pop fans probably don’t even both to look who wins the other 90% of the awards, the Grammy’s, along with any other award show that is worried about ratings and sponsor support, are treading on very thin ice. They will do whatever it takes to keep an audience, even if it means bringing in non-nominated acts.

Which means the integrity of at least the televised portion is swaying, and they are losing the respect of those who are interested in more than a few over promoted Pop acts.

Anyone here realize that former Mainstream Country acts like Patty Loveless, Randy Travis, Ricky Skaggs, Kathy Mattea, Rodney Crowell, and Emmylou Harris, are all still making beautiful music, and are all up for Grammy’s this year?

  • Adam says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 10:40 am

haha can anyone say TRAINWRECK. Those two can’t sing a note in tune… oh gosh this should be interesting. This is the grammys for crying out loud. They are going to look like fools out there!

  • page47 says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 11:24 am

I havent had any respect for the Grammys since Milli Vanilli won their “award”.Taylor and Miley are just examples of how far from real music the Grammys are.

  • Kim says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 12:21 pm

    Americana music awards anyone?
I feel bad for Trisha Yearwood. she has 3 nominations and she has to take a back seat to her label mate, Taylor. If Taylor were preforming in addition to Trisha, it would be ok. But passing over a great singer for a pop tart…uhg.

  • bkb says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 2:05 pm

trisha is such a wonderful singer and to by passed by swift is a shame.the grammy’s should be ashamed. just goes to show how politics is showing up.

  • cj says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 2:13 pm

It is so sad that these girls that can’t sing take the place of wonderful voices like Trisha, faith, Martina, and so many more that have payed there dues and had to work there way up. These girls bought there way up. Kids do not last long on one artist. They will be for someone else as soon as someone new comes along.

  • trufanofcountry says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 2:23 pm

I agree with notso, it’s only to prove to America WHY they weren’t nominated, since their popularity seems to be so darn important. Popularity and talent are two different things, and the Grammy’s are out to prove that by allowing this travesty.

  • Always Right says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 2:29 pm

HAHA I knew it! I saw the title of this blog on the front page of cmt.com and KNEW the name “Alison Bonaguro” would be the name that popped up when I clicked on the link. The song “Fifteen” is “already so immensely likeable?!” Really Alison? By whom? You and legions of 15 year olds?!? The only people who should be bloggers on this site are Chet Flippo, Craig Shelburne, and Whitney Self. At least these people know about country music pre-1989.

  • Gail says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 2:30 pm

It is pretty sad this day and time when ratings are far more important than listening to really good country music from real singers instead of the “bubblegum” brigade. Actually this decade should be labelled, The Day that the Music Died, when two teeny boppers that cannot sing are taking over the charts, award shows, etc! Is nothing sacred anymore??? If these two are the best it gets then I feel sorry for future generations, but then again, I guess they won’t know what real talent they missed!

  • Always Right says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 2:33 pm

I think that in history, country music from 1996 to the present should be marked with an asterisk.

  • K says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 4:22 pm

Neither Miley nor Taylor are good singers, they cater to teens and pre-teens and they are both incredibly popular.

Taylor was the biggest selling artist of 2008; Miley one of the most-watched shows and franchises ever with Hannah Montana.

Popularity= a rating’s jump for the Grammy’s. Everything in the industry is about money or ratings, anyway. Both these girls bring those assests to the industry.

In their eyes, what else matters?

  • K says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 4:26 pm

And Taylor nor Miley have yet to do anything credible that actually involves music. Ya they both sell lots of albums and attract the teens. Does that mean they deserve to be on the most prestigious awards shows on TV? And neither of them are nominated. How does that work?

  • RedMaZ says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 4:52 pm

    Wow…you’re really smart.(sfip)

solongsowrong, the young lady you speak of is Sierra Hull. A truly talented teen. You have to be talented if you’re recognized in Bluegrass Music. I have a feeling the author of this blog has no idea what the IBMA is.

I love taylor swift bt her teaming up with miley is not a good idea. Miley is going to kill the song. Its going to be horrible! i wish taylor would just sing it by herself!!!!

  • Holly says:

    Posted: February 4th, 2009 at 6:59 pm

So why wasn’t James Otto lined up to sing at the Grammys? Does singing the #1 song of the year not mean all that much when you are pretty much a newer person on the radio still? Everyone knows who Miley and Taylor are anyways. Why not set some newer blood on the front burner every now and then? I love James so much!!! (big smile)

God bless you and the beautiful sweet hearted teddy bear always!!!

    Holly in East Tennessee

P.S. James is in there for two Grammy awards anyways. I don’t recall seeing Taylor and Miley in there for any of them.

it is not because taylor isnt talented that she was not nominated her album came out to late. she would have been nom if it would have been out in time!!!!i think this duet will be the highlight of the grammys at one of really good performances!

  • trufanofcountry says:

    Posted: February 5th, 2009 at 1:51 pm

signs, she had several singles eligible. That’s an old excuse. She was not nominated for vocal performance because she has no vocal ability. And the duet will be the top joke of the grammy reviews…just wait and see.

But none the less I am looking forward to the performance!
